Much worse than previous experiences here...they seemed to be having an off night (night after Thanksgiving). The food was uniformly worse than on other visits and the service slower.
Food and service were excellent
We’ve been to Bar Boulud and loved it. Disappointed this time. Service was slow. It took a long time to be served our meal. When it arrived the food was cold.
I am a regular guest and the last two times the service has been marginal to poor. The food is still great.
Bistro atmosphere but top class food and wine list. Limited choice onnthe menu but high quality.
Four of us came after a Sunday afternoon concert, shortly after the dining room opened. All of us have been at BB many times before. As always, the service was professional and friendly from beginning to end. We all had seafood, all of different sorts, and divided some of BB's excellent side vegetable dishes. Everything was prepared exactly as one would wish. This is my go-to restaurant in the Back Bay. It is uniformly wonderful.
Teddy our server was fantastic!!!!!
Failure to keep the buffet foods replenished was disappointing.
Strangely, despite two tries, the kitchen failed to send a medium rare steak. The server was prompt, attentive, and sympathetic throughout the challenging experience.
Pleasant but slapdash service. Food good but not outstanding.
Onion Soup & Niçoise salad & poached pear were so good , I went back Monday & ordered what the diner beside me had on Sunday & it was fabulous !
Very disappointing Saturday lunch with friends
Food was "brunch" only and not what we were looking for. The quality was fair- quick was heavy- large portion lacking flavor. One of the party asked for no salad but it came with salad anyhow.
No soup option or other creative lunch items.
Overall very disappointed.
I have eaten at the Boston Bar Boulud several times and have had good experiences. Last night’s dinner there was very poor and the service was very strange. There were four of us together for my birthday. We all ordered entrees. Two ordered a salad. When the salads were brought to the table, two of our entrees were also delivered. When we had finished the salads the final two dinners arrived. They
were only warm and my sole was very dry. My guess is they had been waiting under the lamp. The waitress took my plate to remake. After a considerable wait, my remade dinner came. By then, my companions had finished and two of their empty plates were whisked away. I was the only one eating.
It was all very uncomfortable and disconcerting. And the food was fair at best. There was no concerned manager checking with us or offering an apology. However, they did not charge for my dinner.
Amazing experience at Bar Boulud! We ordered the tuna crudo and french fries to start - both were incredible, particularly the tuna. Everyone at the table loved their entree, I particularly enjoyed my duck! Cooked perfectly with crispy skin, and amazing vegetables. Highly recommend!
Waitress was not well trained. The gentleman taking care of our water was far more attentive than our waitress. The sommelier was good also.
Excellent food and service. Server was knowledgeable about menu and wine list. Would highly recommend it when in Boston.
Good food and cold wine.
This review is against the context of the price. I can eat in a Michelin starred place in England for the same money.
Bar boulud food is just OK. Competent but no better. Mostly assembly line food. OK for a modest price but not at these prices. I happily pay these prices for something a bit special. This is not.
Easily the best thing is the quality of the wine list.
The ambiance is antiseptic. No one really cares that you have a good time. It's a place going through the motions.
We had a nice meal, but I expected more. They are pretty small plates of food. My entire plate of the sea bass meal was overly salty. My son had the brick chicken, which was good, but not great. His girlfriend really enjoyed her Coq au Vin- which probably had the most food with the meal. My husband enjoyed the salmon, but, again, not that special. It took a while to get our main dishes, but our server was attentive and nice. I would not go back with so many Boston options.
Eh - staff is not well trained, food is decent but not on par with price.
Looked forward to this because the NYC outpost was quite good years ago. Appetizers and drinks were fine. But my entree arrived rare (not medium) and the frites were room temperature. Sent it back; when it returned, the meat was black on the outside and still cold in the center. Staff was apologetic and we were easy-going...until one accidentally spilled an entire glass of wine on my friend. Manager naturally comped the entire meal, but the damage was done.
Amazing, delicious and great service. Best breakfast in town.
My daughter and I were able to get a great vegetarian dinner thanks to the accommodating waiter and kitchen. And I had a nice glass of wine. The waiter was terrific.
A bit disappointing given DB reputation. While food quality was excellent, the mussels were overpowered by garlic, the medium rare burger was overcooked, and overall it was a good, not great meal. And our server was clearly untrained, with others having to step in to keep things moving.
I love going here for drinks or dinner. It’s absolutely one of my go to’s in back bay. You can never go wrong here, food/drinks and service is fantastic.
Wait was exorbitantly long - we waved down 3-4 servers every time we needed anything (water refill, change of plates, getting our check) and still didn’t get a response until much later. The fact that a meal consisting of two appetizers and a single entree when the restaurant wasn’t too busy took almost 3 hours is ridiculous. Also, we sat there for 40 minutes while waiting for appetizers without any bread - until it came AFTER we were already done with the appetizers. Not sure what’s going on, but this is the first time I’ve been disappointed with Bar Boulud’s service.
Great spot for brunch mid week catching up with a friend. Would recommend it.
Amazing food!! Wonderful service.
I did not like my meal and my server did not even ask "how is the food so far" so I could potentially choose something else. The experience was drawn out too long - to the point where it did not seem purposefully.
Disappointing visit due to very poor service. Starters arrived fairly quickly but we waited more than an hour for our entrees with no explanation. Doubtful we'll return.
The food was absolutely delicious and they had a great wine selection. Our waiter was excellent.
Sadly another example of a celebrity chef slapping their name on a truly third-rate restaurant concept. The so called Frenchie burger was awful. The meat was poor and there was a bitter taste to the condiments. The fries were so over-fried and over-salted that they were inedible. The Coq au Vin was impressive in size, but the chicken was dry and the accompanying spaetzle was rubbery and tasteless. I had stayed away for years because of my doubts concerning celebrity spin-offs, but finally caved and went. I will never make that mistake again.
The price of a kale salad that had no taste was $16.00
The price of a fair onion soup was $15.00. The sea bass was good but not worth $32.00
The fried oysters could have been anything fried and over breaded
I had been here before and feel that the prices have gone up and the quality of food has gone down
The waitress was professionsl
Excellent meal and service. Freshest ingredients and wonderful atmosphere 👍
Wonderful place. The food was excellent and our server was phenomenal - friendly and knowledgeable.
Excellent service and food.
Seated immediately. Lovely atmosphere
Amazing way to celebrate our anniversary!
For the price, lunch was nothing special at all. It was good but not a place I'd go back to. Would rather try other places with my limited fine dining budget.
Bar Boulud is a lovely location with impressive ambiance.
They are attentive and see to the customer's needs.
The food is good but not for the price, and although the bubbly and wine were fine, again the prices are wildly expensive.
A yes or no to the question "would you recommend..." is difficult because I feel badly to say no; except "yes"
to the excessively wealthy that would not care about the costs.
They brought a lovely dessert tray for my husbands birthday
