Baraonda is a trendy Italian restaurant by day and dance club by night. The dining area features brightly colored walls adorned with artwork and unique lighting. Tables for guests are covered in white linen for a casually sophisticated feel during the day. At night, the tables are moved to make space for dancing with a live DJ and upbeat music. Baraonda is a great place to relax, celebrate a special occasion or enjoy a casual date.
Begin the meal with a classic appetizer like buffalo mozzarella with vine ripe tomatoes, fried calamari with shrimp and zucchini or Adriatic-style seafood salad in lemon vinaigrette. Pasta dishes include options like tagliatelle alla Bolognese, veal ravioli with butter, sage and crispy pancetta and homemade potato gnocchi with white truffle cream and parmesan cheese. Baraonda also offers a wide variety of meat and seafood entrées as well as drinks and desserts.
They can do better
Service: gave it a shot again and the service was horrid. Sat outside and the inside as well as out was not busy at all.
They need to step this up.
Seems to be an ongoing issue for many years but outdoor space is nice.
For a casual street corner restaurant, the service was painfully slow - 30 minutes to order, 39 minutes to get the salads and then 30 minutes before the entrees came out. Re-fill water, forget it!
The hostess was friendly and welcoming but it all went downhill after that.
Excellent - Cousins visiting from Germany and wanted Italian Food. Food and Service were excellent. Waiter was great too. Will definitely return.
We eat here a lot, but this time they changed the menu--and it is much shorter now. Only 3 specials so that was not the reason. Same manager. Not sure what happened, but for us the food was the same quality, so the only downside is less choice.
We also like it here because they have a lot of outdoor seating.
If it's a nice night and you like eating good food outside with good service and nice atmosphere: this is the place for you.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Baraonda. The open air windows, the service, the food, the table, everything were really pleasant. We will be back!
Date with my girlfriend for her birthday. Was expecting the ambiance that was previously experienced but the restaurant is undergoing a cosmetic face-lift. The walls were stripped of the colorful paintings and looked like walls that need painting. The restrooms and the floors were not as clean as usual. The tables no longer bolted to the floor. But guess what? The prices were still high if not higher than usual. I paid $48 for a pounded flat breaded veal chop.
If I had know what the place was going to be like for what was a special dinner I would have never gone. They should have had an alert on Open Table and the Website with a premium like a free bottle of wine during the renovation. If I saw that I would have went somewhere else given the occasion and then visited them after they finish the work. Now I just won't go again.
The food and wine was tasty, although the $48 veal chop was a little tough and chewy. The waiter was awesome though and made the experience as good as it could be under the circumstances.
My wife used to love this place so we came here to meet a friend of hers and they were happy with their food but I wasn't so pleased. My lobster ravioli had very little meat in the ravioli, the ravioli itself was a little hard for my taste, and the sauce was borderline watery. The asparagus didn't pair that well with the ravioli either. The server wasn't super attentive either (and we were one of only a few tables) but the other staff seemed good.
While I will say that the food was good - but not fantastic - considering the expense, it was definitely not what it should have been.
The service, however, was completely disgraceful. When we arrived our waitress seated us to a table squished in the corner, despite my instructions in my reservation that this was a special occasion - my husband's birthday. Our waitress chucked our menus at us and then came back 5 minutes later asking if we were ready to order our drinks. As a large party, we had yet to decide and so she barked at us "give me a signal when you're finally ready" and took off. It took another 20 minutes to get her attention. Every interaction with this waitress was full of disdain and not a single person even wished my husband a happy birthday or checked to see if we were enjoying our meals. You could not pay me to return to this restaurant.
GREAT FOOD.. Nice place to have a meal with a friend significant other or a place for a business meeting you can hear the people you are with speak cozy comfortable great waiters and waitresses the owner was very attentive from the time we arrived she took us to our table and when we were finished she walked us out we will be back especially when it gets warm out outdoor seating a great plus

