   I got to the restaurant and it was SHUT DOWN. Literally boarded up. How is it that I could still make a reservation?! A little crazy if you ask me and threw a wrench in our plans.

   The wine list was interesting and there is a good selection of wine snacks and light food to eat while drinking wine. I enjoyed the rose I selected. I liked the cassoulet I ordered.

   Unfortunately they were out of 3 different wines that we wanted to try. It's a wine bar, so we were surprised and disappointed. We turned to cocktails but their cocktail menu was very limited.

   wild salmon was fried!! overcooked and totally dry! vegetable overcooked, swimming in oil!! serano ham was dry and hard and thick cut and could not bite it, like shoe leather. unacceptable food. Bartender did not offer anything, no apology nor understanding. Actually ignored me as a woman and just paid attention to my male friend who was happy with his steak. The guy totally respectless. The noise level in the little place too loud and tiring!!

    If you’re a big cheese and wine person, it’s not bad. But it is expensive and the portions are very small. Entree selection is very limited and pricey. I left unsatisfied and hungry, even after spending over $100 for a meal for two. Ambience was good but service was slow. There are better food options in Lakeview. I wanted to like this place since it’s so close to my apartment, but I won’t be going back.

    The cheese offerings were ok but not as good as several other restaurants featuring the same type of menu. Charcuterie also unimpressive but ok. The wine we ordered was very good. Service started out well but after food was delivered we never saw server and waited too long to get the check. The rest was not busy. 3 tables were filled.

    I think they need to get better wines for the yummy cheese they have. We tried 4 different wines (reds) and they were all pretty bad. The Malbec was the best of the lot and it wasn’t that good. Other than that, I think the prices are on the higher side for what you get - you don’t get value worth.

    We chose this place for National Wine Day. Started with an excellent Alsatian sparking wine, then ordered several 1/2 glasses of assorted wines, which I like all of. For food, we had a nice cheese plate and some olives for appetizers, then for my meal I had some pasta. All my food and drink were outstanding, my girlfriend's were hit or miss (but she's also pickier than I am). We got a great window seat, which was a little close to the next table but was fine. Service was pretty good too. I would definitely come back

    I previously had Enjoyed restaurant, but on my last visit the service is quite abysmal. Eugenie within half an hour or so to put in any order or have the waiter check back on us. The salad took over an hour to come out from the kitchen. Similarly, the cheese plate took 45 minutes to come out. Were there for two hours and never once offered to refill our water. Service was so slow the table beside us cleared and then after them two different parties sat down at the table but got up and left before they even came to get their order because they waited so long to acknowledge they were even there. Also bizarrely waiter was telling people that they had “run out of food” after we arrived so other guests were told they could not order any food. I would steer clear from here unless major changes take place.

    The food has become much less well-made, and of lower quality ingredients. The shortcuts have diminished the quality of the food and the service, and expectations that previous experiences at Bar Pastoral had led me to rely on were not fulfilled.

    We tried the raclette dinner for the first time. It was quite good & very filling. We didn't even ask for the free platter refill. We substituted the gouda brownie for the bread pudding dessert, and it was probably the best dessert we'd ever had.

    Overall, a very good experience. Would like to see more diversity in the entrees. The cheese and charcuterie selections are excellent, but entrée choices are limited. Always an interesting wine list.

    Great food, I live this place and have been many times. The only odd thing was that we arrived on time for our reservation and there was absolutely no one in there, but the server did not come over to get our drink order for almost 15 minutes, this was really odd because the were just standing by the bar talking to each ther the whole time? Otherwise everything else was perfect.

    This bar/restaurant never disappoints. I’ve been at least a dozen times and their wine selection is anyways superb as well as their cheeses. The waiters are also well educated on pairings and have wonderful recommendations. The small size of the restaurant gives it a cozy romantic feeling. I went here for my birthday and Valentine’s Day. Make sure to make a reservation if you have more than 2 people with you.
