This was a fun find with an interesting menu and a great bar and lounge scene. Though relatively quiet for a Friday night, the bar/lounge service was a bit slow, and not great follow up, though servers were friendly and fun. Drinks were fun and creative like the lavender lemonade. Dinner service was very good, again friendly and much more attentive than the bar. The tapas and appetizers were great, we really enjoyed the cheese plate, and calamari, fun plates to share all around. My husband and I both ordered the suckling pig, which was good, but my skin should have been crispy on the main portion and it was not where my husband's was. Little inconsistencies here and there, but overall a fun meal, I would return.

2nd time there. last time food and service was great. this time the wine machine was closed (on a saturday night at 9?), the food was just ok, and the I had to go in search of the waiter who dropped our food off an left us with no silverware. Not the normal china grill experience.

great scene.... recommend it on that alone. However there wasn't one stand out food item so i'd probably just recommend it for drinks or a quick night starter bite.

The food was the only high point here. We were the last reservation of the evening at 9:30, and they made sure we were aware of it, turning off lights around us and finally asking us to move to the lounge to finish our wine (we had been there barely an hour and did not know their closing time when we booked.) The waiter said the lounge would stay open, but as soon as we walked over, it too closed. I've never felt like such a nuisance to wait staff before. Wish they had simply turned us away when we arrived. (We were staying in the hotel and had just gotten off a long flight.)

Excellenent food and service. The tuna and short ribs were cooked to perfection. The luckiest area with the huge screen made watching the game very enjoyable.

This restaurant is on the outside terrace of a dimly lit bar, and in all ways seems to be an afterthought. There is no hostess when you walk in, you have to go up 3 flights of stairs (with no sign) and then walk through the entire bar before arriving somewhere that anyone will seat you, and the staff acted like this was totally normal. But on top of that, the bar itself was made to look hypertrendy, but there was actually no one there (on a Thursday night). The seabass was ok, the suckling pig croquettes tasted good, but the portabello fries were extremely greasy. At this price and with the alternatives available in that area, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Whereas Bar Basque offers a semblance of food identified as Basque, it was not a genuine as found in Basque restaurants owned by actual Basque nationals (as Marichu some years ago was on 46th Street). The atmosphere was clubby and far too open to provide the sophistication of a genuine restaurant. The wait staff was friendly and attentive but it is difficult to understand the menu when the one explaining it is a Russian national. In short, I would not return.

On a cold night in February, the glass-enclosed balcony dining room is fairly empty and therefore fairly quiet, and thus a bit short-staffed, but the harried waiters try to make up for it with charm. The food really should be better for a place of such high pretensions and the prices, but there are some nice bites all the same. A fried egg tapas is a wonderful re-invention of eggs benedict. Croquettes of suckling pig were a standout. A braised short rib entree was on a bed of unforgivably burnt-to-a-crisp onions. Seared tuna was precisely cooked, in a tasty romanesco sauce. The entire menu could use some true Basque pizzazz, and the while the wine list is nice, the txakoli really ought to be poured at tableside, not for show, but for fizz

We were dissapointed here for Valentines Day dinner. My date was not impressed at all, waiter was pushing the alacarte' items, we had very small entree's. The drinks were good however expensive, $14.00 to be expected Im sure. The "Cheesecake" was an absolute JOKE! Ludicrous, small bowl with a berry liquid and a shape the size of a 25 cent piece FROZEN piece of cream cheese floating in it, my date laughed and exclaimed "I didnt order soup" some nerve. All and all 2 drinks, 2 small entree's and some laughable desserts was over one hundred and eighty dollars. We were seated in a glass enclosure which felt like a bad porch, with a loud jazz band and the outdoor movie screen leaved much to be desired, I had to try Bar Basque, now I'm done.

I really enjoyed Bar Basque! As we dined, we watched the Knicks game on the big screen that is on building across the way. Literally, ON THE BUILDING! Talk about big screen! The food was excellent and service was great. The wines are all from Spain, as I recall, and I enjoyed that very much. There are a few sections in the restaurant. There's a lounge area where there are couches for group get togethers, or just a relaxing evening watching the big screen. The dining area is quite large, with sleek modern furniture, and the Bar area with a HUGE selection of booze. It's not great for a romantic dinner, but definitely perfect if you just want to eat great food, sip a wonderful Tempranillo and have a good, relaxing time.

