Bar Italia Ristorante
We can accommodate large parties as well. Parties of 8 or more please call in for reservations.
For more than 20 years, Bar Italia has been outstanding. It offers top notch dining in a perfect location for a special event, a friends dinner, or to impress out of town business guests. Never disappointing!
We had a table of 5 on Saturday night. Two wine orders were wrong, and the server had to come back multiple times to repeat our food orders. Of the 5 dishes, 3 came out cold, one was undercooked (the risotto special) and only one was good. Given the other choices in the area, I’d never make a repeat trip to this place
I can understand why they have been around for 35 years. Solid.
The wait staff was attentive. We stayed longer than most at our table, as we were celebrating a birthday. Food was great; try the pasta dishes with scallops and shrimp ... they were fabulous.
Lovely place to spend an evening. We had a meal and attended a welcome event for a wedding weekend.
Always a great choice for food and outdoor seating!
The food is the only redeeming factor of this restaurant and the outside patio. The service last night was horrendous and has only been marginally better with past visits. Unfortunately I don’t think we’ll be returning as there are much better options in town that will provide both delicious food and amazing customer service.
Birthday lunch-nice patio
Delicious food. A little pricey. Some screaming patrons.
All very nice but we were there at 7 pm on a Saturday night for a romantic dinner and were seated by a loud large group and a table with two noisy young children. Could not move because the place was almost full. Really spoiled the night.
Great place! Fill in the blanks for a great Valentine’s Day! Will be coming back to take my family this weekend!! Literally.
We were fortunate enough to thoroughly enjoy a lovely Valentine's Day dinner at Bar Italia. Decorations were lovely and there was a jazz trio playing live music. Our server was excellent - very attentive and he provided the utmost of service throughout the entire meal. The food is always fantastic and very fresh at Bar Italia - this night was no exception. We were seated in the Wine Room, often used for special occasions and overflow on special nights. This setting was beautiful. We are wine drinkers and the choices were ample, with very high-quality wines. Our server was quite knowledgeable about the wines and also about all of the food dishes, providing some much-appreciated recommendations. Dinner was superb, starting with salads that were delicious and always made from the freshest of ingredients with very sizable portions. One of us had a pasta dish, while the other enjoyed a chicken entree'. Both were great and portions were, once again, ample. Prices were as we expected and reasonable for this type of high-caliber restaurant. We were pleased to enjoy such a fantastic meal in such a gorgeous setting, without dealing with overly-inflated prices. Bar Italia continues to be one of our favorites and we enjoyed this special night tremendously. We will return - everyone there works very hard to make it the best it can possibly be in every way - and we highly recommend it to you.
Valentine’s Day. Great service & great food!
We hadn't been to Bar Italia in years. Unfortunately it has gone downhill quite a bit. St Louis is full of better restaurants for Italian cuisine. Also, parking is terrible there.
Had a birthday dinner with another couple before going to the Sheldon for a concert. We had plenty of time to have drinks, dinner, dessert and get to the show with time to spare. Service was attentive but not overbearing.
I hadn't been in Bar Italia in a long time so I was excited to go back. It wasn't crazy busy on New Year's Eve. I liked the food and experience but it wasn't Bar Italia great like I have had in the past.
We had cranky kids at end of a long day and a table of 10. Service was remarkable and food was fantastic. Kids actually ate and enjoyed it as did the parents. Thank you!
Needs to feel more cozy. Decorations were just plain.
I had not been to Bar Italia for probably 15 years but for some reason we went 3 weeks ago for the Holidays. I was pleasantly surprised with the authenticity of the experience...from the quirky decor to unique Italian dishes, to speaking with the owner about wines. The pricing is very fair and we will go back in the spring when we can sit outside!
For the cost, I expected significantly better food. Strangely the tables seemed far too cheap for the attempt at a "classy" ambiance.
I hosted a business dinner for 12 here during the holiday season, and it was the perfect venue. The food was spectacular, the service attentive, and the accommodations detail oriented. I planned my event only a few days prior and Nicole was extremely helpful with menu selection and ensuring my group had a private section in the restaurant. I highly recommend Bar Italia and will certainly be returning soon!
