The Restaurant Week experience was good. The place has a perfect ambiance and fine menu. The first course, a set of appetizers, was wonderful, very tasty. The entree lacked as the meat was dried out and the tahini had color without taste. I'd recommend Barbounia as a place to have a very nice drink, listen to appropriate music, and perhaps get a bite.
Amazing birthday dinner- fantastic service!
I have wanted to eat at Barbounia for a very long time. I finally had an opportunity to go for lunch during Restaurant Week. I could kick myself for waiting so long! The Israeli salad and mezze were amazing; hummus, spicy feta and eggplant. Bread baked with Mediterranean spices that was a perfect partner to the mezze. For our mains, we had salmon and kofte kebab. Absolutely delicious. I WILL RETURN!
Food and ambiance was incredible, waitress was rude and short with us
This restaurant is a jewel. The salmon was very moist and tender as was the lamb.
This visit was made during Restaurant Week when it is good to try new places and foods. My guest was so very impressed with the meal, and asked if I had eaten at Barbounia before. I had not, however, it is definitely a place worth dining at again.
Love this place. Love the staff! Literally everyone is so kind. I am from out of town, and this is where I always go when traveling to the city.
Great flavors and food knowledgeable server who gladly answered all of our questions.
Absolutely terrific for drinks and whatever kind of dinner you are in the mood for.
Delicious bottles of cold rose served with hot and cold small plates of beautifully served delicious dishes. Perfect for vegetarians and /or omnivores. (Need is to request refills for bread given the volume of dishes ordered) Crowded/busy but never rushed. Very nice wait staff.
Octopus was under cooked or not good and got horrible stomach ach immediately after i left
Excellent. Food, service, atmosphere admirable. Somewhat noisy.
I went with a group of 4 people, our reservation was for 7:45pm; we were seated at 8:20pm. Very unhappy with the way the delay & wait was handle, probably not going back which is unfortunate as I have eaten there several times.
I would recommend the restaurant but with the caveat about my experience.
Food was great. Service excellent.
Met there for business lunch during Restaurant week. Food was delicious and different, service good, ambiance very nice
Really nice restaurant with yummy food would recommend this place to friends visiting nyc
We ordered an appetizer that came after the main course.
My partner and I came here for a romantic dinner and it was so beautiful. I scheduled a reservation and came a bit early so we were attended to in perfect timing. We arrived around 8:30 and it was packed and loud, but that was perfectly fine because we were silently staring at each other enjoy how absolutely creative and AMAZING the food was. Granted it was our first time, but trust that anything on their menu could blow your mind. After a comfortable and indulgent meal we were impressed to find that we were in and out within 45 minutes. Service was very attentive, sweet, and enjoyable. There is every reason in the world to treat yourself to desert and gorgeous scenery. Thanks for a beautiful night!
Food was solid plus good vibe
Food was flavorful and the service was phenomenal.
The place itself and food was great. Not my first time. Server was great also. However the overall service was extremely slow. We spent over 3 hrs for entire dinner for 2 with only one entree for both. Another 30 minutes waited post our reservation time for a table. If that would be improved would deserve 4-5 stars.
Really great food, fun atmosphere and great service
The prices are a bit high, but IMO worth it.
The Short Rib especially was amazing as well as the desserts
Beautiful restaurant, great service and delicious food. Perfect for date night! A bit pricey but worth it for a special night out!
Wonderful and attentive! They were helpful with vegetarian options for me and even prepared a vegetarian entree off menu for me. Also great help with wine options..Will definitely go again.
We had brunch here on a Saturday. Our reservation was for noon and they seated us when 5 of the 6 people were there. The restaurant gets crowded and very noisy as the 1 PM hour approaches. Outdoor seating is available, but it was too hot. This is not a bottomless drink brunch unless you are drinking mimosas and at $22 for each person, skip the cheap champagne and order a good drink. The food is very good. Omelettes and eggs Benedict were popular with our group. We all wanted to try the Shakshouka, but it was so hot outside no one had the stomach for it. The potatoes that accompany the omelettes are delicious and flew off the plates of those who didn't eat them fast enough. I appreciate the green salad that came with the omelettes. I would try the restaurant again for dinner, but I have enjoyed far better brunches in the city. Service was ok. I appreciate that we were not rushed even though the restaurant was busy.
I asked for bread since this is middle eastern food, bread is usually served. When the bill come I was charged for the bread and no where on the restaurant week menu did it say there was a charge for bread .
I brought to the attention of the hostess who called the manager over and at that point I thought they would have charged back my card for the bread and they did not. Poor customer service and not a good way to get new patrons to their restaurant.
Second time I’ve been to this restaurant. The first time was okay; good enough to come back a few years later. Now they have a different chef and the feel of the restaurant changed a bit. Now it’s expensive for mediocre food and smaller portions. There are better Greek options in this City.
Yes, it was restaurant week & yes it was crazy loud. But the food was still excellent with good services. We opted for 5 small plates (spicy feta, crispy cauliflower, artichokes, tuna & dessert). And a shout out to the bartenders who were on their toes & made a special spritz for me. A great evening.
While the food was great, and selections varied, I would not recommend Barbounia for two reasons:
the noise level, and the sense of being rushed. The restaurant runs like an efficiency machine, with many waiters and helpers, an attitude of being as helpful as possible, but the experience felt like being within a noisy, bustling factory. After the main course (we tried the Restaurant Week menu) I wanted to wait before ordering dessert, and tho we mentioned please wait to order - 2 desserts arrived in 10 minutes. When I registered my distress that this wasn't what I wanted, I was asked what would I want? I said, ice cream, the ice cream was delivered (no extra charge) and that was that.
If you want a quick, tasty, noisy meal, this is the place.
A real deal during Restaurant week. I know why it’s been rated one of the top 20 happy hour bars. It’s even better when you have dinner!
The restaurant was great but needed more A/C it was too hot
We have dined at this restaurant a number of times over the years - it has always been a favorite of ours. We ordered a number of appetizers and appetizer specials and they were all very good.
My only reservation about the experience had nothing to do with the service nor for that matter the restaurant, but with the loud, somewhat colorful language being used by the 3 young men at the table next to us. The language, while colorful, wasn't the issue but the volume with which it was being projected. Everyone likes to have a good time - but I don't need to hear every syllable of someone else's conversation. There's no way the restaurant can deal with this - it's just the way it is.
Birthday party really nice as uyal
Best brunch around!
VERY LOOOOOOOUD !!!!Cant carry conversation. Likely noise bouncing off walls. Very crowde, best for younger professional crowd that want to see and be seen. Yes, it is costly.....$22 per martini and all other choices on menu similar. No bargains here.
Good side, good and well prepared food.
Love the food, excellent and attentive service.
really always high scores in every regard...and that bread/so good!
Family getting together.
No A/C made it very hot in the restaurant
The food is excellent. The service is excellent and prompt. Nice atmosphere. Great location.
Pride Brunch with Kids. Are we crazy? The team helped to get us seated and work with our family with six people. No problem. Drinks were awesome. And everyone was nice. Missed the sharing plate with the pancakes for the kids but it happens.
