Sister restaurant to the popular New York and London locations, Bar Boulud, Boston at Mandarin Oriental, Boston is a French-inspired bistro and wine bar located in the heart of Back Bay on Boylston Street. Chef Daniel Boulud offers locally inspired seasonal dishes, traditional French bistro fare and an impressive selection of famed house-made terrines and pâtés by Parisian Charcutier, Gilles Verot. Additionally the menu features a handful of signature sausages and burgers, adding an American touch to this French inflected bistro and wine bar. An impressive wine cellar spotlights wines from Burgundy and the Rhóne Valley , including many fine selections by the glass. The interiors are inspired by a contemporary take on the craft of winemaking to create a comfortable and welcoming surrounding for a unique and intimate experience. Bar Boulud serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, all-day dining is also available at the bar. Walk-ins are encouraged.

The biggest disappointment was the main dish: moules frites. Instead of a “touch of” it was a pint of heavy cream: impossible to finish, overwhelmed the flavor of mussels and the capacity of my stomach. The frites were good but should have been served hot. The salade nicoise was lovely.

escargots were a bit bland and thought pork was too well done.waiter was not very friendly. The experience was not bad, but I would not rush to go back.

So excited to try Bar Boulud, since meal enjoyment is first about the food, then the service, all brought together with ambiance. Clearly, @DanielBoulud, @barboulud would & should be appalled by the food & care.
Reservation on Tuesday, with a specific request for a corner or table by wall or window then greeted FOS was bland & lacked depth. Moving on we chose the Skate wing entrée which arrived with a fishy aroma, concerned, we ct it open to see it wasn’t cooked through & there it was....strong ammonia smell! Stating don’t eat it, had the server smell it & away it went. The assumed Manager, without introduction only pronounced he heard we weren’t pleased with the Skate😳, then said “the chef agreed it wasn’t to our standard”. In my mind, I could imagine a chef was in the kitchen, but perhaps a novice cook.
We then said we’ll have the mussels, out came the well known Staub mussel pot, a side of French fries with ketchup & our previous ordered side of asparagus (for the skate)🙄.
Asparagus was very good! The mussels, lone dozen, were heavily laden with cream (lost was any seasoning, wine, aromatics, velouté base, herbs or even grilled bread.
Needless to say, this was our worst dining & costly experience during our week stay in this wonderful city.
Looking for French inspired food, look elsewhere.

Service was great, but everything else was terrible. Right from the start they were out of many dishes which was a little odd because it was a Monday night. Most importantly my fiancé and I both ordered steak and it was severely undercooked and not how we ordered it. To give credit they were removed from the bill, but at that point we didn’t have an appetite and just wanted to leave.

Mother’s Day brunch. Food was good but very small selection. Oysters were nice but for the price ($110 per person) I expected more high end items like crab legs or lobster. This is typical from other places we’ve had Mother’s Day brunch. Also charged extra for coffee. How can you not include coffee in a $110 brunch. Atmosphere is really nice and good service.

Express lunch manu is good value for money. Nothing surprising about the cuisine bit everything was nice, the service was friendly and the ambiance was very quiet

Excellent experience. They didn’t have all the components for the Charcuterie plate, however, they produced a fine comparable plate that was fantastic. Everything was delicious and the service was absolute top notch. Overall very impressed and will definitely return.

Service is painfully slow when the restaurant is not really full. Table next to us was cleared about half an hour after the customers left. By the time desert was brought to us the ice-cream on top had melted.

I went to Bar Boulud for my graduation dinner with my family and two friends, and had one of the most magical and memorable diners of my life. My experience there was exceptional, with the employees being extremely nice and helpful but not intrusive, the food simply delicious (we started with the seafood platter as seafood is one of their specialty in Boston, which was extremely fresh and the crab meat was... (no words for how pure simple and delicate it was to eat) as well as my family who loved oysters was just so happy, then I had the must have Salade Lyonnaise and the seafood pasta which was probably one of the most delicious pasta dishes I have ever eaten - my friend got the curry risotto and ADORED IT), the pastry chef even surprised us with the most beautiful and delicious cake possible congratulating me (soft dark chocolate cake with creamy icing layers).
The lighting is dim, the tables are quite far apart so it feels quite intimate, and the staff is extremely friendly while being very efficient with service. Would definitely recommend Bar Boulud for a special occasion — memorable night guaranteed.

