I had the special, lamb chops, which were excellent, as were the profiteroles for dessert. The 3-dips appetizer that my party shared was so-so, and the house specialty chicken tagine that my friend ordered was drowning in gravy. So: 3 stars is tge average overall for the various dishes.
Great ambiance! Food rustic and amazing service.
I dine here frequently--brunch, lunch and dinner. Service is always good, food is always good, and if you have a reservation your table will be waiting. I often bring guests and they always return on their own. That says something for a neighborhood bistro that's been here for years. I pray they'll still be here next week in a neighborhood where landlords seem to prefer banks and drugstores over bistros.
A welcome find in Chelsea - busy bar scene but welcoming staff. Table service was efficient and patient when my date didn't arrive on time. Food was good not great - the pate appetizer was much too big and too thick - two people couldn't finish it and it was much too dense. At that point we were almost full and had trouble finishing our main courses. Seemed like lots of young friends hanging out - burgers, etc. looked good. Not really a gourmet consideration
Nice food, nice ambiance great service
Great ambiance and vibe. Too noisy. But its one of my neighborhood favs.
Love this restaurant
I’ve been here a couple of times with the same friend and to catch up on life...the low lighting invites you to relax and enjoy your meal and your company.
Though “hopping” at night, Bar Six is calm and quiet for lunch - an excellent neighborhood choice for a leisurely midday meal where you can have an easy conversation in a normal voice and be heard. The artichoke appetizer is always delicious as is the onion soup - two menu items that stand out.
Great neighborhood restaurant with French decor, friendly staff, casual atmosphere and good reasonably priced food. Have been coming here for years for both brunch and dinner.
Had been to the bar once many years ago and all I remembered from the experience was having an attitudinal waitress. When I arrived this time, the hostess, instead of actually greeting me at the door, motioned for me to go to her. I told her I had a reservation and she called over the manager. They started walking to the rear without saying or indicating whether I was to follow or not and after we all tripped over each other, I was seated. Not the most professional handling of what one might assume was a frequent function in a restaurant. I'd have been concerned if not for the fact that the friend I'd be meeting has become a semi-regular and has been talking it up. In any case, things improved.
Our table was in the back, which is very pretty and comfortable. A tad noisy, but bistros tend to have few acoustically absorbent materials, so it was not unexpected. Our waiter was pleasant but not engaging. After the 4th time he asked if we were ready to order, he got the idea that some people like to linger over their cocktails. Both of ours were nicely made and served promptly. Our food, the Bisteeya and the Mushroom Risotto, were both excellent and prompt. My espresso was considerably better than the norm.
So, yes, overall it was a good experience. Given the turnover in most restaurants, perhaps the service issues will be improved upon.
I eat here quite frequently and am never disappointed.
The food is well prepared and not overpriced.
Love the skate and artichoke.
The servers are lovely and will accommodate any dietary request.
An excellent neighborhood restaurant that never disappoints. Food is tasty and atmosphere is relaxed. If you can get a corner banquette for 3 or more, do it!
Lunch on a week day was quiet and comfortable. Lovely food. Not sure what the evening scene is like, but we're able to enjoy a meal and long conversation.
Great food and service making a very pleasant experience
New Year's eve dinner for my birthday. The zucchini chips were great, the caesar salad ok. However, the steak au poivre was awful. Described as: STEAK FRITES AU POIVRE DRY AGED GRASS FED NY STRIP W/ HAND CUT FRIES & A COGNAC PEPPERCORN SAUCE
The steak itself was meh, the sauce had the consistency of A-1 , way too heavy and with nary a peppercorn to be seen or tasted. The french fries, which I asked for well-done, came barely cooked.
BANANA BISTEEYA dessert was very good.
I was there last year for the same event and the food was much better.
A favorite local Greenwich Village restaurant. Always feels good to be there. Classic comfort food like roast chicken and a hot fudge sundae or inventive Moroccan dishes such as chicken tangine with couscous.
