About Barbetta Restaurant

Celebrating its 108th Year, Barbetta is the oldest restaurant in New York still owned by its founding family. Barbetta is also New York's oldest Italian restaurant and the oldest restaurant in the Theater District. This three-fold distinction has earned it landmark status by the Locali Storici d'Italia. In a glittering interior decorated with 18th century Italian antiques Barbetta serves the cuisine of Piemonte, Italy's northwestern most region. In summer, its exuberantly verdant garden with century-old trees and scented with the blooms of wisteria, oleander, jasmine and gardenia make it a most sought-after site for al fresco dining.

In the theatre district, this restaurant is a gem. The food was superb, the atmosphere relaxing, and the service outstanding. The maitre’d went out of his way to make our 13 year old daughter feel special. We did not get to experience the patio, as we were there is late November, but it looked lovely. I highly recommend this restaurant!

It was lovely, the staff was very friendly and professional. The food was excellent, they got us fed and out in time for our show. We are looking forward to a return visit with more time. Perhaps in the summer when we can take advantage of your outdoor dining.

It was like going back in time when we walked in. The restaurant has been around for 111 years and it was beautiful. However, when I made the reservation I did not know that the pre-show dinner was a price fixed menu with limited selections. My husband was initially not happy but then did enjoy the sea bass. But I would not have gone here if I knew beforehand that it was a limited, price fixed menu.

The pre-theater menu was limited. The main course tasted like pot roast. The waiter was
condescending.

Expensive for the service we received. Only offered the pre-theatre menu though we said we were not in a rush to go to a play. We were rushed when we arrived and then, had to wait for a long time for the salad, then for the entré and then for the desert. The waiter chief , the one who seated us to the table and said "this is the only menu we have", was rude and rushing us.
This was our third time at Barbetta and we are NOT going back!

They did not have an a la carte menu, only prixe fixe. After much waiting and discussion they said we could choose individual items for the Prixe Fixe menu, but never told us the individual prices until we came to pay the bill. The food portions were small and on the whole tasteless.
Will never go there again

Barbetta is a beautiful restaurant. The food is consistently good and service is excellent. I highly recommend it for pre-theater dinner. In the summer they have a lovely outdoor dining area.

We recently went to Barbetta because my friend's parents had loved it - and so did we! We were seated in an upstairs room which was quiet and comfortable. The food was excellent and the service terrific. We loved our visit and hope to return.

We were seated in the garden. What a beautiful place to have a dinner. Fortunately the weather was perfect for outside dining however the restaurant interior is extremely nice as well. The food and service was great.

Beautiful room as I remembered it. Cordial greeting but service was functional not concerned with offering typical condiments or the quality of the food which was only mediocre.

Although it's not clear on their web site this resturant only offers a prefix dinner before the theater for $58. They said they couldn't handle a regular menu. They said we could order alacarte from the prefix menu. The salmon (which on the website is listed as $23) was $37. And that 's what it was a small piece of salmon on three slices of cucumber! Because we complained they gave us desert for free - which would have been $18 for a piece of cake. I think they should make it very clear on their websit that all they offer is this prefix dinner.

Possibly the most historic, beautiful, and romantic restaurant on Restaurant Row in NYC's theatre district. This is the first time I've gotten to sit in the main dining room, which is an historical landmark, as we savored the Piedmontese cuisine: a piping hot sort of cheese and vegetable crepe and beef in a Bartolo mixture with polenta for me; roasted vegetable soup and swordfish for my companion, and side salads. Desserts were a stupendous orange/bitter-sweet chocolate mousse and a hazelnut cake with vanilla whipped cream. We drank Barolo, which they most wonderfully have by the glass. This is dining in the grand style, and it was the start of a great evening.

The place is nice very Italian inside. However I️ think very overpriced for the quality of food and the portions size. There’s way better places in the city for the price and quality of food. I️t is a nice place to go before a show:

It was my first time but will not be my last! The food was exceptional, atmosphere old world, wonderful service. The best tart I have ever had (dessert). All three of us would come back. The roasted veggie soup had just the right amount of spice and my pasta with the olive paste - OMG. Never had it before and it certainly was worth having again.

We were disappointed in this restaurant.
Supposed to be Italian but only a couple of things Italian on the menu.
We ended up eating Salmon.
The creme brulee was average at best
We had to flag the waiter to get a cup of coffee and a cup of tea
The waiter never came back to ask if we wanted another cup
He took my tea bag before the tea was brewed.
For what it cost I would not recommend this restaurant.
Try the Olive Garden.

Food was not great. Borderline bland. Decor needs to be tidied. Odd stuffed toys hanging over the bathroom in a place charging 58 dollars per person. Was advised they could do a la carte but was not provided an a la carte menu. Wine was good. Except fly got in my wife's wine, and the waiter tried to fish it out with a knife rather than immediately replacing it.

This is the second time I have been to Barbetta and both times I was lucky enough to go when it was still beautiful to be out in the courtyard. What a fabulous setting - right on Restuarant Row but with a quiet and secluded courtyard, complete with serene fountain in the middle. And you cant beat outdoor fine dining ! Foodwise they are always superb....the crudites were outstandingly tasty, and being a risotto fan, the triple risotto was my home ! Highly recommend to anyone who wants the best....

Reserved a table after theater on a Tuesday night. there were only 12 diners in the restaurant, odd for one on restaurant row with a long legacy. The service was almost too attentive given the ratio of server to diner. The price of the salads and deserts ($18.00 each) was too high for the serving size. As one who has enjoyed the restaurant over the years and who was looking forward to introducing my husband to the establishment, I left feeling bad that it lost its luster. I found the food to be average, but not outstanding. I found the price to be excessive on certain selections. Sadly, I will not return.
