Hosts were rude and did not greet us, waitress was very quick and dismissive and not friendly (it was not busy in the restaurant either). Food (garlic shrimp especially) was subpar for tapas. I expected better and was disappointed. Will be going to other tapas places from now on.
the seats we had were perfect for talking. sangria was great. it is a good date spot. one of my favs
I love the music, food, decoration and romantic Spanish ambiance!
I've only ever eaten on the patio and BarLola, and if you get a table there, you're in for a real treat. You feel far away from the hub bub of Comm. Ave. The food is quite good - a mixture of Spanish and American tapas. I recommend the mushroom ravioli, even though it's not an authentic Spanish dish. The red sangria is also good.
Spent the day in Back Bay with a most lovely woman. Wanted to do something different for dinner, tapas was the idea and a very good one. We shared three tapas plates, all quite tasty and of good size. Attentive service, we ate on the early side so a small crowd, not too much noise. By the time we left, the crowds started to arrive, still a nice scene! Will be back, with a bigger appetite next time!
Nice service, extremely noisy to the point where I couldnt hear my husband
There was a vibrant bar scene when we came in for our dinner reservations but our waitress seated us in the adjoining room, which had a cozy and romantic feel to it. My boyfriend and I ordered a host of tapas to share including the empanadas, duck and paella which were our three favorites. We would definitely come back on our next visit to Boston
This is one of the authentic Spanish Tapa restaurants in Boston. Having lived in Spain for 8 years, I can say the food is truly Spanish. All of the tapas are tasty and we'll described on the menu. The only item I had an issue with was the size of the Paella. It would be great if they had it as a non-tapa sized dish. Rather, a full sized paella would be great! However, the dish, while tapa size, was great! Our server was awesome and worked hard to get our orders and drinks to us!
Everything was lovely, and the food was excellent.
Hostess was no where to be found for first 5 mins or so. But after that initial bit of slowness, service turned out to be good. Lamb chops were amazing. BarLola's house red sangria went very well with the food.
So happy with the food and the service this time. The Flamenco Show was simply amazing. I can't wait to get some friends together to visit this place again.
Came here after a full day of theater and walking around Boston. We had been here before and we're so excited to try items on the menu that we hadn't tried. We started out with a crostini, which paired well with the tequila drinks. We then had chicken skewers, meatballs, and the dates, which are always a must. Great service - very attentive. Restaurant was quiet for a Saturday, but lots of customers chose to sit outside on the patio - I thought is was too hot and muggy for that. Food was prompt and tasty.
We are very partial to tapas style dining. Customarily, tapas servings are small, one expects that. However Bar Lola had the largest portions I've ever been served in a tapas restaurant. The Spanish Cava was excellent and well priced. Overall it was a bargain for a Boston restaurant.
It was my first time at Bar Lola and was very impressed. The drink menu was creative and delicious, also loved that they added sangria to a lot of their martinis. The tapas food menu was great and there was a lot of variety. The only downfall was that they seemed to close early for a Saturday night. We were told that last call was at 12:30am but they were basically forcing us out of the door before then. With that being said, I will most likely return to Bar Lola due to their food menu and delicious drinks.
A wonderful selection of tapas, seafood, meat, vegetarian -- a small-plate lover's paradise, with a nice cocktail list and a good variety of Spanish wines. The room was comfortable and the service friendly and helpful. The sangria was popular although we didn't have it. I was disappointed there was no sherry list. I would, however, return. The calamares rellenos (stuffed squid) was memorable, as was the simple manchego and serrano ham and the albondigas.
probably the worst tapas I ever had, but great outdoor patio and reasonable prices.
I came here for the second time after having an amazing first time experience here on my last trip to Boston with a friend. This time I wanted to show my husband how amazing this place was. It was perfect as they had Flamenco Sundays and would add to our romantic date. We ordered five plates between the two of us and I really have to say that the food has gone way way down. The arancinis weren't even crunchy. Some of our plates were overcooked and soggy. It wasn't satisfying at all and for the price... well, it just wasn't worth it. We passed on dessert. What a disappointment after years of talking up this place to my husband. Sorry, but I won't be recommending this place anymore to friends visiting Boston.
We went at 6:30 on a Saturday and the inside was empty. It started to fill out as we were finishing up. The food was good, but the waitress was not too friendly and not helpful when we asked about which tapas were popular.
I didn't like the service, they care forever to take care of you.
Their paella is no even close to real paella. It's basically yellow rice with some seafood. Disappointing!
Great food and ambiance. I did not know the place has been there for more than 1 5 years.
Bar Lola offers a wide variety of delicious tapas as well as Paella.
