Bar Vespa - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Bar Vespa consistently has wonderful food and great service. The food is always interesting, creative, and full of flavours! When people visit us this is the place we take them to for dinner. If you go for winterlicious , the ricotta starter is amazing. Crispy outside and soft and cheesy on the inside. Their regular menu changes on occasion and I've never been disappointed. I've had the simple spaghetti and meatballs, through to the pizzas, fish, and sharing plates. Seriously you can't go wrong. They also have craft beers and nice wines. They've recently added some very comfortable booths which makes it more cosy.
The restaurant decor and staff are great. We were there on a Friday night and apparently the "business" is hit and miss. Not having a good ambiance took away from the whole experience so the food needed to be great to help. Unfortunately the food was good but some dishes were a little bland otherwise could have been great. Not sure why it isn't constantly busy but with a constant crowd and a few food tweaks this place could be a hot spot.
I stumbled upon Bar Vespa while looking online for restaurants in Liberty Village. The menu had a variety of foods that I thought my friends and I would enjoy so I booked a reservation for my birthday! We had a great time, with great service, good eats and yummy drinks. Not to mention they gave me a complimentary dessert and shots for all of us! Pick have already recommended Zbar Vespa to friends and family and will continue to. Thanks for the wonderful experience! :)
Booked table for Monday at 5:15 pm. Accidentally booked for Saturday so then went on the app and changed it to Monday after realization. Received email on Sunday that Bar Vespa cancelled my reservation on Open Table. Called them and they denied cancelling it. I have the email to prove it. I certainly didn't cancel it myself. Person who picked up offered to make the reservation through him. I guess he doesn't want to pay Open Table $1. I said I wanted the points and then reserved again on Open Table. Got my points.
Having a reservation here means absolutely nothing! We had dinner this evening before a concert nearby and got the bum's rush without being asked if we wanted dessert or coffee because they were "busy" and one of the servers hadn't shown up for their shift. The food is nothing to write home about and we'll be trying a new resto called LOCAL when we want to dine in the area again.
Went to Bar Vespa before TFC game(specifically wanting Summerlicious). It was especially busy due to game &World Cup match. I made reservations 2 hours before kickoff time! We were seated fairly quickly once we arrived as we had reservations. Our server informed us the kitchen was backed up &could not do Summerlicious menu in time for game so we ordered off the "TFC game" menu. Thinking time was an issue we only ordered mains which came out 5 mins later? Faster than McDees! My pasta was ok my husbands was horrible. The server only returned once we had finished, plates cleared by busboy to state "your mains are taking a long time I'll check with kitchen." She didn't even know we had gotten food &eaten it!Don't recommend &will never return
We went to Bar Vespa during FIFA game and before a TFC game. The weather was perfect. The place was packed. Service was great. I had the Kale and Spinach Salad and loved it. My husband had the Pasta Nachos and the wings. He said the wings were "ok" but the nachos were really good. The atmosphere was really nice. We sat outside. The place was full. Some families with kids too. Inside was also packed with people watching the game. Prices were reasonable. I would highly recommend this place.
We returned to Vespa after a year long hiatus in hopes that the food improved. It was a hit and miss. My pizza was very good as was my husbands salmon but the mushroom side dish was horrible. Too vinegary. Thanks to our very nice server, we did not have to pay for it.
We would return again but I am still hoping that the food improves.
I would definitely go back to Bar Vespa? We were a large group and our waitress and hostess was attentive and accommodating? Consider the World Cup was on and the restaurant was very busy, it did not interfere with the excellent service we received. We will definitely be going back again! Thank you!
I am writing to complain about the unacceptable treatment that our group received in your restaurant on Saturday, June 14th.
The party arrived for their 12:30 p.m. reservation only to be told “there is no reservation.” As you can see below, the reservation was booked on May 28th through Open Table.
1:00 p.m. when finally seated, the group ordered lunch and told the staff they needed to leave quickly for the game. 1:45 p.m. still no food , the group cancelled the lunch order and again, requested the bill for the drinks. Waited around until 1:55 p.m. to pay the bill – no one showed up with the bill.
Terrible service!!! Bar Vespa will not be on our listing of venues to frequent going forward.
