Bar Harbor Ratings and Reviews
Food was outstanding, with lite background music from the piano player but wasn't annoying because we were able to hold a conversation.
Drinks are not cheap, but very good quality. So one or two with dinner makes it worth it.
Came hungry and portions were fantastic and left with a small to go box.
Restaurant will rival many in the Twin Cities without the price tag. Expect to spend $100-150 for a dinner for 2 with two drinks, appetizer and dessert.
Our early New Year's Eve dinner experience was delightful. The wine and cocktail we enjoyed were very tasty and the meals were excellent. The service was top-notch and our server noticed the little things that make a great dining experience. We have typically enjoyed our dining experiences at Bar Harbor.
We live on the lake and take many friends and family to BH by boat throughout the summer. We enjoy both the indoor dining and outdoor "summer" dining. Thank you.
Unfortunately, we had a bad situation regarding a bottle of wine and how the bartender reacted to our concerns. He was very unprofessional. We ordered a bottle of Chardonnay. While pouring the last glass from the bottle a good amount of "gunk" pour out and into the glass. We asked the server to find out what the gunk was. She came back with a weak and confusing explanation. We then asked the bartender to come over and explain. He was really flippant and said the "supplier" said it was harmless. And, when a bartender sees the gunk pour out at the bar they just strain it out before they send it to a customer.
Well, this was extremely unappetizing and not what you would expect from BH. No apology. No "how can I fix it" comment. He was the bartender, her knew more than us, and we were stupid to be upset.
We asked for a manager. He/she did not come to the table, but removed the bottle from our bill. Still no apology or recognition that this was unacceptable at BH.
We love BH and hope you can find bartenders and managers that are as professional and efficient as the servers are. The servers are top notch. Someone is training them very well.
Thank you for all you do for the lakes!

The food was fantastic. It was our 25th wedding anniversary so it was a special night for us and Bar Harbor did not disappoint. The service was not perfect but you can't have everything I suppose. Again, the food was really tasty and perfectly prepared. Nice ambiance. Thanks Bar Harbor!
We asked for a booth but were told by the tall host that the wait would be 1 1/2 hours. We were seated at a table and noted immediately 3 booths open up and remain empty with no offer of reseating....disappointing.
The steaks as always were cooked to perfection and as directed. The fried calamari with chili sauce is another favorite of ours.
Our service was attentive and friendly.
We will return.
We went to Bar Harbor for a special occasion while vacationing in the area. We had always heard it was amongst the nicer places in the lakes area. For the most part it was quite good. However the prime rib special was disappointing as it came out with much more waste than prime rib. The walleye was good and the surf and turf got high marks. Service was very good and we were treated very well.
Will go back but will try some other items.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here. Great view, expansive menu and great service. We had a relaxing dinner, with all courses. Our server was attentive, yet didn't rush us and gave excellent recommendations for drinks, food and desert. We had their crab cake for an appetizer which was enough for two and delicious. Our entrees included scallops and New York strip; both done to perfection. Truly a nice upscale restaurant in the Brainerd lakes area!
Bar Harbor is a legendary classic supper club in the Brainerd Lakes Country of Central Minnesota. We had never been there before, and decided to go for our anniversary. It was excellent. Service was attentive and friendly. I had forgotten that I had noted "Anniversary" on the reservation form where it asked whether it was a special occasion, and we got a free dessert. The wine list is not particularly large, but has good wines at all price points up to $175. Being on Gull Lake, the specialty is fish and seafood. It had rained in the afternoon and we could see the rainbow as we sat at our table by the window. Starter brussels sprouts were outstanding. Will definitely make an effort to go back.
The food was fabulous. We love seafood and the scallops were done to perfection served with parsnips, asparagus and served over risoto. The short rib was also done perfectly served over mashed potatoes with green beans and sauteed carrots. Also, a great salad accompanies entrees. We enjoyed both a caesar and a wedge salad. The timing was perfect as we never felt rushed nor did we have exceptionally long wait time between courses. The restuarant overlooks the marina and the northern part of Gull Lake.
My husband's Ribeye(40.00) was gray inside and he asked for medium rare to medium. It was also gray in color on the outside. Ribeye should be most inside due to the father marbeling. My short rib was salty red wine glaze was salty and nothing special. The mashed potatoes had chunks of potato in them. The salads were great but the meals themselves not good.
