Sister restaurant to the popular New York and London locations, Bar Boulud, Boston at Mandarin Oriental, Boston is a French-inspired bistro and wine bar located in the heart of Back Bay on Boylston Street. Chef Daniel Boulud offers locally inspired seasonal dishes, traditional French bistro fare and an impressive selection of famed house-made terrines and pâtés by Parisian Charcutier, Gilles Verot. Additionally the menu features a handful of signature sausages and burgers, adding an American touch to this French inflected bistro and wine bar. An impressive wine cellar spotlights wines from Burgundy and the Rhóne Valley , including many fine selections by the glass. The interiors are inspired by a contemporary take on the craft of winemaking to create a comfortable and welcoming surrounding for a unique and intimate experience. Amazing charcuterie plate and one of the best burgers in Boston (although the $22 price is also at the top). Great service as always. Can go upscale or more simple and all food is outstanding.

We love French wine and can always find something interesting to drink. Second time eating here. Both times I found the food rather forgettable.
Ordered a salad appetizer not knowing a salad also came with my meal - would have appreciated the server mentioning that...
Love the location. Will return, but maybe to the bar instead of a sit-down meal.

This was one of my go-to spots in Back Bay for service and food, but I had a really poor experience last night.

Table of four for dinner, and the server interrupted conversation to race through specials and ask for drink orders - without considering that we had just sat down and the drink menu was still perched in the center of the table.

After the long wait to check back with us - server jumped into food orders and we had to catch her before she left the table to request drinks.
Then while ordering drinks, the server made a judgmental face in response to the drink order of my colleague and then repeated the facial expression in response to his request for a specific garnish to the drink.

Very long wait for our meal (we were the first seating), and the server did not notice that my steak was rare the point where I could not cut through the middle paces (ordered it med rare).

In terms of food; I got steak frittes and the steak was more than rare in the center, and both the steak and french fries were under seasoned. The greens were well seasoned.

My wine glass was left empty on the table by server and side-servers clearing plates and filling water until a side server knocked it over and shattered while filling our water glasses for the 17th time.

Long waits to clear plates, bring dessert menus, get dessert, and finally get the check...

I was really disappointing because I recommended the restaurant based on previous experiences - and was most disappointed by the service and overall experience than the food.

Hopefully this was a one-off...

We live Bar Boulud!! Have made a habit of taking our discriminating out of town friends there and have never been disappointed. It a particularly lovely in the summer with the windows open but we just went the evening of Patriot’s Day where we were able to watch the last few stragglers come over the finish line. There food is constantly getting changed up, their wine list is unequaled and the cocktails are superb. And the ambiance is delightful. Cheers!

Overpriced, mediocre brunch. Our meal (pancakes and omlet) was the quality you would get at IHOP.

Little warmth or coziness in the setting. Steak frites was okay but not great. Paying $16 for a 3-4 oz glass of average Chardonnay feels like a rip-off.

Seems more like a hotel lobby restaurant than the way it’s promoted. The food was just ok. The service was just ok. Nobody really went out of their way to make us feel welcomed or valued.

The soups and salads were delicious. The shrimp cocktail was not up to par. The shrimp was mealy, as if it had been refrozen. I have ordered it in the past and liked it so much, but would not order it again. It was not up to the standard of this restaurant.

My date and I went for dinner on a Saturday night. Our table was ready right away and our server was phenomenal! Everyone was very attentive, professional and kind. Each course was exceptional and you could really tell the ingredients were top grade. We had absolutely no complaints and would certainly go again the next time we're in Boston. What a treat!

We enjoyed a fabulous meal at Bar Boulud on Saturday evening. Service was impeccable and the food was delicious, creative and beautifully presented. Although the price point is on the moderate to high end of the spectrum, we felt that the restaurant really delivered. Drinks and wine were pretty steeply priced, though, with not a lot of options on the wine list under $60.00

Shout out to our server -- forget her name, but she's from Indiana. Highly professional and personable, she was engaged and engaging.

We would definitely go back, even though it's quite a long drive, it was that good. And the $20-for-3-hours valet parking was very welcome.

The first day of Restaurant Week and where is everybody? It used to be hard to get a reservation and now the place is empty. Pity, because this is a really good restaurant and they don’t dumb down because of the price reduction, unlike one place we went for lunch where we needed a magnifying glass to see the food portions.
Oysters were a late addition, a generous portion of 4 and no supplement. So good! Then we had lemon sole or gnocchi, both delicious, and a choice of very different desserts for chocolate lovers and haters. The waiter helped us choose an enjoyable, reasonably priced wine, though I still think they should have specially priced wines for RW. Coffee was freshly made and abundant; we could have shared a pot.
All in all, a lovely meal, and I hope they will have a better turnout the rest of the week(s).

Food is always outstanding here. Especially the classic French dishes. And the service is one of the best in the city. Small space, tight tables and hardscape interior make the acoustics somewhat loud. I prefer to sit in the bar area with the soft furnishings and low lighting.

Great service and good food. Nice atmosphere.
Great endive and beets salad appetizer.
Braised beef was good. Great scallops with mushrooms.
Grilled Bronzino with fingerlings potatoes was perfect.
We were a party of 6 which was awkward to have a conversation seated on a retangular table instead of a round one.

St Valentines Day. Probably not the best day to try a restaurant, but we’ve been to NYC restaurants (Daniel, Cafe Boulud, Bar Boulud, Boulud Sud), so figured we’d be okay. The food was good (most was great, but we had the beef and the short rib was very dry, which is really odd for a short rib. Also, the cocktail I wanted wasn’t available (not having a red champagne cocktail on Valentines Day was very surprising). We had an issue was with the timing - we felt very rushed. There was no time between courses. The plates for one course were being removed right as the next course arrived, which was right after we put our forks down. We had wine pairing with meal and we didn’t have time to finish one wine before the next course came. At one point I had 3 different glasses in front of me.

We did have an early reservation, so maybe there was an assumption we had a timeline, however, it wasn’t a pre-theatre meal (and we should have been asked if we had any time constraints before being hurried through).
