We were excited about trying this historic restaurant, but all in our party were very disappointed. Food was not hot and didn’t live up to expectations. Perhaps the staff has gotten complacent. We were told the long delay in service was because they had three floors of customers to serve, but for a restaurant in business as long as this one, that explanation rang very hollow.
Looking at the pictures on opentable and on yelp thought this was the perfect place to take a date especially since they had a prefix menu and a swing band scheduled. This place was dry and disappointing in every way. The waiter that serviced us had a dirty uniform pen marks and stains throughout. Place was quiet as can be felt like a library. Food was forgettable and tasteless. Swing band non-existent there was a violinist but that wasn’t what was advertised. The downstairs where the swing band was supposed to be looked like the ballroom scene in the shining. The people in the movie had more life than the people in this restaurant. This place was labeled as a sure fire closer on this day it was not good thing this wasn’t a first date.
Amazing Valentine's Day with my woman. We had a fabulous time!
WE DINED AT BARBETTA FOR VALENTINES DAY AND ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE ENTIRE EXPERIENCE. WHEN YOU WALK IN YOU UNDERSTAND WHY THIS PLACE HAS BEEN AROUND FOR 110 YEARS. THE CHARM AND AMBIANCE WAS WONDERFUL. BY LOOKING AROUND THE ROOM, IT WAS CLEAR THEY HAVE A LARGE LOCAL FOLLOWING. THE MENU WAS PRIX FIXED AND DELICIOUS. WE WILL BE BACK AGAIN TO SAMPLE THE REGULAR MENU AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR COURTYARD SEATING. THEY HAD A JAZZ TRIO PLAYING MUSIC AND IT WAS SO FUN SEEING COUPLES TAKE TO THE DANCE FLOOR BETWEEN MEAL COURSES. WE WERE ASTOUNDED BY THE PRICE TOO, VERY REASONABLE! IT WAS A VERY SPECIAL WAY TO SPEND VALENTINES DAY IN THE CITY AND WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND BARBETTA!!
One our favorite places in the theatre district
Compared to other Theatre District restaurants, Barbetta is decent.
Black tie service. Service as would be expected. Wonderful food. Reasonable price fix menu.
We try to eat at Barbetta at least once on our annual February trip to NYC and it never disappoints !
We had dinner there pre theater. My friend had never been so we decided to go and enjoyed it immensely.
Very dated interior and service. Charlie Brown and Hello Kitty as bathroom markers wee trashy. Asked us about wine 4 times in 5 minutes. Won’t be going back. Fine for before a show but not worth traveling for.
Not for the young folks
Don’t go to Barbetta. Service is indifferent & rude. Food is atrocious - worst dining experience we’ve had in years.
Beautiful restaurant with great service.. Would definitely recommend this place..
I finally made it to Barbetta, my friend & I were very excited to try it out. We have both been to many high end places in NY & this was a disappointment. My appetizer which was pasta came out cold, it was good but not warm at all. The entree Braised beef & poached pear were both good.
The Captain/Waiter Ramon ruined the experience for us. He was rude, abrupt & needs to learn how to speak & communicate with people. Also the coat lady was too aggressive for us, she demanded out coats, very weird. I am not really sure how so many people gave good reviews, I will never recommend or go back, too many other places to try with better service.
Had a lovely experience. Eduardo, our waiter (or, perhaps the head waiter) definitely added to our evening. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
The ambiance is that of an elegant parlor.
Eduardo made the experience for us. My fiancee and I went to Barbetta for her birthday. He was so kind and funny and made sure we had a great experience. He's been working there for 49 years and we're all lucky to have him around. Come for the food and decor, get charmed by Eduardo.
We had an enjoyable and I non rushed pre theatre dinner during restaurant week, so it was a particularly good value. Very traditional setting from a more formal yet comfortable era. We had a small table for two complete with table lamp and fresh flowers. Wait staff was very professional and attentive. If you are fortunate enough to get Eduardo you are in for a real treat. He is professional, personable, engaging and filled with the history of both the restaurant and neighborhood and has been at the restaurant for 40 years . He alone is worth the price of dinner!