We went there for brunch. Menu selection mediocre at best. The crab cakes on the Eggs Benedict smelled & tasted fishy. We could have found the brunch items at any restaurant at half the cost. We were very dissatisfied either the food & service.

I had a lobster salad with almost no lobster, and it was expensive. Generally, we really love this place so they must have been having an over busy day. It was noisy and crowded. Drinks are great, service is perfect.

Awesome spring night in Boston.
Greg was out waiter, nicest guy. Very knowledge on all our questions with the meals, etc.

Bar Boulud Boston is very different from BB New York. There are fewer selections in general, fewer choices on the prix fixe lunch, and no 3 course p.f. lunch. Some of the prices are also slightly higher ! Why? We chose the prix fixe lunch. My friend got the paté and I got the English pea soup, and we both chose the moules frites as a main course. Everything was good. One thing I found irritating was how the bread was presented in a shallow box about 5" square. We were given 3 stingy slices, 1 of a delicious olive bread, and 2 really small pieces of baguette, as in the smallest pieces from the end. We were offered more bread later, but I really don't want to feel that my bread is being rationed in a French restaurant.

While the food was good, it was in no way exceptional. This is why I wouldn't recommend Bar Boulud.

We came for a birthday dinner after the Marathon and the place was buzzing. Great service: our server was careful about my food allergy and everyone was charming and attentive even though the place was hopping. The food was delicious: be sure try the gougeres, and you can't go wrong with steak-frites. We were too full to have a birthday dessert, so they sent us home with a bag of their warm and wonderful madeleines.

We were there for our anniversary and they put us next to the big room with pocket doors and there was an event going on at the time, servers were going back and forth setting up food next to our table, it was terrible.

we celebrating my 80th b-day with friends, the noise from the bar was awful, large party screaming and shouting, this went on for one hour and half before they moved to a private dining room. Food was good, service good but expensive, but don't get to be 80 everyday, pity it was spoiled by uncouth crowd!

Duck was extremely rich, which is to be expected, but well prepared. Service punctilious to a fault, wine considerably overpriced, nothing affordable by the glass.

Pricey not especially well-executed food in a noisy room with insistent, not gracious, service. I won't be returning. Too bad, I love the location and the promise of something wonderful.

Love this place so much! Plus, we were staying at the Mandarin which is doubly convenient. Can’t say enough good things about this wonderful restaurant. The service is fantastic and the food is superb! Try the bar area too! Best oysters on the planet!

We had a very good experience. The food and our server were excellent. We were celebrating two birthdays and they served us a birthday pastry which was very nice. We did not feel hurried and really enjoyed our time .

The service was spectacular. The food was really good but not incredible or transporting or amazing; just really well done but for the price should have been outstanding. The ambiance was excellent. A quiet lovely dinner.

After several visits for drinks this was my first dinner. Always loved the atmosphere in bar and dining area did not disappoint. Wonderful lamb loin special and the madeleines were a traditional French treat. Friendly service with a helpful nudge to the Brussels Sprouts salad. Delicious!

The food is perfect in every way. Seating was uncomfortable because we were early and sat in bar area. And the kitchen/service was super sloooowww. Nice but slow. However, it did not hamper the beautiful rose and pate, gougeres and incredible Moules Frites - better than what I had in Reims! HUGE, creamy mussels in a luscious coconut sauce and perfect fries. Delectable in every way. Can't wait to come back!

The place is beautiful and wine list is nice, but the food is not worth the cost. I'd go back for wine and an appetizer maybe, but nothing more. Better food at better prices can be found in other areas of Boston.

WOW, we met Chef Brian Arruda when he worked at Cafe Boulud in Palm Beach. We're thrilled he's now at Boston's Bar Boulud. From oysters to hamburgers, Bar Boulud's menu has something for everyone. We're also looking forward to the restaurant's monthly wine dinners.

Brunch was not worth it. The food was not good. Salad was only arugula with a poor dressing. The quiche was re-heated and dry as anything. Everyone else was pretty disappointed in their food as well. The place was empty on a Sunday morning. For good reason. Overpriced. Not a good meal.
