Bar Mingo Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I have eaten at both Bar Mingo and Cafe Mingo many times and we are rarely, if ever, disappointed. This trip was an exception, but only for the service. Our server was friendly and helpful, but he was just a little too “casual” in his demeanor and his actions. While telling us the specials he was twirling his wine opener and leaning on our table with both hands. When my wife questioned an ingredient in her food (that she is allergic to) he insisted she was wrong rather than double checking with the kitchen to confirm. This wasn’t all a huge deal, but not what we expect from Bar Mingo.
We love the food at this restaurant. The only problem is that the tables are so close to one another your conversation goes to the next table. The tables for two are so long that you need to raise your voice to be heard, therefore, your conversation goes to the next table and theirs comes to you. Not for an intimate conversation to say th least.
Risotto Wednesday at Bar Mingo has become a regular outing for us. Each Wednesday the chef prepares a different risotto, and they'e always good. This week's -- Nov. 15, 2017 -- had shrimp and calamari. So good. We agreed it was not only the best risotto at Bar Mingo, but one of the best meals we've had anywhere. The regular menu is good and the daily fish special is special. The vibe of the small restaurant is warm and inviting. And the service is terrific; if you're especially lucky you'll be at Heather's table. The best.
Started with the insalata for me, a tasty mix of lettuces with pear, candied walnuts, and blue cheese, and a nice vinaigrette, and the crespelles for him, delicious. The lasagne bolognese was excellent, and a generous enough serving to take some home. Finished with cappucino and pot de creme. Loved it all.
Excellent food. Excellent service. There are many additional choices that we would love to try on our next visit. This was our first time to dine at Bar Mingo, but it will not be our last. We have already recommended this restaurant to friends and relatives.
Thank you for a very enjoyable evening.
We really enjoyed our meal there. Unfortunately I had not booked as much time as we needed to have a leisurely dinner there and then walk back to the venue where we were booked for a performance. I really enjoyed the food, and I wish that we hadn't been so rushed. Service wasn't as quick as other restaurants we have been to, and they didn't ask or consider that we had to leave for a performance.
My boyfriend and myself had a very disappointing date night here. We made reservations prior to seeing a movie at Cinema 21. We allotted an hour and half for dinner. We arrived on time and sat there with our salad and wine for 45 minutes as we wondered where our food and server was. When we asked about the order we were told their printer or system was down. For those prices it would have been really nice to have had our wine or something comped. It's a competitive market and there are plenty of places that provide similar culinary experiences at comparable prices and better customer service.
Bar Mingo has an excellent chef, daily specials, and a rock solid menu.
Excellent Italian food & lots more.
My wife and I are spoiled ... we eat out l-o-t-s. Bar MIngo is a fave over the years because of its high quality in every respect.
Our most recent dinner was hosting friends visiting from another state.
They also loved it.
You can't go wrong at Bar Mingo
Delicioso! Started with the lovely caprese salad, heirloom tomatoes and house pulled mozzarella, followed by lasagne bolognese, a little bit of heaven. Pot de Creme and cappucino to finish. Brought half of the lasagne and pot de creme home for another meal (I will make the caprese).
Our first time at Bar Mingo to celebrate our anniversary and it was a pleasant experience. We sat outside because the a/c kept the inside of the restaurant very cold. We shared a caprese salad with heirloom tomatoes and house made mozzarella - fantastic! Loved the breads that came to the table for sopping up all the juicy goodness of the tomatoes. I had the vongole - wonderfully "clammy" but not overwhelming. My husband opted for the BLT because our server said that they only serve this during the summer when heirloom tomatoes are available. It was a little messy to eat but he loved it, especially the house made bacon which he said was much less salty that what you get at the store. We then shared my favorite dessert, affogato.
All around lovely evening!
Hmmm...seems to be raising prices but going downhill. Shrimp speidini used to be an appetizer with four shrimp for ...?...about $12 or less. (Can't recall exactly.) But it is now classed as an entree...PERHAPS they have added 1 shrimp (not sure), but now costs at least 25% more at $16. Though it is tomato season, the ones on the Caprese were pretty but tasteless. (Their winter Caprese, with slow-roasted tomatoes, is much better and they should leave it on the menu!) Risotto with corn needed to be a lot more complex, especially at $20, given the cheapness of the ingredients. Servers and bartenders are great, though!
Imagine this: THREE Italian restaurants in one block. THREE. All are popular and all are successful. This is the only one we go to and we consider this place one of our favorite neighborhood places. The chef owner is everything you could ever hope for. He's attentive, creative and he is there, cooking, every day. All of the front of the house people are professional and friendly, but we especially love Eugene and Heather.
Bar Mingo is a very reliable neighborhood gem. The food is always terrific and the kitchen and waitstaff can prepare just about anything a guest might enjoy. They are flexible with the menu and creative; everything is served hot and in a timely manner. The ingredients are fresh and locally sourced. Bar Mingo is one of our favorite spots to bring out of town guests.
My fiancé discovered this restaurant a few years back just as a walk in. We now make it a must visit restaurant every time we visit. The braised rabbit Papperdelle is exquisite, hearty and rich and delicate. We also tried their steak last visit, which was perfectly cooked. Pretty decent wine list. Have also been very happy with the service. Highly recommend.