Came for small birthday celebration Wonderful bistro with delicious French and Moroccan cuisine Many options for non meat eaters Great selection of wine under $50 Convenient to PATH for meeting people from NJ Lovely ambiance
I want to say the service was bad because of a server at the beginning. My friend and I were chatting about random things, when suddenly, food was put in front of us. We very confusedly turned to the server and said it wasn't ours (it couldn't have been, as we had just ordered 2 minutes ago). The server let out an exasperated huff as if WE were at fault, grabbed the plates, and then stormed off. My friend and I were not too happy about that, but then another server made me change my mind about the service, because this server was cute, charming, and funny. He recommended a dessert to us and although it wasn't my type of sweet, my friend loved it, so it all worked out.
I also tried ratatouille for the first time here. It was... not bad? Just tasted like a lot of vegetables...
We had a lovely brunch with friends from out of town.
They were bowled over by the bloody mary options.
Good place, good food with a taste on morroco. We had a great moment There. They should Work a bit on their coktails
Rather speak to someone in real time.
Food and service was excellent.
Always fashion forward in vibe, BAR SIX redefines “delicious”!
The perfect lighting, decor and service is all... foreplay, to
drink and food that will ignite every meeting of minds and bodies.
CAUTION: You WILL NOT WANT TO LEAVE....
Great vibe and fun for date but very mediocre food the skate was best of our dishes that was decent
Terrible attitude from staff just as described
I sat down at the bar during happy hour because I had extra time before meeting a friend elsewhere. I had oysters which were delicious so I had another order of oysters. And they have my favorite, Plymouth gin.
I was so happy I called my friend and suggested she join me at Bar Six. I love Moroccan food.
I ordered chicken tagine, and it was dry. I don’t even remember my appetizer, but I do remember that the waiter brought the tagine before I finished it, and left me holding the appetizer while he put the tagine in front of me and left.
I was surprised at the poor service and disappointed in the food. Perhaps we antagonized the waiter in some way?
Really nice choice of food with Moroccan influence, very tasty and reasonably priced. While noise levels moderate, there is more ample seating than normal NYC restaurants, so very comfortable for conversation over leisurely dinner and NO rush in getting out. Definitely would go back
We love their brunch menu, and eat there often - we are not crazy about their other meals. Often it is chilly. Last Sunday it was punishingly cold. Most diners kept their coats on. If it is that cold again, we cannot return.
Had a lovely birthday celebration with family here recently and everyone enjoyed the meal tremendously. We had brunch and I can say the steak and eggs were great as were the waffles, burgers and omelettes. Our servers were attentive, accurate and brandished a sense of humor with our group. Will definitely go back!
We met for a preconcert dinner. We were seated immediately. Our waiter was charming and considerate. The service was timely. Dishes were well-prepared and nicely presented. Several menu items were unusual and enticing along with some standard bar burgers, all were well received. We enjoyed the meal and would gladly return.
I enjoy using this restaurant for both business-related meals and get-togethers with friends.
Pleasantly surprised with BarSix. Really great food, lively but cozy atmosphere. Great lighting and nice décor. Staff was attentive but not overbearing which allowed for an evening of long conversation with an old friend. Could also be fun for a date night. A neighborhood-y, quiet feel, tucked into a rather busy block which could easily have been passed by. Glad I didn't miss it.
great brunch, great place. i love the pancakes at brunch.
Bar Six is always a good choice. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and reliably good food. "Go to" dishes for my family are the onion soup, the kale salad, the tagines, the skate, merguez sandwich (!), and the burgers (beef and turkey) ... but everything there is good.
This place has been there for ever but continues to deliver good food and service at a very reasonable price. Making it a super place for the neighborhood. Great with a small group, or on your own - always made to feel welcome.
I've been to Bar 6 a number of times. Drinks and dinner are good, and especially like brunch. The Moroccan Bloody Mary was very tasty!
A very memorable dining experience, reasonably priced! Still under the radar, check out out soon!
Great service, great food. A classic! Love this place.
The food was pretty bad. Steak au poivre without poivre in sight yet bathed in a brown gravy. The meat (not even sure I'd call it steak) was so tough, cutting it gave me an arm workout, and then on several occasions I had to spit unchewable gristle back into the plate.
