Went there this weekend. It was a pre theater dinner. They got us out quickly, Food was ok. Service was ok. Restaurant is family owned very traditional decor. Walking distance to theater which was convenient.
This is a lovely restaurant, one that has pleased my family for three generations. It is elegant, friendly, and provides excellent food and wonderful service. In nice weather the garden is lovely.
Phenomenal !!! One of the oldest Italian restaurants with charm
Second to none. Amazing food. Try the veal and the sampler appetizer. The scallops are to die for.
Great food, good drinks, what’s not to like
The food, ambiance, and service were excellent, but drastically overpriced. I would rather go to Trattoria Trecolori twice for the same money, for twice the enjoyment.
Food was not nearly as good as in the past.
My grandparents used to go to Barbetta in the 1940s!!! I’ve been eating here my whole life. This is old style New York. Waiters in jackets, no piped in music, no bling decor, a phone booth. Great food, good wine list, great atmosphere! There are dishes on the menu from 1906 when they opened. A wonderful dining experience. Great for a festive evening or after theater.
Food was ok...
As always, good food and great service. A Broadway staple.
The pre-fix menu is quite extensive. Many options from appetizers to dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious! The service is outstanding!
The online information did not indicate they only had a price fix menu
Choices were poor
Ive tried both the pretheater menu and the regular mrnu. Go with the regular menu. Better wuality and preoaration
Impeccable service. Lovely, quier decor, charmingly retro. A bit pricey, especially pasta dishes.
We live in Europe and have been to Italy at least once a year for the last 8-10 years, mostly in Piedmont. Although the ambiance at Barbetta is fine, and the service is superb, the food is extremely bland and traditional dishes such as the Antipasti Sampler are like 25% Italian and 75% generic American. They claim that they use very little salt, and I can confirm that they neither use salt nor spices to any discernible level.
What a fabulous historical restaurant! Fabulous ambience, menu, service, location, and food! The salmon was the best I've had in a long time. Plus I could carry on a conversation without yelling!
My highest rating!
Food came out cold and was extremely bland. Ambiance was nice, but overall a very poor value for the price. I came to New York from Louisiana looking for good food. I’m still looking...
A wonderful place before the theatre - while it was 20 degrees outside the warmth inside began with the greeting followed by the seating and service.
And they remembered that it was our friend’s birthday with a nice complimentary Prosecco
Love the history
Favorite place for pre-theater dining, can enjoy and be out in an hour. Delicious cuisine, long list of wines by glass including Amarone. Over 100 years of generally excellent food and service - only 1 waiter was less than warm and welcoming. Beautiful dining downstairs, and cozy small rooms upstairs; also lovely outdoor patio for warm weather. A piece of New York, and theater, history -- shouldn't be missed.
Very good for per theater dinner with a group of people
Sad waste of a beautiful classic location. A mix of patrons from a suited Senator to loud kids in hoodies! Inattentive service. Mediocre food. What a disappointment.
Our meal was delicious and we were only a four minute walk to see Hamilton! Perfect evening!
We enjoyed the pre-theater dinner menu before attending a music venue. The old world atmosphere is nice and dinner is relaxing; the food and service exceptional. I read about Barbetta Restaurant in the N.Y. Times and did not want to miss the opportunity to dine here, especially since we were visiting from out of town.
Great! Gourmet 5-star
Was disappointed to find that only a four course prix fixe menu was available. The website showed Al a Carte and many more choices. After persistent inquiry the waiter asked us what we wanted. I asked for the scallops and my husband pasta both available on the main menu. We were told that the kitchen could prepare them. Strange after the first request was told not available. They were both very good. But the whole experience was off putting. Moral is if you don’t want the prix fixe be persistent.
WORST REST. EVER, SERVICE BAD, FOOD BAD, EVERYTHING BAD BAD!!!!!!!!!!!
Meal was disappointing in that they were very unclear on how the menu worked and could only order from a prefixed menu. We chose the restaurant from the main menu with a large selection, but they would not let us order from that. Overpriced for what we got. We would have liked to order from the main menu but waiter gave us no option. The advertising for this restaurant should have told the customers that you would only be able to order from the pre fixed menu which very very limited and disappointing. The meal was very overpriced and I would not recommend this restaurant. After paying more than twice what we expected we left feeling hungry and unsatisfied. Open table should clearly state that you would only be able to order from the prefixed menu as Open Table showed the full menu on the website thus the reason we selected this restaurant. We are very disappointed in the experience we had at this restaurant and how Open Table incorrectly advertised this restaurant.
Fixe price could not order from regular menu
My sword fish was not good waiter noticed I pit it aside and offered my another 3ntree
I accepted a small portion of entree
It was a really good save
I must say initially two women do not receive the same service andd greeting as a group with a man
We must use different currency
Under he watchful eye of Laura Maioglio Barbetta never fails to impress. The food, service, and ambiance are second to none. The wine list is extraordinary with many unknown gems on their "long" list. You can't miss here!
Excellent food and service; terrific wine expert, wonderful ambience, quiet and elegant. A first class place.
A great dinner in nyc
Relaxed after matinee dinner. Food always great. Service always special.
My friend and I enjoyed the ambiance, service and menu. The food was perfect for a pre theatre lunch.
I love this place. When my sister comes to town, we always go. I love the décor and the fact that there's lots of room between the tables.
Sorry to say that dinner was not worth the $$ the steak was mediocre, the pasta was bland and the price not worth the quality of the food.
We had 5:30pm dinner reservations for 4 people on a Saturday night. We were seated upstairs in a lovely room at a table already set with pre-theater pre-fixe menus. When we requested the a la-carte dinner menu we were denied! We were told we were not allowed to have that menu and were forced to order only from the $58 per person pre-fixe one. The menu was not described to us and the waiter hovered over us while we tried to make our choices. We actually had to ask him to leave and give us some time to decide. We were forced to order from a limited menu. We felt railroaded into our choices. Additionally, the food was mediocre at best! When the check arrived it was incorrect, and overcharged us by adding on up-charges, that were removed once we brought it to their attention. After that experience, you can be assured we will NOT be back. And as a note: we are local New Yorkers and avid theater goers.
It is expensive, and they push the $58 prefix by not providing an a la carte menu. But the food, service, and elegant surrounding are worth it.
Eduardo was a wonderful host, made us feel welcomed and engaged us in interesting stories about restaurant. We have been here once before BUT definitely returning again sooner.