Awesome awesome awesome. Always consistent. Staff always respectful and courteous. I'm a native New Yorker not a transplant and find home here. Bravo!!
One of my favorite New York restaurants---northern Italian food--incredibly beautiful inside.
The food was exceptional. The service was outstanding. Yes the decor is a little dated but the restaurant has been in business for113 years. The filet was cooked perfectly and the crespelle appetizer was so good. It should be an entree. The espresso fudge cake was a chocolate lover’s dream. Go there and enjoy.
Loved the atmosphere And food was amazing!! First time in NY and had amazing meal!
Is this anonymous? If it’s anonymous I will write an experienced description if not then I will just say that this was not the Barbetta that I expected or experienced in the past
We were shuffled to the coat room others were seated before us and we were taking upstairs to a room which looks like Becco my friend and I were seated at a small table side-by-side we were not a couple one of the servers kept banging into me with his hip as he served the table next to me because it was so close we were being questioned repeatedly as to whether or not we wanted more Pellegrino or cocktails and the person told us his manager was watching to see if our glasses were empty
Finally the nicest waiter moved us to a corner after the appetizer where we had some room to sit that was the worst table for two friends getting together I felt like I was eating the man’s beard next to me
My friend was served the wrong entrée she never said anything I just realized it this morning
Waiter was wonderful the rest disappointing
The zabaglionE was lacking in the custard cream
Steps don’t work for everyone my friend could not go up and down more than once
I love Barbetta I was disappointed
Please keep my thoughts anonymous thank you
Food was okay but not worth the money. Some of the staff was rude.
the chicken and pasta dishes were excellent. salad was hood too. the beef was dry and not very tasty. the staff were kind and very accommodating. i would definitely come here again!
Pre theater dinner
Thanks to all the crew for wonderful hospitality and opening kitchen for a chef visit with Rocky
Food was good but minimal. Service was very efficient but servers had no personality. It was like an assembly line, in and out as efficiently as possible. Wine was extremely over-priced. Won’t go back.
Thought the menu was a little boring & ambience dated.
Food is good, pasta is fresh and decor is beautiful.
Very good meal from the restaurant week menu. Very traditional place but everything done well.
You fill like you’re dinning at home. Beautiful restaurant. The maître d’ hotel was so kind.
I've been going here pre- theater for over 35 years. This was my first return visit in a while and it was as good an experience as my first time. A great dining alternative even if your not going to the theater.
Excellwnr as usual - always a treat when I go into the city
Nice atmosphere, quiet even though restaurant week. Food very good but not great.
Great place! Food was amazing and it was resturant week too which was a plus . Love the atmosphere, I felt like i was truly in Italy.
We went post-theater and had the prix-fixe menu.
Although the place is pretty inside, the food was tasteless and the service was rude and sporadic.
They were in a rush to take your order and then left you sitting there with dirty plates until we flagged a waiter and asked him to clear.
With so many good restaurants in the area, I would think twice about going here.
Love this place! The service is old school with coat clerk at entrance. Amazing ambiance and worth a visit!
Delicious food! Added to our family memorable theater experience! Appreciate that they allowed us to share entrees and divided the food on plates before delivering to the table.
I had wanted to try Barbetta for many years. I was very disappointed. The food was brought out too quickly making it feel rushed. I ordered the Sea Bass which was very watery with little flavor overall. I asked for a latte to end the meal and was brought something closer to espresso that tasted burned. I asked for another with milk foam and was brought the same drink as the first time. No one came to ask if it was OK even though there was only one other table with guests. I left the drink full and they left it on the bill. The bathroom was dirty as well with a garbage can knocked over and it was the beginning of the evening so clearly not something they check on. I think they need a lot of help to get it back to what I was told was once great.
Food is good and the service is attentive. Decor is a bot presumptuous and the maitre d has a bit of an attitude and not very attuned to your needs. In general a fair experience and we would go again.
Disappointing experience. Food was underwhelming for a MICHELIN star restaurant. The service was brutal. Great support staff, but waiter seemed mad at the world. Bummer.
