Bar Primi is a corner pasta shop devoted to ‘primi piatti,’ the pasta course. What began as an idea for a small space in New York's East Village has since become an essential in chef and co-owner Andrew Carmellini's range: fresh pasta traditionally prepared and cooked to order. At Bar Primi, the main course is Primi Piatti. We use a variety of non-GMO semolina and specialty ‘00’ flours, organic eggs and handed-down techniques to create our menu of Traditional and Seasonal pasta dishes. We make more than a dozen different shapes and styles daily. This includes lumache and rigatoni from our imported extruder or ravioli and mezzalune cut and filled by hand. Family recipes and secrets are traded between Carmellini and Brooklyn-born chef-partner Salvatore Lamboglia who also offers a daily meat or seafood special in addition to a selection of shareable Piccolini and Antipasti, artisanal cheese, salumi and simple home-style desserts.

As usual, the food was wonderful however we were not seated very close to a heater so we were quite cold (food got cold very quickly as well).

Fantastic outdoor setup during COVID times. We went on a cold and windy December night, but were quite warm in the space and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The pastas were excellent -- highly recommend the fusilli. And I love that they have Threes Brewing IPA as one of their craft beer selections. Service was excellent, and we loved our date night in every way (rare these days with two young kids). Highly recommend this spot

Great experience in 28 degree weather outdoor dining. Supporting our local restaurants in our neighborhood and Bar Primi is on top of the game!
The only thing missing from the menu was a hot soup..........just saying! :-)

Well located restaurant, with a bustling atmosphere. Decent choice of mains. We both had lemon chicken which was very good. For dessert, we split a delicious tiramisu. Nice place

The food was amazing. We sat outside due to Covid. Nice outdoor seating with lights and heaters made it comfortable despite chilly weather. Service was good, drinks took a bit long to get but other than that, everything was great. Would definitely go back.

The ambiance was phenomenal. From the lighting, to the atmosphere, candles, seating arrangement, and the bathroom. The food was average - nothing to rave about. The meatballs were a little dry, but the truffle bread was the best out of everything we got.

I personally disliked the food. Couldn’t find the harmony that is supposed to be created between the ingredients. It felt like everything was put on top of each other and hoped for the best. Ate 2 pieces of the beet salad, tasted empty. Had a bite of the hazelnut bread thing, truffle and honey together confused my taste buds. Lastly, cacio e pepe’s lack of taste had been tried to be compensated with high amounts of oil. Which by the wayhad to be made by another type of pasta, since they ran out of the original one. We were the second customer of the day, arrived at an empty restaurant, still took them 10 minutes to seat us. Didn’t have high hopes coming here, still left very disappointed.

The waitress was rude. Not only did she try and charge us for an extra drink. She didn’t both to split the wine on our behalf and asked us to do it ourselves and left the table without us telling us she was leaving.

I enjoyed the Veal very much. Only issue was that tables at this restaurant are pretty small. Would have preferred a bigger table instead of a round small table. I am 6'1 so I assumed the hostess would have realized that I needed a bigger table.

Will definitely return!
Got together here for restaurant week. Hostesses were friendly and immediately welcoming; bartender charming and had bar drinks list straight away! Sat next to a regular who was pleasant and talked about her favorite dish.
Once we three had all arrived, we were seated at a wonderful “u” shaped booth. Those seating arrangements are great for two or three tops btw: easy to look at your friends without having to raise your voice or feel like you are cowering over the table.
Our server was genuine and never hovering; always present. Took used plates and glasses promptly.
Now the food: we did restaurant menu this time: I loved the Cauliflower appetizer! Delicious flavor and generous portion. We also had the Burrata. A big serving with nice soft bread. Main course was the chicken mushroom masala with spinach. It was boneless and I cleaned my plate. Friend 1 had the spaghetti (a go-to, but nice!) and friend 2 had the white veal bolognese (like the lady at the bar; it had a solid reputation here and really good).
Dessert: I loved the panna cotta and we also had the gelato (almond). Great value for RW. First time going and I like the vibe. The seating is well laid out. The staff has plaid. So don’t wear it the night you go (joking!). First floor equally as vibrant and festive as second floor.
