Bar Frites Ratings and Reviews
Would have given a higher rating but there were some real misses. First, the pluses. My request for a quieter table was honored by being seated in the back room(main room VERY noisy), servers were friendly, drinks refilled without asking, food good, not rushed out after the meal. The minuses--my reservation wasn't acknowledged to OpenTable, meat wasn't cooked as asked, salad didn't arrive with dressing on the side. Will give this another try since there must be a reason why it's so popular.
Who doesn't love the feel of a French restaurant with the dim lighting, tiled walls, marble tabletops, etc.? This place is great - the food, service, ambiance, and pricing are all terrific. I had the baby fried chicken, which was fantastic. And give the blood orange margarita a try. Two would be even better.
I love Bar Frites.....the atmosphere, the ambiance, the food, and the service. My go to favorites are the Wok Hay Frog Legs and the whole crispy sea bass. Their burgers are always a good as well. My husband and I went before a concert at Tilles Center.....a perfect start to a perfect evening.
Thanks, Bar Frites!
Overall, bad experience. Loud and overcrowded as they've squeezed additional tables in. Food order came out wrong. Beef came out rare when ordered medium well. Potatoes were burnt to a crisp. Salmon was overcooked. It appeared these dishes had been prepared and then reheated. They rush the food out so they can flip the tables. Two people, and our bill was 150 dollars. We were in and out in 45 minutes, and not by design. We take our time when dining. We were very disappointed in this experience because we frequent the POLL Bros. restaurants often.
A trendy spot that seems to be known for its bar scene. However, as a place for a fine dining experience, it's very much lacking. The place is cramped and overcrowded -- waitstaff can barely make it between the tables. It's as if they'd rather accommodate more people in a mediocre manner than fewer people with excellence. I didn't mind the loud, noisy atmosphere as much as I was incredibly distracted with 360 degrees of chaotic activity all around me. While the service was OK, the food was just OK as well. When asking about the fish selections, the waiter suggested the most expensive (and least impressive) seafood dish on the menu. The $30+ halibut dish was adequate, but not worth the hefty price charged. My wife wanted an entree sized salad as her main dish, but when she was greeted with a side dish sized salad, we had to pay double to get a second one. Had she wanted it topped with a protein, like chicken or shrimp, we were told, she would have gotten a larger salad. Even though we specifically asked for an entree-sized salad to start, we had to pay $26 to get her a sufficient amount of romaine lettuce and cheese for dinner.
I'm not a foodie or even very picky about restaurants, but this visit to Bar Frites was likely my last. I've somewhat enjoyed this restaurant in the past, but I think it's time for me to save my precious restaurant dollars for a place that's a better value and is more focused on customer service.
I miss Pastis but Bar Frites has satisfied my Bistro needs! I had a long-anticipated date with my friend. We decided to sit at the bar so we wouldn't hold up a table or feel rushed. Great idea as we were there for close to 4 1/2 hours.
I cannot ignore foie gras if I see it on the menu and theirs was served properly with delicious toast points, perfectly cartelized onions and frisee. It may seem odd but our other appetizer was the Baja Fish Tacos that were scrumptious. The blackened seabass was a bit on the spicy side, which we preferred, but was nicely balanced with a fresh slaw of cilantro, mango and red peppers.
Our entrees were Lump Meat Crab Salad and Classic Quiche....delicious. And we didn't stop there, our shared desserts were Gateau Chocolate Fondant and Creme Brûlée. We've been to BF a few times but this was our most memorable and fun visits.
Great see and be seen spot. Authentic bistro style food and atmosphere. Be prepared to raise your voice for normal conversation. Excellent service and food. Extensive choice from burger to full dinner. Reservations respected ! Friendly staff . Food well prepared to order and served in reasonable amount of time. Wines by the glass excellent tasting.
Great casual bistro. Lively well dressed bar crowd! Professional service attentive but not obtrusive!
Arrived for an early dinners on a Wednesday. Was early for our reservation but were seated immediately.
I noticed a lot of burgers on brioche buns in tables. The menu is varied and inventive. We decided to share the Calamari appetizer which was crisp and delicious.
My wife ordered Filet Mignon Sliders which was a generous portion of steak on 3 buns.
I had open shrimp ravioli which was in a flavorful broth.
We each had 2 glasses of wine and topped it off with cappuccino.
Everything was excellent and although the tab at $150 with tip was a bit steep, we have paid more and been disappointed!
The French Onion soup was O.K., not as good as I was expecting and not as good as I've had at other restaurants. The avocado toast was good but very skimpy. I never saw such small poached eggs. Considering the price, I was disappointed in the food. The atmosphere was pretentious and very loud. I would not recommend.
The our reservation was honored. It was a late reservation and we didn't have to wait at this late time. The bar area was very crowded and we were concerned that there would be a wait. We were sat in a booth and because of its location we were able to hear each-other speak even though the restaurant was on the loud side. The food was good-no complaints.
We were here for lunch aside from being very noisy the service was awful. I asked for no salt which I don’t think was done the dressing I asked for was red wine vinaigrette like on the Greek salad and was brought plain red wine vinegar and told that is what I asked do and had To settle for their vinaigrette which was awfully sweet. Mr husbands sandwich was a disgrace 2 tiny pieces of grilled chicken loaded with mayo even though he said no mayo and our friends omelette came without sauce we will definitely not be coming here anymore.
The vibe on Saturday night was great...it was filled with lots of great energy.. out waiter was extremely friendly and make excellent drink recommendations!! I had the wedge salad ...the crab cake..and truffle fries...all were absolutely delicious!! I can’t wait to go back and try the pizza!!
This is one of our favorite go-to places on Long Island, perfect for lunch and equally as appealing for dinner. The service is excellent and the management is superb ---- always welcoming, greeting you by name and interested in your opinions. A really nice addition to the L.I. restaurant scene.
We came on a Saturday at 6 PM and the place was packed...lots of families and kids. Everything we had was delicious. We came before a show at C W Post. We told the waiter and he made sure we were out in plenty of time. This is a good neighborhood restaurant.
Frequently go to BF. Food and service is always excellent. Definitely a see and be seen crowd but we always request table in back (or outside on comfortable nights) so my father can hear better. Pricey? Yes! But on Long Island there's always similar for more$ and less$.