We took advantage of Restaurant Week to have dinner at Bar Basque. The prix-fixe selection was great, there was something for everyone in our party (chicken/beef/fish); we also had a sampler of the pinxtos (small tapas) which were delicious. Our waiter's wine suggestion was awesome--we ended up drinking 2 bottles! That being said, the desserts were a bit of a let down, the banana mousse and chocolate cake we ordered could have been better (the banana had a syrup-y after taste and the chocolate cake had a weird hard caramel coating). I can only comment on the restaurant ambiance which was really cool and offered a laid back atmosphere. Our overall experience was great; I would definitely consider this restaurant again.

$5.50 for a cofee or a tea was ourtageous. I had a coffee and my friend had a tea. They charged $11.00 for my coffee and the refill. I thought the coffee was refillable. I asked the waiter about the refill. He said that the coffee was not refillable. After exchanging conversations, the waiter agreed to take one cup off from the bill. He came back with the revised bill. And he told us it was his mistake. (?) It was too dark - we used a flashlight to see the menu. (We'd like to see what we're eating.) The table was too small for two people to dine comfortably. We had to pile up the bread plates and the butter dish to make a room for our main couse. It was a mediocre dining experience.

After dining at Bar Basque, I can only hope that the unattentive service was due to restaurant week. Unfortunately, I will not be returning for a full-priced meal. The drink list was fabulous, the appetizers and entrees were delicious, and they were accomodating to special dietary requests. Dessert, however, was abysmal and the service was some of the worst I have experienced. We waited for 30 minutes after we had finished dessert to get our check and a full 35 minutes after that for somone (not even our waiter) to come and pick it up. On a "work night," I don't find that acceptable. The poor service completely overshadowed what was a decent meal (aside from dessert). Thanks, but no thanks. Will not be returning.

The food was very good - the spicy croquettes and my wife's beet root salad starter were delicious. I had the seared Ahi-tuna and my wife the braised beef - all cooked beautifully. The decor, however, threw me off. Bar Basque - you get the image of a simple, yet elegant tapas bar - lovely dark wood panel, white marble tables, candles, and stunning plates, served promptly. This was weird. BB was like a pressured cabin of a space ship- very narrow with red plastic paneling with futuristic lights. The hostess, difficult to find, was far away from the stairs and lift, Some parts of the place looked like a lap dance hole. And why the DJ and large TV screen. Too loud and distracting. It suggests lack of confidence in the food.

Eh. The RW menu I felt was lacking. The appetizers were great, everyone at the table loved them. The entrees were good. The desserts were a miss. I would not come here for a regular night, I felt I overpaid with the RW promotion. They do have a good wine list. On a friday night, the lounge/bar area is more so for an older crowd. I wouldn't come back.

Turns out the night we went there was some super-meetup happening there, which unfortunately meant that the waiter was completely absent most of the time we were seated. The food was decent and started off well enough (croquettes were small but good). After a handful of tapas I had salt overload. The Jamon Iberico de Bellota Fermin was not worth the premium. Perhaps if it were paired with melon to cut the salt, it would have been better. The Crispy Suckling Pig main was decent but the portioning with the sides was off. It was a large 3"x3" cube of Crispy Suckling Pig but only a small dollop of the kale and bean cassoulet. The result was a lot of bites of salty pig. Go if you're into the the ambiance and the scene, but don't go for the food.

We did not get to sample the menu although it looked very good. We had a late reservation at 9:45 and there were 2 concurrent DJ events going on which pushed the dining area into a cafeteria style back dining area unfit for the kind of great food they serve. It was too loud for us to consider staying so we didn't. That said the menu looked excellent as did the wine and cocktail list, however surprisingly they did not appear to carry any craft beer at all on the drinks menu which in this day and age was disappointing. The staff was very nice and understanding of our decision.

They sacrificed the quality of their food for an overly trendy atmosphere. It was quite disappointing. Bar Basque didn't score very highly on my restaurant week list of places. I didn't enjoy any of the courses. The ambiance was impressive though. Nice view of a giant electronic light up billboard.
