Loved the food, ambiance and the attentive, gracious staff. Our server was especially helpful in selecting a wine. A bit pricey considering the more casual vibe but we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

I love Bar Avignon! Granted we live walking distance but the local and fresh food and service is outstanding. Menu is always changing so every time is a new experience. The owners Nancy and Randy are great, they know our names and make us feel as if we are visiting friends. Great for any occasion, highly recommend :))

The new menu was delicious in all respects -- pasta, which we shared; mussels -- delicious; halibut (I think) with greens and chickpeas; perfect Gorgonzola dolce. And really nice wine by the glass. Our server was just attentive enough. It was great to have a special meal with a special friend, celebrating, belatedly, a special birthday.

Worth the wait. Bar Avignon has been on my list for awhile and finally was able to go. It is a very small restaurant but they have a great bar, a private large table in the back you can rent out and all of the servers and hostess were very friendly, attentive and informative. For us it was the right mix of being there enough, while not being overbearing. The food was great. We had the soup, mushroom risotto, pork chop and pot de creme for dessert. I will definitely be back. Oh and the cocktails and wine were excellent. I recommend the Roxy's sour.

Charming spot with attentive and quality service. Menu is diverse and just upscale enough. Great choices on the 3 for $33 many for dining month.
Special thanks to the host for seating us early.

We enjoyed our Portland Dining Month meal. The surprise of the night was how good the Rabbit Pot Pie was. Only one of us ordered it but more of us should have! My preference would be for the watercress soup to be served cold; hot just didn't seem right. All in all it was a nice meal with good friends.

We were seated at the bar, which I thought was going to be less pleasant than sitting at a table, but I am so glad we were seated where we were. The staff was extremely friendly and even though our server was constantly busy, he still tried to make small talk with us as he was preparing drinks in front of us. The risotto and the rabbit pot pie had such wonderful deep flavors that we were disappointed we ordered off the Portland Dining Month menu instead of the normal menu, because you get smaller portions when ordering the dining month entrees. We will be going back for both of these dishes, and the friendly service.

Great, friendly staff and the food was amazing. We both had the duck "pot Pie" which was really just wonderful duck stew with a square puff pastry floating in the middle. It was excellent. Also good wine selection at reasonable prices.

Unfortunately using open table; we were not made aware of the payment restrictions ie only 2 cards per table and no separate checks; as it was a ladies group ; it was a bit of an issue

I decided to come for an early dinner during Portland Dining Month. Since I usually eat later, I wasn't particularly hungry when I arrived, which was lucky since it was happy hour. I had a very nice house wine and a half dozen oysters ($1 each!!), which were quite small but oh-so-delicious, followed by some warm marinated olives. After yet another HH appetizer, the charcuterie of the day, I was ready for another glass of wine and dinner. I ordered the soup, which was delicious, beautiful, and light, followed by the rabbit pot pie. It was very hearty, with lots of rabbit and a lovely puff pastry crust on top. I am not a great fan of dessert, but the chocolate pot au feu was a perfect ending to the meal. The only less than perfect parts of the evening were that I was seated in front of the door and was hit by a cold draft each time it was opened, and that a woman came in half way through my meal covered in perfume to the point that I could hardly stand it. As far as the seat, I should have asked to me moved, and as to the second, I would have asked to be moved if I wasn't mid-entree. Neither of those was the restaurant's fault, though. The food was just perfect, and the staff were uniformly friendly, helpful, and efficient. Not an inexpensive evening, even with PDM prices, but worth it. I'll definitely be back!

We were a couple of foodies at Bar Avignon for the first timeto enjoy the Portland Restaurant Month prix fixe menu. We drove all the way across town from Aloha in rush hour traffic (only took 30 minutes - don't be scared!) and it was worth it!! We had a lovely time - great food, excellent and accommodating service, charming atmosphere. Our meals were delicious and inventive, made with fresh, local ingredients. (We know they were local because we ran into the owners next day at the Portland Farmers' Market!) Adjustments to suit our dietary needs were cheerfully accommodated. The spinach/watercress/mint puree soup was fresh, subtle and delicious. Rabbit pot pie was delicate and warming. The pork chop with polenta was manly yet tender. Pot de creme and and panna cotta were both outstanding - the first deeply, richly, rewardingly chocolate; the second a delicate custard topped with apple butter and granola. At our request, they came up with a wine flight to match each of our dinner choices as well as our personal wine palates. Perfect. We recommend Bar Avignon highly, and plan to make that 30 minute drive again soon!

