About Barbetta Restaurant

Celebrating its 108th Year, Barbetta is the oldest restaurant in New York still owned by its founding family. Barbetta is also New York's oldest Italian restaurant and the oldest restaurant in the Theater District. This three-fold distinction has earned it landmark status by the Locali Storici d'Italia. In a glittering interior decorated with 18th century Italian antiques Barbetta serves the cuisine of Piemonte, Italy's northwestern most region. In summer, its exuberantly verdant garden with century-old trees and scented with the blooms of wisteria, oleander, jasmine and gardenia make it a most sought-after site for al fresco dining.

We had a wonderful experience. The place is beautiful and the service was good. The food was very good. It is expensive but we expected that.

A wonderful atmospheric place. Food was delicious, service efficient, and we were finished in plenty of time for the theatre.

As always, Barbetta did not disappoint.....arrive @ 6:00PM, get entertained by maitre de, order the prefix, have a couple of bottles of Italian wine, and out the door by 7:30PM to get to the theatre on time for an 8:00PM curtain....will do it again when next in NY for the theatre.

At 111 years young, Barbetta's has stood the test of time and delivers quality meals, superlative service, in an authentic setting, time and time, again. Love the fact that many of their entrees also note what year they were introduced to their customers on the menu. Bravo to the team at Barbetta's.

25th Anniversary Dinner. Had the Pate appetizer, Lamb Entree, and Brooklyn Bridge Dessert. Best dinner I ever had. Take the East River Ferry from Wall Street or 34th Street for a view of the City. NOT CHEAP.

So disappointed.. lovely greeting etc, but really food was overpriced & to be honest not that good. We didn’t have time for the pre theatre menu which in fairness looked good value, we were told we could choose an appetiser & it would be served as a main course size... fish came with no side vegetables etc just fish with a green puddle around the fish. The rigatoni portion was minuscule even if it had been an appetiser I would still be disappointed! Anyway an expensive mistake which is a shame because if the meal had been better the experience would have been memorable for the right reasons!

First time back to Barbetta's in 20+ years, and little has changed. Great staff, runs like a "top", but definitely needs an update. Had the pre-theatre dinner, and the both the filet and tenderloin were properly prepared, although the sauces were heavy and the potatoes/salad uninteresting. We were very nicely welcomed and since it was our anniversary, they comped after dinner apperitifs, very nice touch. I hope that they update the menu, as I've had a few memorable meals, although not this time. Certainly a New York place to go.

I had read some reviews that made me scepitcal about whether or not to try this restaurant but I am SO GLAD I didn’t let them deter me! Barbetta’s pretheatre dinner had delicious options to choose from. The group of four I was with all ordered different things and they were all VERY TASTY! Our waiter was attentive and generous. The Italian man that greeted us and speaks to you throughout the night is a gem! The whole experience was lovely. I can’t wait to return when we come to New York again!

this place is a faded glory. I am sure it was stunning back in the day but now it just looks a bit sad. Service and food was good - not overly outstanding but much better than I thought it would be. I was happy with the price of the bottle of lanson champagne.

all in all, there are so many other places to go in NYC - this one needs an uplift.

Very enjoyable, reasonably priced, pre-theater dinner. Attentive service. Good selection of items from the regular dinner menu for the pre-theater options. Specializing in cuisine from Emilia Romagna region, so a nice change from the usual red sauce cuisine. We'll be back.

In the theatre district, this restaurant is a gem. The food was superb, the atmosphere relaxing, and the service outstanding. The maitre’d went out of his way to make our 13 year old daughter feel special. We did not get to experience the patio, as we were there is late November, but it looked lovely. I highly recommend this restaurant!

It was lovely, the staff was very friendly and professional. The food was excellent, they got us fed and out in time for our show. We are looking forward to a return visit with more time. Perhaps in the summer when we can take advantage of your outdoor dining.

It was like going back in time when we walked in. The restaurant has been around for 111 years and it was beautiful. However, when I made the reservation I did not know that the pre-show dinner was a price fixed menu with limited selections. My husband was initially not happy but then did enjoy the sea bass. But I would not have gone here if I knew beforehand that it was a limited, price fixed menu.

Expensive for the service we received. Only offered the pre-theatre menu though we said we were not in a rush to go to a play. We were rushed when we arrived and then, had to wait for a long time for the salad, then for the entré and then for the desert. The waiter chief , the one who seated us to the table and said "this is the only menu we have", was rude and rushing us.
This was our third time at Barbetta and we are NOT going back!

They did not have an a la carte menu, only prixe fixe. After much waiting and discussion they said we could choose individual items for the Prixe Fixe menu, but never told us the individual prices until we came to pay the bill. The food portions were small and on the whole tasteless.
Will never go there again
