The food was perfect, very good service, we will definitely visit again!!
First, the food was very good. Some of the Middle Eastern dishes were made differently than the usual, and we all (8 of us) were very pleased with the flavors, the presentation, ..., everything about the food. A bit pretentious to bring out the food in covered plates, but, well, okay. A bit surprising when the waiter lifted the cover on my plate of fish for me to find two small pieces of fish "swimming" in a delicious broth. I enjoyed it all, and, not one to try to bust my gut, was quite satisfied with the portions. But the prices for all this were a bit out of line with my expectations. So, if you're going to have a better dining experience if the prices are higher, increasing your respect in some way for the place, go right ahead.. But I don't think I'll be returning. Also, I'd prefer a place where the acoustics are not meant to make it as loud as possible, as so many of the newer places are. Nice for them that it seems to sell more drinks, but I couldn't talk to most of my party, nevermind be able to hear the wait staff try to explain anything from more than 3 feet away. Always a relief to get out to the quiet streets of New York after dining in a place like that.
Food was excellent, server made some great suggestions. Place was bussing.
Everything was delicious! Service was great!
Good for brunch on sunday
choose the AP over the Rolex. The women there actually know the value
Service was poor.
Great service, food and ambience!
While the food was above average, it was not worth the above average price. The shakshuka was small, the eggs were all overcooked and it did NOT come with pita bread. Service was slow despite there being lots of staff spread across the restaurant. There are better middle eastern and mediterranean eateries in the city with prices that reflect the quality of the food, service, and experience. Yogurt and granola was very good, I'll give them that.
the location is really great, we enjoyed the food and the few downside were it was really crowded at the entrance/reception area when you first walked in; also each table is a bit too close with one another. Overall it was an exciting place to visit, and i will recommend this place.
My fav restaurant in NYC, for many years , great music , food is fantastic!
Excellent food; a bit loud, as usual
Good food, decent service, but way too loud for basic conversation.
Nice variety of food, and nice wine selection. Quite loud room, so conversation can be a challenge but fun ambiance. Waiters were all very nice.
The food was great and the service excellent
Made a 3:45 reservation for 3 guests and was not told that kitchen closed at 4 and orders had to be placed by 3:50. Ordered mimosas and was charged the “bottomless brunch” price. We received no refills. We were rushed through our meal. Poor communication, poor customer service. Extremely disappointed.
I used to love Barbounia. However, our last visit was a complete letdown. Not because of the food but because of how the staff reacted to our appetizers "only" order. We did not want any mains BUT ordered TWO bottles of red wine, two 6-item-mezzes, a $20 dessert, an additional dessert and cappuccino. The bill ended up to be well over $300. Still, we left with an uneasy feeling of being bullied for no reason. Won't be back. Sorry!
A celebration dinner, needed a nice wine and the waiter definitely pointed us in the right direction and helped us pick a spectacular wine that was not $400. Unbelievably loud. And sit on top of the next table if you are on the side and not at a middle of the room table. The portions of food are enough that you can share and still feel like you had a chance to truly enjoy the absolutely delicious food. Could be the best Greek salad in the city. Just wonderful. Eggplant dip was delightful and the bread is a good accompaniment. We asked to try a cracker that comes with the cheese platter, and a waiter said it's good to know the right people as she dropped some off for us. The we were charged for the crackers. The Branzino is filleted properly, no bones, and again, enough to share. My friend already made another reservation. Yums.
Amazing! Great food place and service! Would highly recommend and the bread is UNREAL.
Food is very creative. The flat bread is fabulous but we order the flat bread of the day which the waiter told us it came with sausage but disappointingly it came plane which was very good so no big loss.
Atmosphere was lovely. A little noisy but not terrible. The service was extremely slow. Wants to order appetizers and then order dinner and they said we had to order it all at once. The service was very slow. Food came quickly once we ordered but they were slow to fill waters and asking us if we needed anything. Drinks were very expensive.
Exceptional experience that transports patrons without air travel because of the wonderful cuisine, service and ambiance. It was a fun evening for us who were there for a birthday celebration. The noise level is quite high so do not expect a quiet dinner unless it happens to be relatively empty that evening—- not likely. Barbounia should never be empty!! It is just too good!!
