About Barbetta Restaurant
Celebrating its 108th Year, Barbetta is the oldest restaurant in New York still owned by its founding family. Barbetta is also New York's oldest Italian restaurant and the oldest restaurant in the Theater District. This three-fold distinction has earned it landmark status by the Locali Storici d'Italia. In a glittering interior decorated with 18th century Italian antiques Barbetta serves the cuisine of Piemonte, Italy's northwestern most region. In summer, its exuberantly verdant garden with century-old trees and scented with the blooms of wisteria, oleander, jasmine and gardenia make it a most sought-after site for al fresco dining.

Barbetta Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Hostess stressed looking at her list the whole time and not friendly. This is the first impression. Wait staff attentive and atmosphere very nice. Would like to try sitting outside next time. Easy walk to theatre. Salmon a little over cooked. I would go again!
Great find before seeing Hamilton! So close to Richard Rogers theatre. Pre-theatre menu was good and I thought the price was fair. The service was great - my only criticism would be that we felt rushed since they knew we were seeing a show. However, I appreciated their commitment to providing a quality meal, excellent service while ensuring we made it to our show on time.
We like Barbetta and were happy to be back after many years. The garden is delightful and a quiet oasis in the midst of Theater Row and Times Square. The service was good - very attentive. The wine list excellent and the lovely waiter offered my husband several tastings.
The food was very good. My scallops were excellent; my husband had agnolotti.
Also loved the desserts: The creme brûlée as lovely and light.
We had a great time and will definitely return pre-theater.
This was our third time at Barbetta's in the last 20 years. We always felt that dining in the garden was a special experience. This time we celebrated our wedding anniversary and it was special again. The food was delicious and the service was extraordinary. It was a beautiful evening to dine in the garden.
We went to Barbetta before seeing Hamilton. The service was really great, however once we said we were seeing a show, everything seemed rushed and the options seemed very limited. I get that it's a challenge to get people out the door on time for a show, but we had reservations for 6:15 and the show was at 8:00. We were finished with dinner by 7:15. The restaurant is a 5 minute walk from the theater (which is a plus!), so a little more attention to food detail would have been welcomed. The food was okay, but we were hoping for a lot more. The wine steward was awesome and we appreciated his attention to detail. Just wished the food matched that.
We are lifelong New Yorkers who somehow planned, but never got around to this lovely restaurant. Yes, it is old fashioned but so are many places in Italy. We dined in the garden which reminded us of Rome. The food was homemade and delicious. We can't wait to return.
Varied menu and excellent service in the elegant old-world setting of the Dining Room. The ambience mde the birthday celebration special. Waiters were very attentive and made good suggestions for the courses and the wine. We have had many good lunches and dinners in this restaurant and love the garden in good weather.
I have ALWAYS wanted to eat at Barbetta, thanks to Restaurant week I finally could. The ambiance was magnificent, the food was quite tasty and I found the staff to be highly professional...we lacked for nothing. Super place to impress your out of town guests. I'm going to have to try Barbetta Brunch next time!
Fantastic little gem in the heart of NYC's Theater District - and the outside garden is magnificent! Food is excellent and the pre-theater menu is just perfect. Plus, you never feel rushed or that you won't make curtain in time. Staff makes sure that you will!! Do not miss this spot!
We ordered off the three course restaurant week menu for $42. The value was good, but the choices for the main entre could have been better. I ordered the salmon which i enjoyed, however, my sister's was a little dry. One of my friend's ordered the pork and complained that it was dry too. The dessert presentation was poorly presented. The strawberries were served on a cake plate. My sister had chocolate moose also served on a cake plate and you could only imagine what it looked like to everyone! LOL. Overall we enjoyed the meal. We enjoyed the wines the sommelier recommended. too. The garden is lovely! I believe restaurant week should be about enjoying the same quality food and presentation for a great price, so the consumer can't resist going back!
We went during Restaurant Week and the Prix Fix Menu was not very good. I wouldn't say horrible but I have had much better meals there during Restaurant Week and regular visits. The service is great. Food was a little slow in coming but we were sitting out on the patio in the back that is AMAZING so it didn't really make a difference this time. If you go definitely go sit in the patio area if you can. I've recommended this restaurant to many and will continue to do so but was a little disappointed this time.
our waiter was rude and lied to us about the menu.
Upon our arrival their was a daily menu awaiting for us on the table, as we started to look through it our waiter showed up and asked if we were satisfied with the menu, we asked if there was another menu he said no and proceeded to walk away. He came back shortly after took our order and carried on. An hour later we noticed that he sat a couple at a table near us and provided them with the option of choosing between two menus. When it came to paying our bill, he left us sitting there for a good 20 minutes, over looking us and not acknowledging us, the crowed is of an older generation and since we are in our 20's/30's, i feel that we were being looked down upon and not taken seriously. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone!
The portions served were minute - even at Restaurant Week prices! Ridiculous and embarrassing!! What we did receive was not so wonderful - I ordered the pork roast and was served the burnt end piece. With so many other choices on Restaurant Row, this one belongs at the bottom of the list!
