This restaurant connected to the Mandarin Oriental is definitely worth a return visit. It's less crowded (for no good reason) than many good downtown restaurants, so it's a good option if you don't plan ahead by several weeks.

The coq au vin is a must try! Our waiter was attentive to when we were having great conversation and did not interrupt. I will be returning for when I need to scratch my French cuisine itch. Great wine selection as well.

I loved the Eggs Benedict with spinach added; It was perfect except the ham was quite salty. The muffin was nicely toasted and not soggy and the portion was just the right size. Also the arugula salad had dressing that was a little odd, but not in the good way.

We are fans of Bar Boulud in NYC. The Boston installment doesn't quite match it. (We have also been to Daniel and Cafe Boulud, but those are in altogether different categories.) Service was excellent, but the dishes themselves need more thought. Our worry is that the kitchen may think it is mainly serving hotel guests who want something uncomplicated and good for the kids. Patrons who want something more interesting will go around the corner to Porto or to the two fine restaurants at Eaterly, a couple of blocks away.

Our table was NOT in the nice section (under the warm wooden arches in a booth). I wondered if they placed use where they did because we were an Open Table reservation. I picked Bar Boulud based on the French Bistro-esque menu and the photos. It was just where they seated us did NOT match my expectations. Would have preferred one of the nice red booths under the warm wood arched ceiling. Much nicer. Felt like I'd been "had".

Excelent service and food.
Despite not being a big menu, there were plenty of options for all.
From fish to beef, veggies and salads.
The burrata appetizer was not available at the time.
Beets salad was lovely. More salad options at lunch time compared to dinner.
Salmon was well prepared with veggies purée and side.
Steak and fries was delicious.

Perfect food. Fantastic wine. Excellent service.
Couldn’t have asked for a better meal. Not inexpensive. $180 for 2 with tip We split an app, 2 mains and 4 glasses of wine.
Still, I’d return!

One of the worst experiences with the highest expectations. The service was a bit slow but the food was especially gross. With being attached to such an exceptional hotel, I had expected the food to be equally fantastic. Royally disappointed!

Wanted a special place to treat myself to dinner on an overnight trip to Boston. A friend recommended Bar Boulud to me, and what a great recommendation! Ambience = Perfect, Service and attention = Perfect, Food/Selection = Perfect. French Onion Soup was so delicious as was the Coq Au Vin.

I don't like to write reviews. But after having 3 excellent dining experiences in a row at Bar Boulud, I felt that I should. This has become the "go to" place for my wife and me when we are visiting Boston. We particularly enjoy the ambiance of Bar Boulud which is an improvement over its predecessor at this site "Sal de Terre". We also have been treated with real courtesy by the staff. The menu is solid and I particularly enjoy the signature French country items. We will be back again on our next trip to Boston.

We have been to Bar Boulud a number of times both in Boston and New York. The wine list is notable and we enjoyed a nice bottle of Cava plus cocktails and a glass of wine. For starters we enjoyed the shishito peppers. The lobster pasta was very good but the risotto and sole were both disappointing. As a lover of buttery dover sole I order it when it is on the menu and I have had it at Bar Boulud previously. But this time both the sole and risotto were too buttery - leaning toward over-sauced.

My daughter and I found ourselves making a quick decision about not traveling this Thanksgiving and decided to find a Boston restaurant for this special event. We were feeling a bit down about going to a restaurant for this holiday since we are usually the cooks and surrounded by family and friends. Well, we were so surprised and the great food, atmosphere and wonderful service. To top it off, the turkey was great and so was the pumpkin pie. Although, my daughter had an amazing chocolate dessert and short rids for dinner. As a special treat, they threw in a turkey sandwich at the end (in a brown bag) so you would have leftovers the next day. We would definitely go back for another Thanksgiving dinner.

Serial Sunday Brunchers, we’ve been almost everywhere in Boston over the past few years. Bar Boulud, far and away sets the standard for consistently exceptional, professional, attentive service. Food quality and presentation are excellent, portions perfect and pace is relaxed without dragging. The Croque Madam is the best in Boston (tried em all).

Just this week we were talking about the great service when the manager stopped by just to say hello and check on our dining experience. Perfect timing. Our only regret is not remembering our waiters name for this review, because he deserves recognition (naturally, I got the receipt wet, blurring his name) ... Abd S??ad... genuine pride in his work.

We’ll be back again and agaí. The Mandarin is lucky to have you.

We arrived early to meet up with college friends and sat at the bar for drinks. Our friends met us and shared an appetizer. We were notified when our table became available and easily moved. The waiter did not interrupt our conversation to get us to sit. Dinner and dessert exceeded my expectations. We ordered fish, chicken, and steak all cooked as specified. The meals arrived hot and delicious. Our evening ended with a slice of pie to share. We couldn’t resist the dessert menu but were too full to try the assortment of pies. All in all, it was a good night out with old friends.

Very disappointing!! We picked this restaurant was for the name of Boulud and it is with the Mandarin Orientatal Hotel... it was Wednesday night and four of us went there for dinner. It was not busy, at best 70% full. The waiter must be in his bad mood; there was no greeting , no smiles ... besides taking the orders , he did not stop by asking whether things were all right.... the food was average and it was not worth the money they charged !

I definitely would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and would not go back! Very disappointing!

I was disappointed by this place. I expected it to be really delicious and chic but it was outdated and the food was really not good at all. My soup arrived cold and had to be sent back to be reheated. My salad was really terrible. How hard is it to make a good salad? It was three stacks of romaine hearts with this salad dressing put lightly on top. This meant that if you wanted the dressing to hit most of the lettuce it didn’t. And it had shrimp, on it and again how hard is it to make shrimp taste good? But for some reason they were not well cooked and had too many strange seasonings on them, maybe in an effort to make the dish more exotic. But what should’ve been a nice simple salad with shrimp for lunch turned out to be a very unsatisfactory meal that I could barely eat. My Americano coffee was undrinkable. For those of you who don’t know what an Americano is, it is an espresso with hot water in it. I was charged six dollars for this drink, and it was like mud. Again, how hard is it to make a good Americano? This is supposed to be a very fine European restaurant and I get the sense that they’ve lost their luster. I also note that the restaurant is incongruent with the Mandarin Oriental, the hotel in which it is housed. The Mandarin Oriental is one of the finest hotels in the world, and the establishment in Boston is no exception. The restaurant really needs to be spruced up and the food has to be revamped in order to suitably fit within the Mandarin Oriental five star quality. I also note that the restaurant failed to mark me as having shown up and I had to spend a silly amount of time calling the restaurant back to confirm that they did not list me as a no-show on OpenTable. Sloppy.

Difficult to believe, but this glorious restaurant just gets better and better. There were five of us dining yesterday for lunch; all ordered fish but of three varieties; all were sensational! And by all means, leave room for dessert...the pastry chef is top shelf!

I was surprised that my food was mediocre. I had eaten here 4 months ago and had excellent dinner.
the pheasant was salty and dry, the salad was overdressed. I will think twice about returning given the disappointment with the food.
