Bar Primi is a great East Village move for a pasta-heavy group dinner.
It was a bit difficult dealing with this restaurant just because they wouldn’t seat us until each one of our party of 8 were present. Even when 6-7 of us were there they made us wait despite us wanting to order bottles of alcohol to drink at the table. Then when we were going to order wine our waiter was extremely annoyed that we couldn’t pick right away and kept coming back to check if we decided after only a few minutes. It seemed like they were trying to rush us out even when the restaurant was half empty. Lastly, we were a party of 8 and usually in nyc the gratuity is included but our waiter said that we had to call ahead and request that which we found a bit odd. Overall the service could use a lot of work but the food was very good. A bit overpriced for what we got.
We’ve eaten here many times, and this time the service was a bit rough. First, with a near empty restaurant we were seated next to a waiter station and cash register. We should have asked to be seated elsewhere. Next, our main courses arrived prior to our appetizer so we sent those back. No, apology from our waiter.....I doubt if they remade our mains so they sat under a heat lamp. They should do better.
Great restaurant with tasty and reasonably priced food. Plan to go again.
This was SO disappointing! We love the rest of this restaurant group and this was just an awful experience. The waiter could not have been less helpful. I ordered a pasta dish and they brought the wrong type of pasta. Additionally as a vegetarian I ordered vegetable sides, none of which ever came. We asked the waiter - he informed me vegetables take longer to cook than the meal (come on) and when everyone else was finished they still had not come. He did not care, did not apologize, nothing. He did remove the wrong pasta and vegetables from the bill when asked to. Will never go back.
Great Food! Great service! Really good pasta!
The food was very flavorful, but I think for the price, the portions are quite small. It was not as busy during the time we dined, but it seemed like the service was slow/unattentive.
I've been looking forward to coming here for awhile, I received a gift card for the holidays. I was a little disappointed on the seating of the restaurant, they seated us at a very tiny table which seemed to be placed there for the first time as it was in the middle of traffic. I ordered much anticipated Froze, just as the reviews said was small but it was strong and very tasty. The food I've been looking forward to via their social media was not found on the menu. The stuffed meatballs though were amazinggggg, just as reviews have stated though, very small portion. I wish it was bigger. Our meals also were so small. My dish was a bit too spicy for me, the bucatini.. I wish the waiter when I asked him for his recommendation, that he informed me of it being so spicy because I was not really able to enjoy it. Besides the small portions and spicy meal, the main complaint was the noise level. It was almost unbearable. I would return, but not on a loud Saturday night.
We love the food here, find it great value for NYC. Feel in love here so it holds a special place in our hearts
I saw Shawn mendes and it was my bday. Amazing night.
Outstanding service and delicious food
It's rare that a cool restaurant has food to match the hip vibe which is why we resisted trying Primi for a long time although it's in our neighborhood. It was a big mistake that we're so happy we remedied. We've eaten there twice in the past month and think it is now our go- to place for delicious, slightly unexpected pastas, interesting but unfussy salads and incredibly good desserts. Do not miss the almond cherry panna cotta!!! It would be a fun place to take a group because of the friendly vibe and menu accesible to both the daring and the timid diner. The staff, in their mixed plaid shirts, are smart, knowledgeable and efficient. We are pasta and italian food lovers who have eaten everywhere and this place has jumped ahead of many old favorites.
The pasta mains were quite good. Skip the mediocre arancini and the truffle-oil drenched burrata. Skip the bland tiramisu, too.
Always enjoy every visit to Bar Primi. Took my partner and and friend and we had an amazing time . This is by far my favorite Italian restaurant on the East Coast. One slight hiccup during service but that didn’t deter us from having an amazing experience as always. Looking forward to coming back soon.
Eating upstairs felt rushed.
It was amazing! Get the rice balls. The food was great and the service was impeccable.
This is a great place for a birthday meal. The server stayed on top of our lengthy meal, and was there whenever we needed her. The selection of antipasti and pastas was excellent, and the food is delicious. We also appreciated the well-made cocktails and wine by the glass selections.
