Bar Sugo Ratings and Reviews
Second time in 1 week at Bar Sugo. I celebrated my birthday here last Tuesday. Everything about this restaurant is excellent. Our waitress knew about all the food, all the wines and all the drinks - a rarity nowadays in the restaurant business. The saluminaria platter - excellent choices, delicious. The crisp fried calamari - fresh, not those little frozen circles you get at other places. Octopus and chorizo - the chorizo was better than I have had even in Spain. Pizza? Amazing quality - twice now. This place is brilliant. So glad we heard about it. I am in the wine business and when wine-makers tell me that when they are in the area, this is where they go, you know it's good. Congratulations,
My husband had previous been to Bar Sugo, 3 times for dinner and once for brunch - it has quickly become a favorite spot! The food is just outstanding. However, this time the service was incredibly disappointing, and to make matters worse it was my birthday dinner (which we had noted while making the reservation).
It was some of the worst service I have ever received at a restaurant. We were completely neglected and forgotten about - while I feel our server knew this, he refused to acknowledge it or apologize. I won't drag on about the details because I am really hoping this was a fluke, as all our other previous visits have been wonderful.
We still love Bar Sugo and will continue returning as long as this whole bad service thing doesn't become a habit.
I've been here a few times, but this most recent time was my last. The food is overpriced and the quality is not consistent across all the dishes. Some are good, some bad, some misrepresented (chicken liver mousse was more like a hard paté). They have a table in the back within view of the toilets and the friend who was with me said they often seat her back there (and that's where they seated us last weekend). Not exactly a nice touch. They're popular enough that they'll continue to do fine without my patronage.
We could not have been happier with both the food and service at Bar Sugo. Everything, from the homemade pasta (you have to try the cavatelli), the pizza, different meatballs and brussel sprouts, was amazing. Our first visit was as a family of four with a 5 and 9 year old and they are already asking to go back. While it was certainly child friendly there is not a children's menu. They happily made by 5 year old plain pasta with butter. It would make a wonderful date night restaurant as well.
Magnificent service and the food was even better. From the octopus and short rib appetizers to the fungi pizza and the veal meatballs, everything was amazing. Finally, the wine and beer was well chosen and curated. Don't let the location deter you and go be impressed.
Bar Sugo was fantastic! I loved the food, atmosphere and the variety! I am going back with my girlfriend on Thursday! I highly recommend eating here and bringing a date. The food is the best food I have had in a long long time! It is the farm to table freshness.
We've been to Bar Sugo a number of times and it never disappoints. Love the starters like the brussel sprouts and the meatball sampler! That sampler is awesome!! The pastas and the pizzas are always good, fresh and just really tasty. The wine list is varied and there's definitely something for everyone on there---inexpensive to moderately expensive. Bar Sugo is a great local spot that is really reliable and relaxed and the kind of place to go when you want to know that you're going to have a solid meal and be able to relax and enjoy it.
Food is inventive and delicious, service is friendly and knowledgeable. I just wish they were able to serve everyone at the same time. Sometimes we share and they drop the plates as they are ready, which is fine. This time we ordered individually and one person got their app about 10 minutes before the next person and by the time everyone was served the first person was done. Entrees were a little better, but still staggered. Makes for an awkward night out with friends!
This was a great recommendation and close to an off the beaten track theater but makes for a great date night or night with friends. Food was amazing, and the staff so friendly, helpful and efficient. can't wait to go back....and you HAVE to try the meatballs!
Made a reservation at the recommendation of friends and the food and service at Bar Sugo did not disappoint. Vegetarian bolognese pasta was great, the meatball sampler was enjoyed by all as was the octopus and also the Brussel sprout pizza. Servers were very helpful with food and beer selection. Our reservation was honored on time. All in all a great experience and we will be back.
We are from Milan and know authentic Italian cuisine. The menu was more Italian-inspired pizza, pasta, and such, but the execution was strange - many ingredients that Italians would never use and the combination was not always an improvement. For example why would you put nut slivers in pasta shells? The texture was not pleasing. It made it feel like the pasta was under done/crunchy.
Some of the ideas were interesting, but the end result was not as flavorful as the sheer volume of ingredients would suggest.
Even simple things were hit or miss. The prosciutto was excellent, but the home cured olives were mushy.
The place is really loud and tightly packed. Service was okay, considering the environment in which they must work.
Parking availability is poor.
They are trying too hard and need to go back to the drawing board - non-traditional can be good, but all the dishes we tried disappointed in flavor or texture- we may try again in a year.
We had a very nice meal in terms of quality. The only issue I had with the service was that it seemed to come out at different times. I thought the pasta and pizza (11 inch for about $18-$20) portions were small relative to cost or alternatively expensive versus portion size.
Overall, we liked the food but were a little surprised at the overall cost (almost $32 per person and we had 3 kids) for this type of restaurant.
We will go again but need to manage our ordering to our budget
Good music selection, but volume was a little loud - sometimes difficult to hear my spouse across the table. Food was delicious and presented beautifully. Cocktails were equally delicious, and the all-Italy wine list had a wide diversity of offerings at multiple price levels. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and incredibly efficient. Hope to go back the next time we are in the area to try other menu items.
Food was delicious and the small plates were perfect, satisfied but not stuffed. Wine and drink complimented the food perfectly. Only downfall was odd location with not much else around. Cant have meal and then go for a drink without having to drive afterwards. Definitely worth the trip though, staff and servers were kind and helpful. Will go again with some friends when the time comes, not an every month stop for dinner.
This was my first time at this restaurant and it didn't disappoint. The food/tapas are perfect for sharing and there are a good amount to choose from. We also shared a pasta dish which was just enough. There are delicious seasonal cocktails or an extensive wine list. As for the atmosphere, it's cozy (modern rustic) with high top tables perfect for pairs or groups. Highly recommended. Will be back!
Saturday night dinner at the community table in the front of the restaurant, great seating close to bar and helpful bartender. While the number of entrees is limited, there are plenty of excellent choices otherwise, making it easy to share plates. We divided among our 4 the truffle fries, chicken liver toast, brussel sprouts, cavatelli and meatball tasting, along with a prosciutto pizza. Each dish was better than the last as they came out, and we were full at the end. The server, Holden, was excellent and knowledgeable about the food choices and drinks. We look forward to returning.