Solo in Portland for three days, I ate at Bar Avignon two evenings out of three. The counter seat has to be the best seat in the house, especially if you are eating alone. Friendly, attentive service from every member of the staff. Excellent food and lively local ambiance. My duck confit caesar with butter lettuce was a dish to be remembered. I have eaten here on a number of occasions when I was in town with friends and family. If I lived in the neighborhood, this would be my local and I’d eat here once a week without fail. Brilliant! And if you ever wondered about Amaro, this is the place to try it.

We've dined here several times and it continues to be a place we will return to again and again. A summary would be great food with great service in a friendly setting. Topping it off is an excellent cocktail and wine list.

Tried this place for Portland dining month. There were plusses and minuses to me. I didn't like the really intimate seating arrangement. It was awkward knowing everyone can hear what you are saying and vice versa. Intimate but not really intimate, awkward. Also, we were in and out in an hour, thus it felt rushed. Everything was overly prompt. That said the food was good and the wine good, and I bet the cocktails are good. If I did go back I'd maybe go for happy hour at the bar or something.

Great service from a genuinely friendly, and knowledgeable staff. Excellent food. Cozy, upscale casual atmosphere. Extensive wine list and carefully crafted fine cocktails. We had a seat at the counter to watch the kitchen, and had a fantastic evening trying the coursed dinner for Portland dining month. We will be back for some of the beautiful dishes we saw prepared for the regular menu.

We came for Portland Dining Month and were not disappointed. The rabbit was so good that I wish I could eat it everyday. The restaurant is cozy and we were sat at the bar, but we were entertained by watching the cooks prep all the food. We will definitely be returning.

Portland Dining Month was OK experience.
I liked the Choc dessert the best. Pork cho is quite dry and the greens are ok. Risotto is good and the cheese on risotto was the best combination.

Not sure if i would like to come back.

We ate here for the first time as part of Portland Dining Month. I had the pork chop and polenta, my husband had the rabbit. We both went for the watercress soup and chocolate mousse. Everything was tasty and well prepared. Staff was friendly and attentive. It's in the neighborhood of our small business, and don't know why it took us so long to get there. We will definitely be back.

Went during restaurant month. I will say upfront that it is difficult to rate a restaurant when they have to adhere to 3 course meal for $33, which is a pretty minimal amount for a restaurant to produce 3 quality courses. Kudos for the restaurant having choices for each course. Group of 4 of us, 3 who had the watercress soup for starters. All were disappointed. Watercress is peppery, which this soup was not; it mainly had a grassy flavor. 2 of us had the rabbit "pot pie" for the entry which we agreed was very bland and flavorless. Saw friends who were on their way out from dining there and they agreed about the rabbit. The pork chop was very good, cooked perfectly, probably the best entree choice. We got 2 each of the panna cotta and the chocolate pot de creme for dessert. The panna cotta was a sub for a berry crumble, which was unfortunate since now both dessert choices were soft. Not a fan of panna cotta and this one didn't change my mind, but I loved the pot de creme. Our waitress asked about our courses and I mostly gave her honest feedback. Since we were a disappointed overall she poured us all a free after dinner drink, which was a great gesture. She was excellent. Wine list is pricey, with bottles starting in the high 30's, but the bottle we got was tasty. I would say that besides filling up tables during a slow month, the main goal for any restaurant during restaurant month is to get diners to return when it is not restaurant month. I don't thing Bar Avignon did enough here for us to do that.

Went during Portland dining month. Started with a French 75 with botanist gin. watercress soup which was smooth and tasty, could have used a little more salt. Risotto with truffle oil was a highlight. Chocolate pot de creme was amazing! Finished with the Laphroig 10 year cask. Would definitely like to return for full menu but couldn't pass up the excellent dining month options.
