About Bar Rosso
The restaurant has been totally transformed, sporting a dramatic two story high central dining area surrounded overhead on two sides buy a dining mezzanine overlooking the main dining area and on a third by a private dining room softened behind shaded glass. A dramatic bar of stainless steel set against a backdrop of exposed stone runs the length of the room and leads the eye to the real focus of the place: the imposing steel surround of the woodburning beehive oven. Rustic wood ceilings and exposed stone walls set against high energy glass and steel combine the old and new at Bar Rosso, setting the tone, reflecting the soul of the restaurant. Featuring glorious Italian cheeses and charcuterie, small plate specialties, mix and match bites off a large antipasto menu, wood oven thin crust pizza, homemade pasta and Italian inspired entrees, Bar Rosso is intended as a tour of the Italian culinary scene complemented by a full Italian wine list and cocktails inspired by the authenticity.

Bar Rosso Ratings and Reviews
Had a great meal here. Love the space and the food is very good. A little pricey for some items (e.g. $12 for a tiny serving of meatballs) but very fair for others like pasta and the kids pastas. Also nice that on Sunday night they do half off bottles of wine, although it took them time to track down the bottle we ordered. Our server was great though and more than made up for it.
Great food and overall positive experience. They messed up our appetizer and gave it to another table by accident so the table next to us got their food before us though we ordered first. Beside that, the bruchetta was great and the orchiette was perfect. I would eat there again. My husband loved the special which was a clam and spaghetti dish. The food quality and taste is superb. We would eat there again.
The food was better than I expected it to be -- I started with the shrimp and risotto and it was perfect -- the rice was tender and flavorful and the shrimp was well-seasoned. I had the salmon entree and it was also excellent -- very tender, nice serving. The asparagus was a bit tough (they were very large stalks). I would go back and would likely order the same thing.
The only reason this isnt all 5 stars was the slowness of service on Valentine's Day where the waitstaff seemed overwhelmed and the kitchen running behind. The amazing food made up for it when it came out at perfect temperature and taste (but then we were also starving, with an hour between ordering and being served). I put cozy and low noise but the tables are close together so you will be eavesdropping on the date beside you and vice versa. That kept us entertained actually, ha!
First time here. We ordered three appetizers to share which were more than satisfying for dinner, though the mussels, flavorful as they were, seemed a bit overcooked. We wished there were more vegetarian/pescatarian options as it seemed like many dishes included meat or bacon. It was comfortable, service was good, and we chose this restaurant for its convenience to the Avon Theatre.
We had dinner on a Saturday night with friends - the food was excellent, drinks well crafted, and service wonderful. The ambiance is more typical of a popular bar rather than a fine dining establishment and it got pretty loud which made conversation difficult.
This was a good meal and I would recommend the restaurant with caveats. We reserved through Open Table and that was terrific. Parking right across the street $5 was fine. The noise level inside was too high for comfortable eating and conversation. There was a small room to the side which had 5-10 tables and was quiet. It was not attractive for dinner but it suited the purpose. There were 4 diners and perhaps due to a party upstairs in the main restaurant (source of the noise?) the service was noticeably slow. However, the waiter(s) apologized profusely and on balance we felt there was an attention to our concerns. The food was prepared with care and was very good-the desserts especially so. The only down side was the caesar salad which was disappointing. I would recommend this restaurant provided the dinnertime encompasses the above.
What a surprise to find! I enjoyed the beet and almond salad with truffle cheese, and the lamb chop appetizers. My date had the bronzino. Very attentive service. Well priced. Agree with other reviewers that the TVs are not a welcome distraction. Sunday is half price wine night but we didn't know this until after the dinner 😣
I had eaten here once for Stamford restaurant week and I will not be returning because of the service. We were the only party in the restaurant at the time, about 8 people or so, maybe some people were at the bar? When we ordered our drinks the server brought out only half of the drinks, then after 15/20 minutes brought out the remaining. When we had some questions on the menu about what certain dishes contained he was unable to answer any of them and did not know what the ingredients were. Lastly, when we had finished a bottle of wine and requested another (we were still the only party in the restaurant) it took about 20 minutes to get. I would not complain if Bar Rosso was crazy busy and it was a super hectic night, but the fact that we received this kind of service on a slow night was disappointing.
Overall the food was great, but the service... not so much.
Each time we come back service and food is worse and worse. This time the waitress brought us a small pizza instead of the large one we ordered. She apologized and brought us another small pizza . When the bill came she charged us for two small pizzas which were more expansive than one large. When I complained she told me that what we actually ate. Won't be going back anytime soon.
Great restaurant, excellent and attentive staff. From the warm reception, all the way through the desert. Only drawback is the large TV over the bar. The ambience is lost when you're watching Prime Time TV shows (Wheel of Fortune, Diners/Drive-ins/Dives, etc). Perhaps some music videos or something that blends in. I did have a word, and the Asst Manager was more than willing to incorporate the feedback on the spot. And don't be fooled...the food and drinks are phenomenal! Ask for recommendations.
