Bar Italia Ristorante
We can accommodate large parties as well. Parties of 8 or more please call in for reservations.
Bus stop near by.
Amazing variety in a relatively short (thank heavens!) menu. Our young (25-30?) server had an amazing knowledge; his dissertation on pasta sauces was a real surprise! The service was prompt and the pasta properly al dente. Will have to come back (something we seldom do) to sample some of the other temptations on the menu.
Food was great; service by Maya H was very poor; her insincerity & lack of attention was below expectation for Bar Italia which I often enjoy as a neighbor resident. Very disappointing service for a good restaurant
I am not a huge seafood person and I do not eat red meat, so finding something off the menu was a bit of a stretch. I asked about a cheese tortellini, as it was not on the menu, and the waiter was able to offer it to me off of the lunch menu. My husband ordered a shrimp risotto which was pretty good. The tortellini was okay, nothing to write home about but the atmosphere was great. We sat outside on a nice night and enjoyed a great variety of cocktails off the menu. We had made reservations online, but they wouldn't have been needed for a Friday night.
Bar Italia is a consistent favorite for us. The food is always top notch and the patio dining is beautiful. If squint, you can imagine that you're dining in a small town in Italy, rather than in the heart of the Central West End. The food is authentically Italian and we always run into our wonderful neighbors when we visit. It's a great place!
We love the Central West End and we love the patio at Bar Italia. I had the pasta with scallops and shrimp, which was delicious. My son had the pasta bolognese, which was also very good. Our server could have been a little more attentive, but it is such a beautiful setting so we were in no hurry.
Beautiful patio!! Food was nothing out of the ordinary service so-so and probably won’t return anytime soon but a lovely setting.
Food was delicious and server was excellent! Loved the outdoor patio seating!
The food was excellent, I mean really good and they have exceptional pricing for the quality of the food. It just seamed that our server was a little overwhelmed and had too many tables so the service was 20% slower than it should have been.
Lovely salad and pasta. Steak came well done not medium rare, but was redone for both of us and to help make up for the mistake we were given tiramisu deserts. Chef came out with an apology. When given the specials remember to ask the price. The steak was suprisingly expensive at $38.00
Bar Italia is one of our favorite spots in St. Louis and in the Central West End (CWE). This is for numerous reasons. Although we also enjoy indoor seating, the patio is divine. This is probably the most delightful patio in the area. It is so very special and a great place to spend a date night or special occasion. On this particular night, it was a bit noisy with a special CWE happening. It wasn't terribly noisy, though, and usually it is quieter and more conducive toward easy conversation. Service is always good - there are always familiar faces and all service staff care very much and work really hard. Most of all, the food is exquisite. It is healthy, delicious, fresh and reasonable. There are tons of choices - something for everyone. I highly recommend, as you'll not be sorry.
Wonderful al fresco birthday meal with friends on the lovely back patio. Lovely wines perfectly paired with delicious and fresh fare. Everything was absolutely delightful! And the expresso martini is NOT to be missed - best in town!
The patio was great, but the food was bland and nothing special. Drinks are great! Service was just okay. They kept taking away our silverware, but didn’t replace with the next course.
Most of the food was delicious. The bacon was rubbery and very salty. The portions were pretty small for the prices. I thought overall it was overpriced. The waitress was polite and kind, but she didn't come around very much, however, it was Mother's Day, so she was probably very busy. The woman who brought our food (not the waitress) was rude. Great people watching.
Good first experience. Will go back
Very nice atmosphere. Came for our anniversary dinner and enjoyed it thoroughly. Liz was our hostess and did a fabulous job. Timing of the appetizer and salad and the entrees was perfect.
It was a beautiful night and sitting out on the patio was splendid. Enjoyed ourselves immensely.
This place is everything one could want when choosing a place for dinner! The food is delicious and the whiskey sour was amazing!! Not to mention the owner takes the time to visit the table to check on things or chat if you feel like it. I can’t wait to go back !!
Outside seating was awesome, food and service was great! We took family from out of town and they loved it too!
