Committed to serving authentic tapas and delicious wines in a wonderfully inspired setting, Bar Ferdinand in Philadelphia, PA takes its inspiration from the classic children's book. Offering brunch, lunch and dinner, guests can be certain that each glass they savor is going to be a flawless match to the dishes they pair with it.
Dinner options at Bar Ferdinand emphasize the tapas. Choices such as simple toasted almonds or house marinated olives work well with more substantial bites such as the patatas bravas or the carpaccio. There are also entres such as the monkfish or the lamb chops and most guests love the daily paella made with only the freshest ingredients. Whether popping in late for some charcuterie and cheese or early for lunch, a visit to Bar Ferdinand is sure to satisfy.
There was no one in the restaurant when we went. The door was open but the place did not look open for business. We did not see a single soul working there. So we left and went somewhere else to eat. It was VERY disappointing as I know this place closed on Monday and we wanted to eat there one last time.
Had been over a dozen times and it just was messy and loud. Waitstaff was inattentive and careless pouring a $70 bottle of wine. Not too sad it's closing...which might be why it wasn't as good as it once was.
Just discovered this place only to find that it is closing. Authentic Spanish that rivals anything I have had in Spain.
This place is now closed. To commemorate the restaurants last night in business the waitstaff wore crass, disgusting tee-shirts with the words; "Don't Grab My Pu**y" written in large letters across the front. We used to love this place, but any owner that would allow this sort of behavior should be put out of business. If they open somewhere else we will stay away.
There was a mouse. Ran around our feet about 5 time before I couldn't take it anymore and moved to a high top. I don't blame the mouse; their cheese is pretty bangin. But the waitress didn't seem to care much. I don't even think she told the manager bc no one else came by to check it out. It was relatively dead in there for a Friday night. I think we might have been our server's only table yet I had to ask our drinks to be refilled 3 times. At least their food was decent. Some dishes felt like there was something missing. The goat cheese flatbread and the arugula salad could've used something else to liven it up. Hubby and I still had a good time
Always love love this place
Consistently excellent - didn't live the crispy drumsticks but everything else was first class as usual.
Restaurant week 2016, great food, beautiful bad and restaurant, excellent drinks.
Haven't been here in years. Usually overlook the terrible taste of diet soda to enjoy a challenging and well prepared menu. Was looking forward to being back. It wasn't awful...but vastly underwhelming. It was like they "whitewashed" the menu. Flavors and textures were flat. Ice cream (once creamy and flavorful) was ice-hard and barely had a taste. We ordered 7 items; one was very good. The tartine. Anyway, I hope they get back to where they once were.
Very well executed Spanish fare. A little over-priced but was worth the money. Wait staff is very knowledgable on the wine list/preparation of individual dishes. Try the paella and the pulpo.
Everything and everybody was wonderful.
A friend and I chose this spot to catch up on our lives. We went at 7:30 pm on a Sunday evening and it was the perfect time to go. Our server was young and seemed new to waiting tables but he was very sweet and attentive. We ordered about 6 tapas dishes and were suprised at how low our bill was - maybe because we skipped on the alcoholic drinks. I highly recommend the albondigas and the brussel sprouts! We would definitely return here on any other night.
Food was fun and Drinks were great. Service was impeccable. The Roasted Chicken was delicious, as were the Chickpea Frites, Pork Empanada, Monkfish, Baked Goat Cheese and Grilled Steak (among others!). The Chorizo platter came out with a full flame from the kitchen which was exciting! We were a large party and enjoyed tasting and passing multiple items from the menu. The kitchen was so accommodating for our kids - who enjoyed the Patatas Bravas and Crispy Chicken Drumsticks, sauces on the side and presented to mimic a kid's meal. There was nothing we wouldn't try again. And I'm sure we will be back soon.
Excellent service.
Wide variety and waitress made great recommendations.
The food was small plates. And there was a lot to choose from and we chose a lot. However it seemed that the majority of the flavor was missing from the food. It was cooked well just lacked flavor.
The drinks were light on the alcohol. They tasted good but when you expected a buzz after the first one and didn't have any by the third, you wonder how watered down the drinks could be.
Delicious food & wine, excellent music
Flat out awesome service. We came with party of 12 for my birthday and the hostess and servers accommodated us wonderfully.
I wish the pacing had been better as they were bringing out our tapas. The food was good overall. For the money, if rather get my tapas at Jamonera on 13th in center city. Jamonera set my tapas bar high.
