Bar of America
We have enjoyed quite a few meals at BofA and this one was for my son’s 60th birthday. The staff was great about letting us add more people and the service was terrific.
The food was just bad. My rib eye was overcooked and tough...no juicy taste. Two of the filet mignonette were also overcooked and tough. One was brought back and was so salty it was not edible! The sliders, always a favorite, were like left over from lunch...overcooked and hard.
We were compensated by having the dinner deducted and the drinks were comped.
Sadly, it soured is on dining there again. It used to be great! What has happened??
Though I will be back for the poppers...those are awesome and I like the friendliness of the serving staff. Thanks
Enjoyed special of evening although not quite as described.Prime burger delicious but no bacon or avocado I. It? Still yummy. Beef and chicken entrees also very good!
Our food took forever to arrive, and finally did as the band started playing. That killed the dinner conversation.
Great food located in old town Truckee. Good sports in the bar area as well.
Great service from our waiter and everyone loved the food.
Appetizers were good. Cocktails were ok and dinner food was not good. Appetizers were the best part!!!
We liked this place very much and will definitely be back on future trips through Truckee. The menu choices were great and the food was excellent. Our server was not the greatest but in his defence I think he was being stretched pretty tight that afternoon. We were planning on going through Truckee for breakfast on our return home but are seriously considering waiting until lunchtime just so we can go here again.
This place gets busy on a Saturday night, but the service was very good. We had the fish and chips, the batter was a bit thick and oily and small pieces of fish. Was just ok. The poke nachos were flavorful, but could have used some more ahi tuna on them. The bison burger was really tasty, but a bit charred on the edges. The chicken Cesar salad came without the chicken, but the server noticed this, blamed it on the kitchen and brought out 3 skewers about 15 minutes later. The Cesar salad comes with sun dried tomatoes and capers, which is a bit strange and on long strips of romaine lettuce. The mixed drinks were good, though none are priced on the menu and the wine selection is good. All is all a good place to go, but rather pricey for a bar! Not sure if I’ll return.
First time there the burger was amazing!
We love the big bird- too bad that can’t be available at Garwoods
I’m disappointed and I won’t be back. We made reservations several days in advance. When we arrived our table was “being set up” and it was in the back, adjacent to the kitchen, even though the restaurant was not full and windows were open to a beautiful evening. My BBQ chicken was so dry that I couldn’t cut it. The vegetables accompanying it were delicious and so was my cocktail, but for a night out in a great town it really felt like a waste.
It was too loud and too dark. Our table was in the bar area and people we talking really loud over my head. Super unpleasant. And the food was way overpriced.
Always enjoy our experience at Bar Of America
Food is overpriced and nothing special. The kids meal was pathetic. My 6 year old ordered the macaroni and the serving was so small she was still starving after she ate it.
Yes with the expectation that it wouldn't be a quiet meal!
Risotto primavera not so good
Lovely place and awesome food but be aware of the close trains and horn blowing as it goes past. I still highly recommend it!!!
The best dish was the ahi tuna nachos. Granted, the Cobb salad and pepperoni pizza were okay...but nothing to scream about. Our waiter seemed like a "newbie", since there were so many errors with our drinks.
cocktails and mains seemed a overpriced. the food was good.
Great spot in Truckee Reno has a tough time competing with the overall experience this place has to offer well worth the 30 min drive.
I've been to this restaurant many times. One of the times I want to share with all is my husband was having surgery at a surgery center. He had to be transported to emergency and then ICU for a couple of days. After he was settled I went to dinner here. When I walked in I said to the host that I know in this day and age no one has the yellow pages but I needed to stay at a hotel due to the above circumstances. The host said go have dinner and he would take care of it. He brought me 4 pages of places to stay in Truckee. He went above and beyond and I'm sure his mother would be proud. Another thing happened I enjoyed the salad dressing a different visit and the waitress brought me a container with additional dressing to take home. She also gave me the email of the chef so I could ask him for the recipe. He provided me the ingredients although it was for 90 people I was able to find a site that can cut it down the home cook. I can't rave enough about the staff, food and what a special place this is. I hope you will get a chance to visit and experience it all.
Great food, great service in historic Truckee.
Food was very good, also loved the habiscus mojito.. favorite. Service was good... overall too pricey. Prices were more like those of nice steakhouse not a bar/grill.
Have been here 4+ times, every time it exceedes our expectations. Service is quite amazing & Speed of the kitchen, everyone is on top of everything! Not in Inexpensive - but for the quality and service worth every bit of it!