Food was fantastic and portioned perfectly. We sat on the patio and it was beautiful. However, we waited 30 minutes for someone to even come up to our table with water. We never were asked how our meal was until they took our plates upon finishing. We were handed the bread and olive oil at the same time as our food was brought out. Overall the food was great, the atmosphere was great, but the service was terrible and made for an unpleasant birthday dinner as we spent more time trying to flag down a waitress than we did talking. They did not mention happy birthday although we made our reservation and told them it was a birthday dinner. The tables around us were also unhappy with the service. We would’ve asked to speak to a manager but it wasn’t worth wasting more time and making the birthday dinner even more unpleasant. I will my be returning as there are MANY other fabulous Italian restaurants in the STL area!
Best patio in town. Best coffee drinks in town. Wonderful food. Close to authentic Italian
The chef was kind enough to change the dish for me to include some vegetables (mushrooms and spinach). The fettuccine was delicious! I would recommend for a Sunday brunch option for sure!
Excellent food, outdoor seating, pleasant surroundings.
The sauvignon blanc by the glass was not a sauvingon blanc!, but they were nice enough to substitute at no extra charge.
We have loved dining at this place since the eighties, when it was in the "old location". Excellent food and wine choices and also great service. Casual, but fine stuff!
We needed change for a parking meter and they wouldn’t do it so we had to beg passerby’s. It was very irritating and wasted 5 minutes
Nothing wrong with our experience… Waiter and other servers were very nice. Ambience was the way it has been for 30 years there. Nothing bad, nothing special. Food was average. It wasn’t expensive; about $20 for an entrée. I like supporting small businesses and unique experiences, but I would have rather gone to the cheesecake factory.
Wonderful food, wonderful drinks, very cool set-up! I would definitely go again!
Average service, food, decor and atmosphere.
We had a veal entree and a mushroom pasta. The veal was delicious, probably the most tender and flavorful cut a veal that I can remember eating. The mushroom pasta had a subtle, earthy flavor and the rigatoni was cooked perfectly. The cocktail menu had some intriguing options and there was a solid beer selection. I did not review the wine list, but I don't consider myself qualified to rate the wine list anyway. Our server was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was quiet and classy in the bar area, almost with a Moroccan feel.
Great dinner, very friendly staff. Very nice dinner . Loved special cocktail > Exspresso Martini
Enjoyed meeting the owner who took some time with us. He answered our questions concerning Ethiopia/Eritrea and was most helpful with the language. It was most rewarding for my sister, a speech pathologist, who is treating a young man from Eritrea who is apraxic and has extreme difficulty initiating speech. Thank you
Consistently yummy. Exceptional, professional service. Great atmosphere. Family friendly.
Another holiday and another terrific brunch at Bar Italia. The brunch items were terrific. Nobody makes a better Eggs Benedict or Steak and Eggs...three of us ordered the latter...it's that good.
Tortellini might be the best in St. Louis. And the espresso martini is too good to pass up.
Desserts punctuated the perfect Easter meal.
Great food as always. Nice night out with my high school senior daughter.
Bar Italia is a place I would recommend because it is so accommodating. The server we had was very knowledgeable about the menu and pleasant. The ambience was very quiet and romantic. The pricing was reasonable. I would recommend as a appetizer the goat cheese.
We were in search of a spot to dine before Jazz at the Bistro that had a nice selection of seafood as a couple in our party of 4 were observing "no meat on Friday for Lent". We were thrilled with the great snapper special as well as the yummy scallops with pappardelle and seafood pasta. The salads were fresh, perfectly dressed and delicious. Our server couldn't have been more helpful and got us served and out of there right on time to make the show. Bar Italia is a well kept secret in the CWE.
Delicious meal and creative cocktails. We found this restaurant online and were very pleased with our choice.
Waiter and kitchen don't seem to communicate too well, but the food was good and all turned out nicely.
Great place!! Great food!!!
Two of the three entrees were outstanding. The third -- mushroom rigatoni -- was a bit bland.
Great Experience! The owner and staff were very personable. Extremely positive experience
