Sister restaurant to the popular New York and London locations, Bar Boulud, Boston at Mandarin Oriental, Boston is a French-inspired bistro and wine bar located in the heart of Back Bay on Boylston Street. Chef Daniel Boulud offers locally inspired seasonal dishes, traditional French bistro fare and an impressive selection of famed house-made terrines and pâtés by Parisian Charcutier, Gilles Verot. Additionally the menu features a handful of signature sausages and burgers, adding an American touch to this French inflected bistro and wine bar. An impressive wine cellar spotlights wines from Burgundy and the Rhóne Valley , including many fine selections by the glass. The interiors are inspired by a contemporary take on the craft of winemaking to create a comfortable and welcoming surrounding for a unique and intimate experience. Bar Boulud serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, all-day dining is also available at the bar. Walk-ins are encouraged.

This restaurant connected to the Mandarin Oriental is definitely worth a return visit. It's less crowded (for no good reason) than many good downtown restaurants, so it's a good option if you don't plan ahead by several weeks.

Love everything about this restaurant... the food, the ambience, the wait staff, the overall service.

The coq au vin is a must try! Our waiter was attentive to when we were having great conversation and did not interrupt. I will be returning for when I need to scratch my French cuisine itch. Great wine selection as well.

I loved the Eggs Benedict with spinach added; It was perfect except the ham was quite salty. The muffin was nicely toasted and not soggy and the portion was just the right size. Also the arugula salad had dressing that was a little odd, but not in the good way.

Here for the Christmas Day brunch. Food was a huge disappointment. Terribly overpriced for what we got. Wait people were friendly and helpful

We are fans of Bar Boulud in NYC. The Boston installment doesn't quite match it. (We have also been to Daniel and Cafe Boulud, but those are in altogether different categories.) Service was excellent, but the dishes themselves need more thought. Our worry is that the kitchen may think it is mainly serving hotel guests who want something uncomplicated and good for the kids. Patrons who want something more interesting will go around the corner to Porto or to the two fine restaurants at Eaterly, a couple of blocks away.

Our table was NOT in the nice section (under the warm wooden arches in a booth). I wondered if they placed use where they did because we were an Open Table reservation. I picked Bar Boulud based on the French Bistro-esque menu and the photos. It was just where they seated us did NOT match my expectations. Would have preferred one of the nice red booths under the warm wood arched ceiling. Much nicer. Felt like I'd been "had".
