What Insiders Are Saying
One of Denver's most-hyped openings of 2016 actually lives up to the hype. Pizza and pasta for days.
The food was really good. Unfortunately, the service was weak, the table layout inconvenient, the bathroom was unclean, and the noise level high. I probably would not return or highly recommend.
Went on a date night and expected good things given the pedigree.
Overall the food was good. Most dishes we had learned more to the acidic side and just didn't have enough balance to be a great dish. The Pork Chop "Saltimbocca" was a standout as well as the zucchini desert. The wine selection (especially dessert/after dinner drinks) was very good.
Delicious food! Seating is cramped, great value ! Meatballs were amazing!! House tap wine great too!
Buttermilk Fried Chicken for brunch? TAKE. MY. MONEY.
Beyond amazing food and service. You can’t ask for much more. We sat outside for happy hour drinks and loved indoors for dinner. Crab pasta dish is still on my mind two days later. It was insanely good! Highly recommend Bar Dough.
Exceptional service, our server was truly great. Great Italian menu, lots of great dishes. Incredible wine selection. A truly great meal all the way around.
Haven’t ever had a bad experience at this joint. Flavors and service are always perfect!
Very good. Noisy at times. Very popular. Fun place.
Pasta and pizza both creative and delicious. The bucatini was great and the garlic bread is heavenly. Cocktails were also outstanding, but expensive. Yet, I will not go back. The noise level was so high I left with a headache from 90 minutes of shouting with my dinner companion. When we raised the noise issue, we were told that they hear this complaint a lot and we should request an outside table next time. Since they don't have a covered patio, that is not a good response to what they admit is a common complaint.
Pizza was amazing! Fancy toast was my favorite part of the meal !!
We showed up early for our reservation and the gracious staff was able to seat us quickly-and at one of their patio tables. Our sever was friendly and super knowledgeable about the menu items. The garlic bread was delicious, as was the tagliolini squid ink pasta. The meatballs were also very good. The restaurant takes pride in its food and service.
Food a little exotic and menu hard to read
10 out of 10 would recommend. Everything about this experience was flawless from start to finish. Our server was attentive but not overly so, she provided recommendations when we asked but was not pushy about anything. The bottomless mimosas were absolutely worth the cost and the food could not have been better. Their breakfast pasta was phenomenal and the fried chicken was done to perfection. Cannot wait to go back!
The restaurant itself is pretty tiny and can get loud, but just know to expect that. The pasta is very good. One of my companions said that his saltimbocca was one of the best meals he's had in a while. Highly recommend if you enjoy Italian food.
Phenomenal Food! Awesome Service! From the castelvetrano olives to the tagliarini it was absolutely outstanding! Do not leave this restaurant without ordering the Zeppoles!
The tables are very small and close together. The noise inside the restaurant is too loud to carry on dinner conversation without yelling. The food however was delicious.
Our waiter was simply amazing. The food was very tasty and presented beautifully. Just a side note...when I made the reservation I put in the message that it was my daughter’s birthday to surprise her and they didn’t acknowledge it, so I don’t think they read the comments when you make a reservation. So if you have a special occasion to be acknowledged it’s probably better to call them.
The food was very good. The service was good, but got a bit slow as the restaurant filled up. But the main thing was it was a warm night, but inside the building it was freezing cold! It's nice to keep the space cool on a warm day, but it's not relaxing to be very cold as you eat. We skipped dessert just to get outside and warm up.
Energetic is not an adequate phrase. Incredibly loud. Group next to us was extremely loud, rude and inappropriate. Too much alcohol.
We were hoping for an interesting and unique experience but instead most dishes were over seasoned. Too much salt with the scallops and too much buttermilk and pepper on the little gem salad (leaving bland, peppered leaf lettuce). The fettuccine was straight out of the box. The fancy toast was sublime. Why not just make this a Chef Carrie toast place?
Unfortunately we were greeted by an incredible unhelpful hostess who refused to reseat us, despite the ample extra tables late on a Sunday evening. She was rude and disrespectful for such a small request and started the evening on a low note. It was embarrassing to bring my out-of-town friend to one of my (previously) favorite restaurants and experience such disappointing service. In NO hurry to return.
The food and service was outstanding. The noise level was awful. Couldn't hear our waiter or my fellow diners, had to ask our waiter to repeat himself multiple times. The barstools at the high tops don't have backs which gets uncomfortable. I will recommended Bar Dough to friends.
The staff at Bar Dough is incredible. They made our anniversary unique and special. I would highly recommend this place, everyone can find something to eat, drink, and love. Thank you!
