Bar Marmont Ratings and Reviews
The food and atmosphere were great...service not so much. You can definitely tell they prioritize regulars and those with a certain "look." Next time I would rather just hang and drink at the bar rather than getting a table and a server who only checks on you when you flag them down because the music and atmosphere actually were really good.
A terrible place; old, run down, gaudy, uninviting ; verry small drinks(half a martini). Food took forever and then it was not the way my husband ordered it. Meanwhile we sat alone in a corner. It's the Bar of Chateau Marmont yet it is in another building - a weird place - never going back there!
2 out of 3 people received entrees. 20 minutes later, 3rd guest still had nothing. 30 minutes later guest received a flimsy entree with completely undercooked potatoes. Awful. Unaccommodating staff. We were told we were getting a free dessert. We advised that we were getting a free entree and a free round of drinks. They finally obliged. Never again. Not to mention we were surrounded by the douchiest patrons ever!
An amazing place, old Hollywood at its finest. I could've done without the picture of Ho Chi Minh greeting me at the check-in counter though. As the son of a man who was killed in the Vietnam war I found it very tacky. Maybe a picture of Hitler next time? Or Osama bin Ladin? But other than that, it was a great experience.
Thought we would check out this lesser version of Chateau Marmont. Furnishings are old and unsuitable for even sitting. Drinks were poorly made and received a half pour of champagne. Ordered calamari and caprese salad. Possibly the worst food we've ever tasted. We won't be going back...ever.
If you like poor service to go with your mediocre food this is the place for you. But first you have to take 45 minutes to park your car since the paparazzi are there waiting reprobates like Courtney Love. Then you walk in to reservations that management says they can't accommodate because you are late. But for all this hassle you have the honor of getting served over cooked food from a sassy waitress with more tatoos than an NBA bench warmer.
This was one of my worst dining experiences ever. The maitre'd could not have been more rude. When we arrived the dining room was mostly empty, however the maitre'd said we could not sit there, but we could eat in the lounge area. We opted to eat at the bar. After drinks, dinner, and desert at the bar the tables in the dining area were still empty.
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles, however due to this experience I will never return.
The drinks were good, the Small Plates were good, dessert was good, service was good. The dinner entrees were bad. I ordered scallops - they were so salty, I couldn't finish more than two. I left the rest on my plate. My friends ordered burgers which were also super salty when we compared notes. Salty burgers? No bueno. We didn't have a chance to compare notes at dinner since we were with clients, but in retrospect I wish I returned my dish to the kitchen. The rest of the food was good.
Bar Marmont is far under expectation, foremost, the food. Appetizers were great, even almost outstanding. Cocktail was so soft that we thought our drinks were virgin. Main course, was at the level of a KFK meaning zero sophistication and interest. This is not what you expect from such a place. To ends with, we though we could move to Chateau Marmont for a last drink. The called and this was not a possible option.
A fair evening, no more with a disappointed meal.
Cool spot, but a bit too dark. i could barely read the menu. The service was great and was pretty empty when we arrived (went to dinner Monday night at 7:30pm) but started filling up when we left around 9:30pm. Had friends from Australia in town and wanted them to go to a chill spot on Sunset Blvd.
Food was mediocre at best, service was very good and friendly, valet price is insulting, atmosphere was fair, been here once before, returned per out of town guest's request, would never go again. Los Angeles has too many other places to offer for the price.
The food was mediocre at best. Nothing tasted good and basically was a waste in every sense. My salad was a bed of uncut romaine lettuce leafs with few slices of avocado on the bottom, it was like a bad joke. The calamari tasted really nasty too. Don't bother ordering food just stick to drinks here only.
I came here with a friend to celebrate my birthday. Our server was very knowledgable and helpful with all of our selections. She was present, but not overbearing. The side dishes were great (but pricey), and the wine was sensational. I had a Gazpacho w/ 4 shrimp, plus some fries, and my friend had oysters plus a carrot pancake special, which she said was excellent.
Per its reputation, Bar Marmont is a high-end experience for those looking for a good time. The space is intimate and very chill. We made reservations, and were able to take our time and enjoy the evening. The main bar was pretty packed for a Thursday night.
I recommend for special occasions.
On a recent LA visit we sampled some great food in WeHo, and bar Marmont was one of the highlights. Food was creative, my wife had a savory tomato tart, and I had the smoked trout appetizer on potato. Both were delicious. The main course was equally as good. My wife had the fettuccini in a lamb bolgonese. Service was acceptable, and the ambiance was memorable. The bar has a rich history, and it was great to experience the quality.
My wife and I had good reason to celebrate, and Bar Marmont has figured into some of our past celebrations. Good for a quiet, romantic celebration, with an understated but eloquent atmosphere. The drinks are made with a generous pour, and they know how to make a gin martini without ruining it. Best bets on the menu are bar snakes, appetizers and small plates. Skip the hanger steak - a good cut of meat, but very little of it with a cloying sauce. If you want a sit-down dinner, better to go to the dinning area in the hotel. For lunch, perhaps by the pool at the hotel. However, for an evening of celebration, the bar is the place to be.
We had a hostess and waitress who were not friendly. We were seated in the very back corner at a wobbly table. We are not from California and this was a once in a lifetime trip.We were asked if we wanted water ,when we said yes we were asked if we wanted pellegrino. We said yes , we enjoyed it, but would not have ordered it at $8 a bottle. We then did like anything that was on the menu for appetizers as that was what we were there for at 10:30 at night. We ordered a spicy chicken wing. You could smell it all the way to the table. It tasted disgusting. We had two both had a specialty drink.I liked mine my daughter didn't like hers.So for $50 I got a bottle of Pelligrino, one drink, lousy service, lousy food and a true ONCE in alifetime experience.
Rarely do I give 5 stars but this place deserves it. The service was top notch. Our server Natasha was friendly, helpful, and attentive. The food was tasty, inventive, and served promptly. The cocktail list aimed high--with a mix of old school offerings and new recipes--but it delivered. I tried the Millionaire and Ginger Rogers and both were great. The play has a energetic vibe and a nice Old Hollywood feel. I had drinks here years ago but would now recommend the place as a restaurant as well.
