Bar Boulud Ratings and Reviews
Serial Sunday Brunchers, we’ve been almost everywhere in Boston over the past few years. Bar Boulud, far and away sets the standard for consistently exceptional, professional, attentive service. Food quality and presentation are excellent, portions perfect and pace is relaxed without dragging. The Croque Madam is the best in Boston (tried em all).
Just this week we were talking about the great service when the manager stopped by just to say hello and check on our dining experience. Perfect timing. Our only regret is not remembering our waiters name for this review, because he deserves recognition (naturally, I got the receipt wet, blurring his name) ... Abd S??ad... genuine pride in his work.
We’ll be back again and agaí. The Mandarin is lucky to have you.
We arrived early to meet up with college friends and sat at the bar for drinks. Our friends met us and shared an appetizer. We were notified when our table became available and easily moved. The waiter did not interrupt our conversation to get us to sit. Dinner and dessert exceeded my expectations. We ordered fish, chicken, and steak all cooked as specified. The meals arrived hot and delicious. Our evening ended with a slice of pie to share. We couldn’t resist the dessert menu but were too full to try the assortment of pies. All in all, it was a good night out with old friends.
My friends and no longer live near each other so we make a promise to get together every few months. We were so glad to share a wonderful lunch with fabulous service, excellent foods and a perfect Rose. It wax a great experience. Thank you.
Very disappointing!! We picked this restaurant was for the name of Boulud and it is with the Mandarin Orientatal Hotel... it was Wednesday night and four of us went there for dinner. It was not busy, at best 70% full. The waiter must be in his bad mood; there was no greeting , no smiles ... besides taking the orders , he did not stop by asking whether things were all right.... the food was average and it was not worth the money they charged ！
I definitely would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and would not go back! Very disappointing!
I was disappointed by this place. I expected it to be really delicious and chic but it was outdated and the food was really not good at all. My soup arrived cold and had to be sent back to be reheated. My salad was really terrible. How hard is it to make a good salad? It was three stacks of romaine hearts with this salad dressing put lightly on top. This meant that if you wanted the dressing to hit most of the lettuce it didn’t. And it had shrimp, on it and again how hard is it to make shrimp taste good? But for some reason they were not well cooked and had too many strange seasonings on them, maybe in an effort to make the dish more exotic. But what should’ve been a nice simple salad with shrimp for lunch turned out to be a very unsatisfactory meal that I could barely eat. My Americano coffee was undrinkable. For those of you who don’t know what an Americano is, it is an espresso with hot water in it. I was charged six dollars for this drink, and it was like mud. Again, how hard is it to make a good Americano? This is supposed to be a very fine European restaurant and I get the sense that they’ve lost their luster. I also note that the restaurant is incongruent with the Mandarin Oriental, the hotel in which it is housed. The Mandarin Oriental is one of the finest hotels in the world, and the establishment in Boston is no exception. The restaurant really needs to be spruced up and the food has to be revamped in order to suitably fit within the Mandarin Oriental five star quality. I also note that the restaurant failed to mark me as having shown up and I had to spend a silly amount of time calling the restaurant back to confirm that they did not list me as a no-show on OpenTable. Sloppy.
Difficult to believe, but this glorious restaurant just gets better and better. There were five of us dining yesterday for lunch; all ordered fish but of three varieties; all were sensational! And by all means, leave room for dessert...the pastry chef is top shelf!
I was surprised that my food was mediocre. I had eaten here 4 months ago and had excellent dinner.
the pheasant was salty and dry, the salad was overdressed. I will think twice about returning given the disappointment with the food.
It is a convenient, fun location.
Service was friendly and helpful, INCREDIBLY rushed, in terms of the pace of food delivery (never thought I’d complain about too fast but...) and the invasive plate clearing staff that interrupted our meal and conversation multiple times to clear the table - twice when we were still eating!
The food arrived within < 5 minutes of ordering. We had been fully served and finishing our mains withinin 35 minutes of arriving at the restaurant. That’s great for McDonalds but doesn’t really match the purpose of a couple’s night out at a nice (expensive) restaurant. Felt like they really wanted to turn over the table and maximize throughput, rather than the dining experience. Very surprising, industrial and disappointing experience.
Would eat at the bar next time if possible.
Food good. Wine menu - BEWARE. We thought we were ordering a bottle of wine for $50 - it turned out to be $195. When we questioned the price at the end of the meal the waiter was arrogant and argumentative and insisted that he explained the difference between a 3oz glass vs a 6 oz glass (we took the second column to be the bottle price). All I can say is if 5 college educated diners did not understand what he said, how clear was he?
Service poor - we waited a long time between courses.
We were left to pour the expensive wine ourselves.
When I asked for freshly ground pepper I was given a salt and pepper shaker....when I queried the availability of freshly ground paper the waitress said she would ask. She returned 5 minutes later with a pepper grinder.
And to finish off, when my son pointed out to the waiter that the wine list was misleading, the waiter dropped a menu on a glass of water and spilt water all over the table. Rather than apologize, he exclaimed "Oh let me wipe that up".
We had a fabulous meal at Bar Boulud - food was amazing, our server was attentive and personable, the manager (who was in Boston while his Boulud was being renovated in Miami) was charming. Well priced for the quality, perfect place to celebrate my daughter's birthday! We will be back!
Perfect evening! Great service, amazing food, and when they heard it was out wedding anniversary they took such good care of us - nice table in the window, and even a little surprise dessert! And the scallops and chicken dishes were both wonderful. Thank you Bar Boloud!
We went to Bar Boulud for my daughter's birthday. Had not had dinner here before so had high expectations given the restaurant's location in the Mandarin Oriental . Unfortunately, the food was disappointing and our waiter was rather abrupt and dismissive, spoiling what should have been an entertaining and special evening for our family. To the restaurant's credit, they did bring out a nice birthday treat for my daughter but it did not make up for the deficiencies in our dining experience.
Having been to the Palm Beach location in FL we had high expectations. While there was nothing that was "Bad" we felt that a chef as highly celebrated as him would have much more to offer than what we experienced.
The Popcorn Old fashioned was less than average.
The Steak entree as well as the other entree were both average at best.
The Shishito pepper appetizer was just peppers pan fried in a skillet with absolutely no other garnishments of any kind- they did taste good but it was very underwhelming.
Again, having been to their Palm Beach location at the Brazilian, I know that this was more the location that was not as well run as it should be- Chef please take note!! We know you are much better than this!