Brussels sprouts and fig special were amazing! As well as the shrimp dish and chick pea frites
It's been one of the few lasting bright spots in NoLibs for years and they're still doing things right - great food, great service, cool & underrated bar - great place for no-pretension tapas in a great setting.
Wonderful brunch with great and varied menu! Drinks were amazing especially the Bloody Mary's!We loved the decor and ambiance and they seated us a party of 10 immediately and gave us great service!
We re-visited here now that David Ansell (Ansill) has departed.
Everything was great: food, wine and service.
Sadly it was a rainy Sunday night and the place was empty, yet several other NoLibs places we walked by on the way home were busy.
I hope this is not a bad omen and just an off night.
Really people, good here. Eat!
Always a great place to dine.
Terrible acoustics. Dishes sounded good on menu but lacked flavor. Dessert was flan and it looked damaged. Should not have been served. Service was good.
Made a 9pm reservation for 8 people. We arrived on time and was told we had to wait. Finally got seated after waiting almost an hour! By the time we were asked to order, they had ran out of most of the items we were interested in. Our server was pleasant and tried to win us back over but the damage was done. Bad impression of the place.
Food was awesome! Our waitress Tina was excellent!
I booked Bar Ferdinand for my husband's birthday. We had ten people coming and I was nervous that everyone might not like it. Boy was I wrong! Everyone raved about the food and even the picky eaters found delicious plates and ordered seconds. The staff was super friendly and helpful throughout the meal. The drinks were reasonably priced and the sangria was very tasty. I'm so glad I chose this restaurant and I can't wait to get back there!
Bring earplugs-really loud. Service and food good.
We had an amazing experience as usual! Thank you again for an awesome night!!
Food was innovative, tasty and presentation was excellent.
Loved this place the first time we came - still love it. From the moment we arrived until dinner was unfortunately over, everything was delicious and served with impeccable service. Thank you for an amazing evening.
My friend and I hadn't been to Bar Ferdinand in years, and we knew that changes had occurred over time so we didn't know what to expect. We were so glad we went back.
The hostess and our server was Erin. She was absolutely perfect for us. Erin was attentive without being intrusive. She was able to answer all our questions, and kept things moving at an easy, appropriate pace. Several other servers brought out some of our dishes, and they, too, were informative and so much fun.
But,of course, the most important part of a restaurant is the food. And,the food was so good! We only had tapas, but we tried six or seven to share between us. The only one I was disappointed in was the pork empanada; the others were great. I especially enjoyed the cheese plate with its accompaniments.
We came out of Bar Ferdinand happy and satisfied...and saying that we would be back again soon.
So my boyfriend and I decided to go here on a Saturday night for dinner. We love tapas style and ordered 5 things off the menu. My favorite was the baked goat cheese - so good!! Also the short rib with root vegetable purée was excellent. Unfortunately, my boyfriends duck came out rare. The server was very polite about it & he got a second order that was the proper temperature. Though it's not necessarily the restaurants fault, it was incredibly noisey in there. We were sat between two bachelorette parties. That wasn't very pleasant. Overall I'd return.
My wife and I used to love Bar Ferdinand. The menu didn't change much, but the range of small, mid and large plates always fulfilled our appetites. In our latest trip, we noticed that the menu was significantly downsized, reorganized and very limited in terms of options. We even asked our waitress if we were missing a page of the menu. It was sad to see this place fall so far with such a puzzling move. We won't be going again.
Food was great with interesting twist of flavors but nothing too extravagent that would turn you off. If its on the menu, order the duck it's amazing!!
We really enjoyed our meal here & the ambiance , will definitely return.
Excellent. Food and wine was Amazing and the service was great!
The staff was friendly and helpful. There were a couple of missed items from our order and we had to ask about them a couple of times. However, the missing items were brought after we asked about them, and they gave us one of the items on the house as an apology. In my mind that makes up for everything.
We met a friend for lunch there on a Sunday not realizing it was a Sunday Brunch menu. There were not very many food choices. I had a mimosa which I found sour. Then I tried a Sangria and asked if there was fresh fruit in it. The waitress said there was but it turned out to only be a few orange slices. I had an arugula salad that was heavy on the salad dressing and I thought was too salty. The waitress was very attentive, but there were not too many customers.
This was our third or fourth time at Bar Ferdinand, but our first for dinner. We went on New Year's Eve, so the menu was limited. However, though it was limited, it was excellent! We had a five course dinner/dessert meal, and were thoroughly pleased with everything we ate. The service was excellent, as was the choice of drinks. We cannot wait to go back!