Very welcoming and a good local vibe!
Highly recommend! Teresa
Overall, it was pretty meh. Great vibe and people watching, but service was fairly slow and food is definitely overpriced ($46 for ahi tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes that were almost inedible because there was SO MUCH wasabi). Orzo was fairly bland as well. Would definitely go back for drinks / appetizers, but I think better food can be found elsewhere.
Nice atmosphere and good service. Food is innovative and the drinks will knock your socks off!
We had a great dining experience, great service, fun atmosphere.
Great waiter. Wonderful place. Best Old Fashion in California. Truffle fries and Poke natchos very good. Downside is margaritas not good at all.
Sat us in the annex, at a cold drafty table. Not what we wanted or expected. There were table is the main room and they declined to seat us there. The service was awful, the food worse. Been going to Bar of America since early 60's, in all of its variations. Have enjoyed them, all, except this one McDonalds is better
Bar of America has a fairly standard American menu that produces some pleasant surprises in terms of ingredients and preparation. This visit was to celebrate our anniversary, and it was on a quiet Wednesday night where we had the restaurant nearly to ourselves. We split a Caesar salad that was whole-leaf romaine lettuce with a fairly standard dressing, but with fried capers and sun-dried tomatoes, the salad was elevated from pedestrian to delicious. I had a wonderful rendition of seared ahi that was served with a cabbage salad that was reminiscent of kimchi and quite delicious. My husband had a beautiful filet mignon that was served with a lovely rosemary demi-glace. Our server, who was attentive and professional throughout the dinner, treated us to dessert for our anniversary. It was a lovely dinner. The restaurant has a nice space with a few outdoor sidewalk tables that are wonderful in nice weather.
our lunch courses were very good, but the service was terrible. It took 45 minutes from the time that
we ordered to get our food. We ordered dessert and that took over 30 minutes to appear. The hot
fudge sundaes were served in a milkshake class with the fudge on the bottom and then the ice cream.
We never had a hot fudge sundae served that way and it was not good. One of our party had the brownie with ice cream and he was unable to even slice the brownie - it was hard as a rock. I am not
sure if we will return after this experience
Mother’s Day weekend brunch
My husband and I had such a terrible experience having dinner here several days ago. The room that we were seated in had 2 tables of girls having a bachelorette party. One had maybe 6 and the other 12-14 people. There were other diners as well seated on the perimeter of the room. As, the evening progressed the bachelorette party at the larger table got progressively louder as more and more alcohol was being served, the alcohol was flowing. By this point the girls were not talking anymore they were screaming. There was no way at this point that my husband and I could hold a decent conversation. We are looking around the room and many of the other diners were starting to get agitated. Finally, the girls at the larger table got up and started screaming even louder without any regard to the other diners. I finally said something to several of the girls to please stop screaming and her response was she was going to scream louder. I explained they were not in a private room and they were disrespectful to us and the other diners. At that point I asked to speak to the manager not realizing he was right next to me in the doorway. I indicated the situation and he said yes the table was getting very boisterous as the alcohol flowed. During my conversation with the manager 2 girls came forward and started mocking me and the manager pushed them away from me. I said to the manager why didn’t any of the help ask them to please quiet down.:The manager indicated that he wasn’t aware. He must of known because he was standing in the doorway to the room and he had just said how the girls are getting louder as more alcohol was consumed. Several of the girls started mocking me and the manager pushed them away from me as words were exchanged. The manager was not very sympathetic, which was most likely because that table generated a lot of income from all of the alcohol consumption. Based on this experience we will not be dining here anymore.
Drinks and food were all awesome!
The service was on point. Their Manhattans are crave worthy.
Reliable good food and service. Nice beer selection. Love the live music. Don’t pass up the garlic fries. Chicken sandwich is delicious, crispy and juicy. Many good dishes!
Nothing to special food was Average at best
Excellent food and service. Very loud even in dining room.
Because of parking problems Friday evening, we arrived at 6:30 and the table was still saved, and the hostess knew who we were. Great salad to go with the pizza and beer.
The place is in a quaint location with huge windows for people watching. The waitress wasn’t the most friendly, but she was efficient in getting drinks filled and our order was accurate. The food is what had us sold! The stuffed jalapeños and wings were to die for! I’d go back again even though our waitress never smiled;)
Our waiter helped to make our meal at Bar of America even more special than it already was. Thank you.