Excellente qualité de la nourriture mais quantité faible par rapport au prix.
Amazing food, the asparagus was great. Nice wine, good service. A little pricey.
underwhelmed by the food. Got the special, pomodoro, cacio pepe, and ravioli. Meatballs were tough, not tender, salad was overpriced. I am not coming back.
They have a small menu but the food was amazing. Their drinks were good too. Service was perfect.
My $14 pasta dish was just noddles SOPPING in olive oil with a few thin slices of garlic, which provided minimal flavor. My $14 kale salad that I requested in a vegan version, which they confirmed they could do, was presented as a bowl of plain kale with minimal extremely thin sliced apples and not even dressed (was given on the side for some reason). Again, minimal flavor or appeal. I could have made the same meal for $10 at home—and better.
The Bloody Mary was below average. Despite the disappointing food. our service was great—but overall it was not worth the $40+ I spent.
The guys at bat primi have outdone themselves. Everything from the stuffed meatballs to the brucati was amazing! Would definitely recommend to friends and family
Service and ambiance are super. Food is good. 2 of our primi (we were 3 pwople) were a bit too salty.
Very spacious, good food variety
Great! Will return soon!
The handmade pasta road and filled with creamy artichokes then top with pancetta cream sauce was outstanding.
It was great!
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here! The starter ricotta cheese with hazelnuts on grilled bread was beyond fresh and delicious! We ordered the asparagus with truffles and egg and it was very tasty! the squid ink pasta with crab was outstanding and definitely a highlight. The best dish though was chicken limone. Full of flavor, the sauce was so good we could have finished it off with a straw! Light, perfectly seasoned and lemony as it should be. We passed on dessert but that as clearly as mistake as everything that came out was beautiful! We actually liked every one on the menu but we were too full to partake, definitely next time!
The food was fantastic and the service was great once it was received. I had a 9:30 reservation and waited nearly an hour to be seated. Luckily there was space at the bar and I was able to enjoyed a solid martini while waiting.
Bar Primi is a great West Village Italian restaurant for dinner. I came with a friend and we were seated pretty quickly. Our entrees took a bit of time to arrive (hence 4 stars instead of 5) but the waiter was very friendly, so it wasn't too bad.
Little frustrating reservation process. Checked in at 7:00, sat at the bar to wait for my table. Didn’t hear anything, so at 8:15, I decided to check in. Apparently there was confusion with other parties with my last name and they were seated before us. Strange....
I was hosting six people from around the world and needed great Italian food which would not break the bank. I picked Bar Primi based on descriptions of both food and service, but it was better than I could have hoped. I had to change the reservation several times and the staff was totally understanding. When we arrived, instead of making me feel guilty about it, they expressed pleasure we were finally able to make it. The bartender wowed the guests with creative ideas and, to have a little quieter area, we moved upstairs.
Appetizers, entrees and desserts were all just delicious, but Pasta is front and central. Extremely fresh and perfectly prepared, the sauces accent but do not overwhelm the pastas. I had both squid ink fusilli with crab meat, which I tried to stop eating but could not and also poached on my neighbor's penne which was even richer but totally different and no less delicious.
On top of all this, the service was beyond friendly at the same time it was meticulous and perfectly efficient. One guest, lifelong New Yorker said he can't wait to go back and another, from Sydney who travels constantly, said it was the best Italian meal of his life. A home run.
Service was slow.
Great service from Julieta, top notch pastas (all 3 we ordered) and a charming Kale salad, and felt at home as I always do at Bar Primi. Thanks!
Good location.Good down town/ European feel. Food quality high. Appetizers were super. Mostly pasta offerings for entrees. Service friendly but not attentive. Would certainly return.
I love this place.
Squid Ink Campanelle is incredible
Fam in town
The food here is wonderful, perfectly prepared and served... an informed, sensitive, attentive staff without hovering... its always a delight to come here... Colin, the Manager is always generous and gracious ... i highly recommend it... the music was a little louder and more monotonous than I prefer, but not to the point of a disturbance... A little jewel in the East Village.