I was with a party of 5, and when we were seated, we were put right up next to two other tables in an otherwise empty dining room. Music was way too loud. The size of our table was inadequate to serve the food, much less the drinks and plating. The service was rushed and overly attentive -- servers were constantly interrupting us to pour water in between us and ask us if we were ready to order our food. Given that we couldn't even talk to one another at the table unless we were screaming, we tried to focus on the food. Unfortunately, it was definitely hit or miss. The shrimp appetizer's seasoning was unappealing and left untouched. The flatbread with tomato and cheese was a hit, but for $24? C'mon, that pricing is ridiculous, especially in NYC, that has great pizza everywhere for much less. I will actively tell people to NOT go to this restaurant.
They need friendlier staff !
Consistently great food quality, service and atmosphere. In a city with so many options, you won't go wrong with this one!
Not the place for a first date.
Great Mediterranean brunch. Good bottomless mimosas service, fun vibe with lots of energy.
Great lively restaurant serving good Mediterranean cuisine with zest. Good cocktails and attentive service. Great place for a boisterous dinner with friends and family.
Wait staff was excellent, food was even better! Must get the mezze trio (spicy feta, hummus & green tahini)! The dessert was also delicious
Still one of the most fun a sexy restaurants in the city!
The food was fabulous and so was the service. Yes, the prices are on the expensive side but for a special celebration or event, the atmosphere and the food created a great experience. Can't say it is on my regular night out list, but surely for special guests or celebration.
Very good food and interesting wine list. Cocktails are hit and miss depending on the bartender. Note: it's quite lively and loud even on a Wednesday evening.
Amazing food and desserts!
This was our third time eating at Barbounia, and we had always enjoyed the food and ambience. This Sunday Brunch experience was painfully loud and disturbing. We won’t be back.
We had reservations and were taken to our table when we arrived, but then had to wait standing by the table for a couple of awkward minutes because the manager was standing by our table trying to calm down an angry customer at the next table. The tables were so crowded together that we couldn’t sit down until he left. Once we settled in and got the menus, we noticed how loud the music was. It was a busy Sunday brunch crowd and they were all having to yell across the table to be heard above the music. When the waiter came to take our orders, he had trouble hearing what we were saying , so we had to point to the menu!
It was extremely difficult for the four of us to have any conversation at all at our small table. Then unbelievably, they cranked up the music to the max with Stevie Wonder’s “Happy Birthday” as the wait staff surrounded a table. We literally had to put our hands over our ears, it was so painful. They then brought our appetizers . . . Market vegetables, bread, hummus, green tahini, eggplant . . . All delicious. As we were finishing the appetizers and trying to have a yelled conversation, they cranked up the music Again with the “Happy Birthday” song! We sat there incredulously with our hands over our ears, again. Thankfully they brought our food within the next ten minutes, and we decided to eat quickly and leave. I was disappointed that my mushroom omelet was very bland and had very few herbs that I could see or taste. As we were eating our main course, they cranked up the music to the max a THIRD time, playing “Happy Birthday.” The ambience was like a loud TGIFridays! We left as quickly as possible, went around the corner to the Old Town Bar, and had a beer and very enjoyable conversation.
Awesome place for a boozy brunch! Food is delicious, large portions, and champagne cocktails are always flowing if you choose the unlimited drink option!
We have loved this restaurant from the start, several years ago. Every dish is beautiful and delicious. Expert and daring preparations from the kitchen make your meal outstanding. The grilled octopus is succulent and wonderful. The tuna crudo is sublime. The wild mushroom and truffle flatbread excellent as are the hummus, lava what and tahini. We all loved every bite. Great bar and even excellent desserts if you have room. We cannot wait to return. Our servers were all excellent and really cared for our table. Bravo to all at Barbounia.
As always the food and ambiance was great. We ended up sitting at the bar because it took a little too long to get a table ready, but they allowed us to start our bottomless while we waited. Once we decided to stay at the bar, the bartender was very attentive. Overall, excellent brunch!
amazing decor, food and service. The spicy feta and smoked eggplant were so delicious!
My fav restaurant in the city. Great food !
Great place. Will be back soon
This place never disappoints. The food is delicious and we always over order!! It’s loud. Service is great. The feta is divine and so is the lamb..... the fresh warm bread is delicious! We love it here. Kid friendly if your kid enjoys yummy flavorful food :)