This is a favorite for business dinners. The food is stellar, the wine list is exceptional, and the service is always fantastic. There are several veggie-friendly meny items--I highly recommend the Fettucini Siciliana--so there's something for everyone.
Loved the bruschetta special: Tomato, pesto, artichoke and ricotta with mozzarella melted on top - Wow!!
Service nice, but main courses came out while we were still eating our salads and no attempt to take away salads or wait. Very odd. Ambiance just OK
Local Favorite deteriorating fast. This restaurant used to have great ambiance and fabulously consistent food. The new area is big and feels vacant, with no atmosphere at all. Minimal decorating makes you feel like you got assigned the kid's table. I don't know whether the restaurant changed owners or chefs, but the caponata used to be flavorful full of thick tomato paste and is now akin to Italian salsa. The pesto pasta was far from al dente, yet still managed to be cold. Bread is now not high quality toasted rounds, but chewy section of a French baguette. The service was solid and the wine list impressive, although $16/glass for a Primitivo is a bit steep. Two other guests also ordered pasta dishes and they were poorly presented and just unappetizing in appearance. Taste was okay, but not outstanding.
I used to say this would be my last meal on earth, but no longer.
This place had it all good food, good wine, a beautiful patio, and wonderful staff.
My wife and I really enjoyed this place. Great wine list, great food, and our server was a lot of fun would highly recommend.
Took some visiting co-workers and they loved it! Awesome food and service.
We arrived as they opened for lunch and Jason took us to a lovely table under the tent on the patio.
He was wonderful. Seated us, served the food, made the drinks. I highly recommend the Espresso Martini!
The food was very good and we will be back for dinner soon.
We love making the drive here for birthdays or special occasions. Everything is usually very very good. My steak this time was pretty undercooked for my liking, but overall everything was good.
Authentically Italian recipes from a dedicated group of people who are proud of their grounding in the culture of Cucina. Don't look here for spaghetti and meatballs but do try the Pollo Agro Dolce, chicken in a sweet and sour sauce with the accent on sweetness from raisins and currants.
If you are a wine aficionado ask about their cellar list which has some exclusive selections that sets them apart from the usual. Cocktails are equally exciting .
If it is not too hot sit on the expansive patio and watch The Central West End at its best.
Our go-to spot for group dinner. Delicious food. Wonderful patio.
Need better valet service. Need mosquito deterrent.
We have enjoyed this restaurant several times and find the food to be delicious. The menu has a varied selection and there are always specials to enjoy. The only drawback is very active street parking but there is also a parking garage in the block that terminates across from Bar Italia. "Neighborhood gem" is the best description for this restaurant.
Great food and service. Produce used in salads was extremely fresh and flavorful. Service was attentive but not hovering. Owner came out to greet us.
I wish the service was better and the menu was more varied. But it was good. It would be better if they had a kids menu and some better salad options and more varied menu with some tradition chicken cutlet offers (grilled chicken Milanese, chicken parm) and some pastas like ravioli.... we enjoyed our meal though. Service was slow although the staff was super nice.
Unfortunately being a restaurant owner myself I was a bit disappointed at the lamb chops I ordered. I ordered them med rare and got one basically uncooked, one med well and one done the way I asked. The flavors were great and the other five people in my group got what they ordered and pretty much liked it. My issue was not that they weren’t cooked to my request but that when I told the waitress, Bianca who by the way was outstanding; it was that no manger ever came to the table or allowed Bianca to offer me to get them corrected or get something else. We were given two desserts on the House. I would recommend but would have preferred a bit more concern given the dish was one of the more expensive ones on the menu
as always, Bar Itlaia delivered a memorable evening. The gorgeous patio was perfect, our waiter friendly and efficient, drinks perfect, dinner entrees delightful. Our only regret? We just didn't have any room for dessert!
The food was very good, but, for us, two years in a row the service has been lacking. Very little attention paid to table by main waitress after initial order.