The place was recommended by a friend and unfortunately it was one of the worst in Boston. The food was average, the service was poor and the service staff is not professional, the patio was supposed to stay open until 11:30, the staff start packing and drag tables and chairs around at 10:45, made the "ambiance" very uncomfortable.
This was our first time at Bar Lola. We love eating outside. Enjoy tapas because we like to try different things. We ordered five things for two of us which seems about right. Everything was good but I wish it was delivered one or two at a time so that we'd have time to enjoy it while it was still hot (although the shrimp was really hot and stayed hot the entire time). Particularly enjoyed the sangria and the paella.
You'd think outdoor dining right on Commonwealth Avenue would be ideal but the patio is subterranean and lacks any finishing character. The tables turned over frequently and the place has a real buzz as a result of its location. There were families as well as young professionals. The saving grace was the food. We had a series of small plates all of which were fresh and good tasting. The ingredients aren't original but you'd eat here happily. The low point was the service which was diffident at best. I'd recommend Bar Lola if you want to get a couple of well-made drinks and an appetizer. It isn't really a dining experience.
I enjoyed my visit to Bar Lola but was a quite bothered by the service rendered by the seating hostess on the evening my friends and I were there. I'd made a reservation through Open Table but when I arrived, she placed my friends and I at a tall table by the bar (the dining room was nearly empty). We did not receive service for 15 minutes and were considering leaving. My friend finally stood up and asked the seating hostess why no one had taken our drink orders and she took them.
We later discovered that the bar area is served only by the bar tender. But he'd looked out direction several times and never offered service. After all of this, we asked another service (who was very gracious and attentive) to move us to the main dining room. We received good service there.
When I asked the seating hostess why she had not explained the bar set-up or even seated us there, she walked away and ignored me.
It was not pleasant, especially considering that it was my birthday dinner. I did not appreciate her dismissive air nor her apparent lack of basic training on how to interact with patrons.
I love to go on Sunday evenings for the Flamenco show. How can you go wrong with Tapas . aThe food is wonderful and the ambience is vibrant, fun and energetic. The initmate setting is fantastic for the show. I will happily return again and again..................ole
Very good. Had many different tapas all of them were good. Attentive server and well proportioned drinks. Been here before and will continue to come back
Bar Lola is nicely situated on Commmonwealth Avenue in Back Bay. It would be ideal for outdoor dining. Nicely done tapas dishes and some nice cocktails. Bar Lola also features dancing on most nights and live music. Excellent service on a relatively quiet evening. Worth trying for sure.
This was my first time here, and I loved it! I went for my birthday celebration in a group of 6. The servers were so courteous and brought out the tapas in waves, fresh, hot, and still sizzling. The food was to die for. They even brought me a delicious brownie sundae and sang to me for my birthday, all unexpected free of charge! I'm definitely going back.
Tapas were ok. Not great, but not bad.
Sangria was delicious but very weak.
Got very loud later in the night.
It is a hole in a wall. But the food is fantastic, such a hidden gem!
Got together with out-of-town high school friends and had a fantastic meal. We ordered a few pitchers of the red house sangria which had a decent punch to it. Each pitcher filled about 4 glasses so it came down to 7.25 per glass. The tapas were all delicious too. Overall, the meal came to just under $40 per person for 6 people, tip included.
The food was great. Atmosphere was great. Would definitely return
BarLola has become my go-to restaurant for group dinners, especially when someone is visiting from out of town. It's never too hard to get a reservation (even last minute), the service is always good, the atmosphere is cool and, most importantly, the food (and drinks) is delicious for a great value.
We were seated right away at a lovely table for 4 right by the window. Our waiter promptly came over and recommended a drink for us based on our preference of liquor - an excellent choice of tequila and sangria. We ordered 4 plates from the menu, which came out very quickly. After waiting a bit, and ordering another round, our waiter helped us pick out 4 more plates and, again, was spot on. Everything we had was superb - need to go back soon to try out more options.
The service at Bar Lola was horrible. Our food came 80minutes after we had ordered and the drinks were watered down and sugary. The food was good but to wait 80 minutes in a practically empty restaurant was not worth the food quality. Skip this place -- there's too many options in Boston to sacrifice a meal with bad service!
Food was amazing and so was the ambiance. The place is small but well worth it. We ordered like 5 tapas which was enough for 4 since we were heading to a lounge right after. The server could have been a bit friendlier, but maybe he was tired (we were there at 10pm so maybe he had a late shift.)
Great location ... Awesome ambience ... Food needs some work (Tapas meets fast food Chinese) ... Service was weak .. Sunday night Flamenco show is worth checking out over a nice cocktail, wine or Sangria (all of which are better than the food)
My friend and I went here for dinner because we were making last minute reservations, but it was amazing!
One thing - make sure to say what size portion you would like if there is a small and large option.
