Overall the food just wasn’t that good. We had two dishes we enjoyed but two that we barely could finish. Sadly we won’t be returning.
Fantastic dinner-the food was exceptional and the service outstanding.
Perfect for Anniversary dinner
Food, service were great
Good food and good service. Nice range of menu options and daily specials. Always find something I'm excited to order.
Great experience at Bar Mingo - 2nd times the charm...went New Year’s Eve and the service was a little off, but NOT this time. The service matched the food this time - overall a great experience!! We will be back - our new Portland favorite restaurant!

Hats off to owner Michael Cronin + staff Sam, Gino, Jerry, and all all all of the other hard workers there.
Really good value for the meal. Drinks and Dinner with all considered was teriffic. 4 for dinner and we had to make the play at 7:30. No problem. Service was exceptional. Reservation honored and excellent window table. Will do again in near future
Very nice evening. Nice table, good food.
Fantastic Food! Service just a bit off, lacked the attentiveness at this price point.
Food was good our server acted like he didn't want to be there. Didn't check on us once.
The food and service were excellent. Bar Mingo has never disaapointed.
Calamari first course was outstanding...perfect seasoning; cooked just until warm and tender. Freshly made pasta cannot be beat..we tried 3 different options and all were superb. Swordfish special was delicious but we also swooned over the sautéed spinach accompaniment. This kitchen is skilled in its seasoning technique. Service was practiced, proficient, attentive and friendly. The wine list offers a nice variety of Italian and domestic varietals. Everything we tried was terrific. We will return!
The lasagna is the best I've ever had. The lamb shank and risotto were lip smacking good. Our only criticism was the scarcity of the rabbit ragu with the tagliatelle. More bunnies? The waiter ran next door to Cafe Mingo when their Brunello de Montalcino ran out. That was very service oriented! I prefer Bar Mingo's menu to Cafe Mingo's. Sorry Mike.
I have been to Bar Mingo quite a few times, both for happy hour and regular menu. Both have been great.
Good and service is excellent.
My son came from out of state and I wanted to take him to my favorite restaurant He loved it!
Consistently well prepared and flavorful food . Excellent choice for dining out.
The fish and pasta were expertly prepared. We enjoyed the cheese plate selections and bread very much. The profiteroles were outstanding, and a decadent finish to an enjoyable evening out. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions. We will return!
We 45 miles from Portland so we don’t get to eat here often but consider it one of our favorites! Great food and service!
Being totally Sicilian I’m a very critical judge of Italian and Sicilian cuisines and proud of it. Everything we ordered was outstanding and we ordered big there was no big explanation about the entrees which I prefer let the food speak. The service was outstanding and the kitchen was on the job our food was served hot and in a timely manner. A huge plus they have Cannoli on the menu and that is a very dangerous endeavor with me San Francisco has great Cannoli and these were very close in quality. Highly recommend this establishment cannot wait to return.
Bar Mingo is always delicious, and Heather is wonderful.
I loved the combination of really good food and really good live music! I can’t wait to go back!
Bar Mingo never disappoints. The crowd this time was louder than usual but still had a great time with family with wonderful food. Starting with crusty bread with amazing olive oil and salt. The brussel sprout salad special was delicious. We each ordered a separate pasta dish and shared bites. All yummy, especially the gnocchi!
This was our first experience at Bar Mingo, and the entire experience was top-notch. From the moment we entered the establishment, the people were friendly and welcoming. The ambiance was lively in the establishment. There was an informal feel but that is what made the food taste better and the dining experience so positive.
Another fantastic dinner! Thank you to Heather and Sam and Jerry!!!
We’ve eaten at most of the Portland hotspots and this is one of the best. Service is top notch, food is outstanding, nice ambience and lots of attention to detail. Vincenzo made us an awesome Italian meal and his years of experience in Italy clearly shows. Highly recommend Bar Mingo!
Have been to Bar Mingo many times. Always go there when I have special occasions or great friends I want to treat to an amazing time. As usual, food was awesome, Patti is a terrific server, and three people I took who have never been there were blown away by the awesome food, service and atmosphere. I have never had a poor experience here and the food quality is unmatched and consistent every time. Highly recommend it. Chicken Livers, Shrimp Speidini, Tagliatelle with Rabbit, and Gnocchi are sure fire dishes certain to please the most discriminating guests. The bread is also fabulous.
We have been going here for years. We bring our friends and family and always have great food. One of our favorites!!
The food is more than worthwhile--large portions of excellent quality. The service is adequate and the prices are reasonable. The largest negative for old folks like me is a noise level that makes conversation difficult at least on a busy Saturday evening.
yes I would 100% recommend Bar Mingo to friends. great food and great people that take care of you!
Simply delightful. The Millionaire Manhattan infused with figs and vanilla and antica carpano was exceptional. We started with the mushroom Crespelle, which was my favorite of all the exquisite dishes we had, we shared a chopped salad and split two entrees. The server was excellent. This is one of my favorite places in Portland. I cannot wait to return.
Great waitress who allowed our son to join. Food was its usual great.
We love everything about Bar Mingo - the food, the ambience, the service - all fantastic! Best lasagne bolognese anywhere.
A delightful dinner with 2 friends, who had just returned from Italy. We shared the calamari, the clams, and the salad from the Happy Hour list. All so good! And paired nicely with a bottle of Tuscan Vermentino. For the main course we all ventured onto the Specials board: I went with the Steelhead with a Dill Salsa Verde accompanied with sauteed spinach and potatoes, they had the special pasta a Cappellacci stuffed with Butternut Squash, Amaretti, and Pecorino de Fossa cheese and served with a creamy sauce with prosciutto and radicchio. WOW!! Service was attentive, amiable, and impeccable with timing. We topped it off with an Almond cake and espresso. Perfecto! So glad Bar Mingo is my neighborhood joint.
Exceptional service, attentive and friendly staff, personal touch from the owner. Great room, great ambiance, perfect meal right before our movie
Love this place! Great food and a good list. Ordered a bunch of the small plates and had the rabbit pasta for main course. Everything was exceptional.
Very comfortable small restaurant with some really terrific food. Smoked trout salad and chicken livers were outstanding first courses -- highly recommended. Pastas were very good -- pappardelle with rabbit and spaghetti a la vongole, as was the almond torte. Wines are offered by the glass, quartino (a couple of glasses -- good deal if you are both drinking the same thing), and bottle. Service is warm and competent, although I fault them a tiny bit for not offering to tell us about the specials (and I didn't think to ask). Will definitely return.
A delightful evening at Bar Mingo with an old friend. We've know each other 20+ years and watched the Portland food & culture scene change so much in that time. How great that the consistency of great restaurants on this block on 21st has stood the test of time.
Amazingly, she has never been to Caffe Mingo or Bar Mingo even though she lived in the neighborhood for a few years.
We first received a special treat from the kitchen and were recommended a lovely bottle of Tuscan Vermentino to accompany our happy hour/dinner.
The calamari appetizer was delicious, tender, and perfectly spiced. Next we shared the Cacio e Pepe that was just the right amount of al dente yet creamy. Next we had the special of sword fish with a chunky verde sauce accompanied with green beans and potatoes. We asked to sub sauteed spinach for the pots and it was no problem! We finished with the almond torte and some espressos.
Our server Eugene was thorough, knowledgeable and timed our dinner perfectly, we didn't feel rushed or dragged.
It was the first Sunday night so there was jazz music and there was a nice buzz of people conversing and enjoying the entertainment.