Consistently excellent. Great creative flavorful cocktails. Again, could get past the zeppole house made doughnuts with fresh raspberry jam. Then the breakfast pizza with their delicious fennel sausage. A great brunch spot with great friendly service. Cheers!
Ridiculously good food paired with great service. Enjoyed a few drinks and appetizers on their happy hour menu before having dinner saved us money too. Their happy hour has a few bits (like rice risotto balls) that are not on their dinner menu that are fabulous. The noise level was deafening and the tables are too close together (like I could have eaten off my neighbors plate and it was difficult to get up to go to the restroom) but other than that is was amazing and a “must” to return to...
Really terrific food. Salads were a highlight; pizza was wonderful. Attentive service.
The food was actually pretty good but my wife ordered one of the chef’s favorites, which was recommended by the server, but it was not tasty at all. Also our portion sizes were fairly small so when I’m paying almost $20/plate I’d expect a little more or else each bite should be absolutely amazing. Lastly, it was a lively night, making it really loud, but the music was still playing even though there were two huge parties nearby; and I was a little distracted and confused by the random 80s films being played in black and white by the bar. Overall, pretty good food but definitely stick with the popular menu items, and try to sit outside. Also be prepared to order multiple courses or you might be hungry.
Loved the service, our server was great. The cocktails before the meal were great and we all loved our food selections. I would definitely go back. The only concern is the loud noise, of the weather is good I’d recommend the patio if you have anyone with low hearing.
Fantastic food, great service, lovely spot for a date night. Thanks!
I’ve been a diehard fan of Bravo’s Top
Chef since its first season. It’s pretty much the only thing I watch on TV these days. Which is why I get REALLY excited when I have an opportunity to eat at a Top Chef contestant’s restaurant. Good friends visiting Denver gave us the opportunity to visit Chef Carrie Baird’s Bar Dough.
Food: The Spring salad was a hit. It was a light blend of English peas, ricotta salata, asparagus, avocado (which I didn’t taste), pickled red onion, tricolore vinaigrette, and poached egg. Good size, red onions were perfect. Could have used more ricotta (but couldn’t everything use more cheese?).
Chef Baird is known for her “fancy toast” - deceptively complex toasts that beat out many a competitors dish during her season. So I HAD to have the McFancy Toast, basically a croque monsiuer meets French toast (French toast, prosciutto cotto, formaggio americano, sunnyside egg, syrup).
I accompanied my meal with a Bel Fumo (partida reposado, sombra mezcal, amaro sfumato - I left out the lemon & strawberry shrub due to food intolerances).
One suggestion: A member of our party had Celiac so offering a gluten free option for one of the signature Toasts would have been a nice touch.
Aperol spritzes were flying out the door on this warm Sunday afternoon. I can’t wait to come back and try a spritz and cacio & Pepe, which I adore! And maybe those zeppole doughnuts...
Service: Laid back friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating of food allergies, and shook our hand when we left.
Ambiance: simple, a bit on the crowded and noisy side, but like a modern Italian cafe. Two thumbs up for creative bathroom signs.
I had the opportunity to meet Chef Baird - I thought I’d just take a picture of her working... but she gladly indulged me with a selfie and asked how our brunch was while I blushed furiously and stammered out how much of a fan I was. She’s just as nice in real life as she was depicted on the show. Thank you for making a foodie’s month, Chef Baird!
We thought that the food was good but not excellent
The food is very very good. Also, great service from knowledgeable and appropriately attentive waiter.
Other than the noise level, everything was perfect! Thank you, Chris for taking such good care of us!
Amazing sauce on the margherita, and the spicy clam pizza and artichokes were phenomenal, too
We went for brunch. Sat outside which was really nice. The service was really slow.
We went for brunch and both dishes we had were delicious. Cacio y pepe and Sunday pizza. The pizza was ridiculously delicious. And the homemade Chili oil a bonus!
Will come back to try dinner menu!
Terrific food. Terrific staff. First time here. Loved it
Worth it... its a must stop all around. McFancy toast, cacio de pepe(sp?), pimento dip, zeppoli all outstanding
Bar Dough is great but it seemed like it might have been better. Perhaps my expectations were too high. The food was great, service was great, it was a little noisy and the menu was rather small/limited. For Italian, I was thrown off by fettuccini. It was good but that's very American Italian. Super bummed there was no gnocchi on the menu. I will go back and at least try the pizza. Might be a little overpriced for what you get.
The food and service were amazing! Definitely try the fancy toast!