They have a great patio at this Liberty Village resto. It is quiet , unlike some of the patios that are very lively put just too noisy. You can have a nice lunch or dinner here.
The only issue we had was the main course we ordered. It was the special that day , chicken with sausage and figs, it was the figs the caught our
attention. When the meal came, it was not all that hot, and no Figs to be found. We thought that was strange, as it was why we ordered it .We told the waitress and she brought us some sliced figs after our meal was almost finished. I think I would have handled that situation differently. It seemed like she thought, Oh well that is too bad but what can we do now??
Our waitress was very attentive and offered us some wines that were not on the menu. We ended up ordering one of those. I had a salad topped with chicken and it was fantastic. The soup was cauliflower and it was good as well. Overall, I would definitely come back to Bar Vespa as I think the menu has some of the healthiest options for the area.
I came to Bar Vespa because the $10 pizza on Mondays and $10 pasta on Wednesdays is a great deal. However the service is very friendly and delightful and that is what keeps me returning and bringing others. As a visitor to Bar Vespa, I think it reflected well on Liberty Village and Toronto in General. Special kudos to the bartenders and serving staff who were personable and upbeat, and knew their Italian cuisine, making very good recommendations. i especially liked the extra touches (bread with herbs and oil, spicy oil for pizza, hand grated parmesan cheese, sparkling water). it was great and I will come back next time I am in Toronto.
We had a large party and everyone in the group was extremely happy with the experience Bar Vespa gave us! Our server Christina was amazing. She was patient, attentive and friendly! Management was very nice as well! The food was delicious all around! I definitely can see us coming back again!
I took my girlfriend there for our first valentines day together and we were very disappointed. For a restaurant filled with couples they played rock and punk music instead of soft slow songs, the food wasn't cooked well.. The starters were the best part of the meal. Servers were decent except one that seemed to be rushing us out. I wouldn't go there for a date. It's more of a place to have a drink that's it.
The pacing of the food was too quick.
It felt too rushed and that they wanted us in and out within 30 minutes.
I was 3 bites into my appetizer and my entree was already out. I couldn't even enjoy my glass of wine because the food was coming so quickly.
The spices in the oil with the bread service had been burnt or something was off with the spice mix.
I've been here several times before and unfortunately would not go back for a special occasion or valentines day.
Took my girlfriend to this restaurant for Valentine's Day and was pleased with the service. The food was very tasty and food was served relatively quickly. The only critique I have is that our table was by the door, and when I asked to be moved away from the door, the hostess mentioned that the other tables were reserved. I can understand that, but the restaurant was not busy at all, and when we left there were plenty of tables available elsewhere. This restaurant was not full, so I didn't understand why we could not be moved.
We've been to Bar Vespa three times and have never been disappointed. Their chef takes great pride in the food she creates and each time it is just wonderful! It looks lovely on the plate, cooked perfectly with interesting ingredients. We've never been disappointed.
The restaurant is never full when I go, but the food is fantastic and the prices are reasonable. They took the clam linguini off the menu, which was my favourite. They said nobody else ordered it. I think it's their name and the random vespa in front of the restaurant that makes people second guess that the food and ambiance is really nice.
I came here with 10 friends to celebrate my birthday and I must say we were all unanimously appalled at the horrible service. One word encapsualtes it perfectly: S L O W. It took 45 minutes to have our drinks served to us from the time we sat down. Another 20 minutes from that point to receive some bread on the table. The restaurant was not even close to busy which is why were baffled.
On top of that, 2 out of the 10 orders were screwed up.
The manager, location and the decor of the establishment were wonderful. I truly hope they are able to straighten out their service issues. Until then none of us will be returning and will encourage others not to go. Best fo luck.
Although I gave the restaurant a good review, I wasn't totally satisfied. I recommended the restaurant to friends a few weeks ago and they also weren't totally satisfied. Just okay, they said. The menu heavy on pastas and pizza, lacked what I came for and what I recommended, the veal marsala, replaced sometime ago my a very subpar veal piccata like dinner. The pizza is out of this world and a great price at that. The pasta is also excellent, but the portions are somewhat small. The cost for a few extra noodles to fill the plate is not cost breaking to the restauranteur. On many a day, I just want a plate of pasta and a glass wine. Their portions would not satisfy that. Overall I'll highly recommend the pizzas.