Favorite UES spot! Delicious pasta, wonderful service, the quintessential locale for delicious Italian.
Everything was okay but the food was a bit overrated.
After visiting again and again it is always an uplifting dining experience.
I have dined at Baraonda several times with groups of friends. We enjoy the service, drinks, and delicious food. The owner is not only a gracious, personable friendly host, but runs a wonderful establishment. The servers are so polite and attentive, and the dishes never disappoint. I am a big fan of the salmon, and my whole group is always pleased with their choices as well. Baraonda is a favorite spot, and I will definitely return!!
Service was poor and slow. Food was not as represented on the menu. Errors on the bill. Costly and unenjoyable dining experience A bad day for the restaurant and for my table of diners.
Great food in a conveniently located spot on UES. Excellent option to eat outside. Food was excellent as were the choices and specials. Great, professional service. You will enjoy!
Loved the variety in Italian dishes and their tiramisu is second to none! Friendly staff and great choice in Italian wines as well. We'll be back
We ate outside on a warm summer day which was quite pleasant, except when noisy trucks barreled down second avenue. The service was fairly attentive and the food was good, but inconsistent. The fried calamari, shrimp and zucchini was delicious, salads were fair, fettuccini with truffles special was expensive and not very creative, the other pastas on the regular menu were better. For dessert, I highly recommend the fried banana - outstanding! Overall, a nice place with decent service and good food, but relatively high prices.
Great food, great service, wonderful ambiance with a very friendly staff who are very attentive but not overly so. The menu is imaginative, the wines are good and reasonably priced. The art work is excellent.. This is truly my favourite Italian restaurant in New York City .. if not the US !!!
We went to Baraonda to celebrate a birthday. I made the reservation based on Opentable reviews. The 4 of us had a wonderful time at this cozy corner restaurant. The walls are covered by large and colorful paintings by a Brazilian artist who is a friend of the owner. We were welcomed warmly by the owner as if we were regulars. We ordered from the regular menu (brunch was available) and the food was perfectly cooked and presented. Two of us had fish which was moist and fresh; the other two in our party had a chicken dish with they each liked. The service was attentive and very professional. We recommend this restaurant and will be back.
I'm a big fan of this restaurant and bring visiting friends and family there all the time.
We have been here many many times. The food and ambience is good. This time the food was better than good, it was very good. It was a hot night and they were very busy so we waited a long time for our dinner to come. We were with friends and enjoying ourselves so it didn't matter so much.but I gave the service 3 stars for that reason. The wait staff did a fine job attending to us, however.
We will be back!
We asked the waiter what's in a particular menu item, and he said "I don't know". I'm pretty sure a McDonald's worker would be fired for that. He proceeded to insult one of us for ordering a burger in their restaurant. The food came out inexplicably bad. He then complained when we split a bill for 6 people on 3 cards.
There are approx. 50 brunch restaurants within a 2 block radius of Baraonda, and I don't think they will be in business long if this is the service they plan to maintain.
Add insult to injury, no brunch cocktails were available that day. If only there was a way to put orange juice and champagne in a single glass without it being too difficult...
Excellent find! Highly recommend. A joy to eat there. Great atmosphere. Loved the seafood dishes we tried. Paired with a white wine. Be prepared More like $$ than $. Very very good!
Baraonda is a wonderful restaurant--great food, great ambiance, and superb service. I will go back frequently...
Thanks for almost ruining our dinner! If your young baby cannot deal with dining out yet ( and why should they?) please don't ruin it for everyone else. And if you are too selfish to pick that kid up and leave, then the Management needs to do so. It seems that the Management is more afraid of insulting one table than ruining dinner for the other six.
Food, as usual, was excellent. Menu provided great flexibility in choices. Service was terrific - received excellent suggestions?

I would recommend this restaurant on a non-so-busy evening. The food was great, but the tables were on top of each other.
We enjoyed our dinner. The service was good. The other people at the restaurant were friend. One improvement would be some more space between tables was too close both between tables and rows of tables.
They treat you like family...been going for years!!!!

Party could not stop talking about Friday night! I got great rave reviews for picking Baraonda. Food was delicious, ambiance was divine. Service was incredible. Our waiter made the evening a huge success. Drinks at bar first were lots of fun handled by a very knowledgeable bartender who was extremely friendly and accomodating. We will all return either together again or separately.

Overall food was good. Lively ambiance, fun atmosphere. However two big downsides to our meal. a. We were seated next to the windows, which didn't seem to be shuttered properly. The wind kept banging them in and out. As the night continued on it got much colder and breezier, not pleasant on a fall day. b. we were double charged for a bottle of wine! if it wasn't for proofing the bill (which shouldn't be necessary in this age) we never would have seen it. Left the proverbial bad taste in our mouth..
Had to wait 30-35 mins for table despite reservation. Once seated waited an hour for entrees. Waiter apologetic and brought extra wine at no charge. Other diners who were seated after us were served before us. Maybe because we weren't "regulars" but rather visitors, we were given less priority.
Loved the ambiance and food. Might try again to see if that night was just a fluke.
We are a group of ladies who frequent various restaurants in the Yorkville area for special occasions. We all had a wonderful dining experience & the food was excellent.... We have been here at least once previously and found it to be a great dining experience.
Saw on Chef's Feed that Eric Ripert recommends the "off the menu" artichoke, arugula, pistachio warm salad. So right! So good! Thanks, chef!
Small dining area, but great food and great ambience. The service was outstanding. The food delicious. The inside is set with all different handpainted portraits from an artist - vibrant and fun. Warm shades of amber, orange and gold, lighting and décor adds to the romantic and festive feeling, as if you are in bistro in Spain, Portugal or Latin America. Wonderful music piped in at dinner and at night. We were told that late night after 11PM on Sunday the tables are moved back and the room opened to music and dancing... Would definitely go back.
this restaurant is usually noisy and packed, so I was a bit surprised that last saturday it was not busy (oh, the joys of the city when everyone leaves for the weekend!). Since the weather was cooler, we were able to sit outside and had a pleasant, if somewhat unmemorable, meal. I had the pasta bolognese, my friend has the pasta special - both nice dishes, but non-spectacular (confession - I eat at Lupa often, so my pasta standards have been elevated)
