The food was INCREDIBLE probably the very best steak I have ever had, and I've had a lot. If you like your steak charred on the outside and tender as butter on the inside, get the NY strip! Wine list was amazing as well. IF you are going before a show allow yourself a full 2-2.5 hours before show time so you can enjoy. We planned 1h 45m ahead and honestly felt rushed to order, eat, and leave. No time for dessert, or really for the pre-dinner cocktail we ordered. That was my only complaint, was feeling rushed by the wait staff, but I'm sure it's for good reason, and they've had their share of people missing their show start time and getting upset about it. So GO EARLY and enjoy the wonderful food and wine!
Food was good, but I couldn't hold a conversation with my dining companion as it was just too loud. He heard about every third word I said, I heard about 1/2 of what he said, and neither of us is hard of hearing. Too bad because it's a beautifully designed space, and the food is interesting and tasty.
This place is "top notch", from the food to the service to the decor. The wines by the glass were very good. Our crispy fried oysters were excellent as were our entrees of lamb chops and rack of pork. The service is very attentive and friendly, not stuffy & formal. Your bill will be high but worth the cost.
I would expect nothing less from chef Bobby Flay and I was right. The ambiance was wonderful and the food was fabulous. I never thought I could be wowed by potato chips and blue cheese. It’s also nice because you don’t feel intimidated like some high end restaurants make you feel. Great night!
Had a great meal at Bar Americain! Service was impeccable. The cioppino and the skate were fantastic. Went before the theater and our waiter made sure we had an enjoyable meal in time to take the short walk to our show.
There is much to like on the menu -- and we will be back to explore other delicious options.
Best part: dessert! Exceeded expectations by a long shot.

Food is delicious. I had always wanted to eat at one of Bobby Flay’s restaurants. The restaurant was very quiet as we were the first seating. There was plenty of waitstaff but mostly we were ignored. Very strange. Waffle and omelette were excellent. Delicious bread basket came after the meal. Getting a coffee refill was a challenge. A staff member literally walked by, looked into my empty coffee cup, looked at me as I asked for a refill, then looked away and kept walking. It was so comical my friend broke into tears laughing. Coffee was very good though.
They seated us in the "loft" even though the restaurant was only about 20% full when we arrived for our 6:00 pm reservation. Nothing going on up there. Told them we were going to a show but still waited nearly an hour for our food. They set the two fish dishes down in front of the wrong people, and since they weren't quite like the menu had described, we had a little trouble figuring that out. Overall, our waiter James must have figured we were a bit below his social station because that's how he treated us. The food was the only saving grace - Bobby's usual creative excellence. Alas, Bobby wasn't there like he was last time.
I had much higher expectations. The menu was pretty blah, and 35 dollars for fried chicken is absurd. I had mussels and they were nothing to write home about. The fries were dry, and hard. My mother had a delicious piece of fish - the snapper in a Florida style. My father had over cooked pasta. The chopped salad was very good, and so was my father’s caesar. The service was very lack lustre. I have paid the same amount in NYC, for much better dining experiences. I would not go back.
I had been to Bar Americain a few years ago ... what a difference between then and now. Experience overall was sub par. Considering the few people there on a Thursday evening, service was slow (despite MANY wandering waiters), dinners/sides delivered at considerable time delay (10 mins or so) and frankly, the food was disappointing. Perhaps this place has run its course. Whatever the case, with the many other options to choose from in the city I doubt that I'll be back.
I have dine at Bar Americain before and my favorite dish was the Duck by Bobby Flay. Unfortunately is out of the menu. But one of the appetizers that you can never go wrong is the tasting from the Raw bar. Is excellent. Good selection of oysters as well. Very Good wines. Service as always is excellent.
Good restaurant, I will go back. Decor and ease of access was good (on a Monday night). Wait staff, Carlos and Dave the Manager were great. I had the NY Strip medium rare and it came rare, but was tasty. My daughter had a salmon plate that was raw also and had to be sent back. It was just chopped up, blackened then sent back. But the cherry pie at the end was great and we had the blue cheese and cooked potato chip thing, of which they had about 15 of them under a heat lamp on the counter, not bad but not really tasty. But I will give them a second chance though.
So I was very excited to try some of the famous Bobby Flay food. After having a great appetizer sampling of shrimp, lobster, and crab, we were even more excited for the entrees. However, the complimentary bread was not good. Then the onion soup came. My wife added salt nearly every bite and said it lacked flavor.
I received a ny strip steak. I ordered it medium rare and received a medium rare center but well done on both ends. The steak itself lacked flavor. Seasoning was minimal, and the steak was not tender. The steak knife had to work hard to cut through the steak. Even still, it had very little flavor. I compared it to my local diner, not an iron chef the likes of Bobby Flay. We ordered cappuccinos at the end, which were great. Service was extremely slow. We waited a long time in a seemingly empty restaurant for every step including check and payment. Extremely dissatisfied. I expected better.
Our waiter was disinterested in us once the order was taken. In fact, I'm not sure we ever saw him again until he hurriedly cleaned off the table and handed us the bill without asking about desert or coffee or anything for that matter. He got one order wrong and it was the maître d'hôtel whom I had to summon to correct such. A brusque server assistant snapped at us that we were done with the bread — I have no idea what he intended to say — until I asked him please to bring more. It was a disaster and I will never, ever return.
Superb meal from the oysters and Ketel One Martini to deviled eggs,with pickled,shrimp and the incredible Ciopinno, this was a great experience. My waiter Oges did a splendid job. Dessert was a resplendent BlackBerry souflee. Kudos to Chef Flay and his staff.
My friends and I went for my birthday dinner. Turns out, this restaurant does not do a "birthday" dessert. Our server was a little weird and though my friends tried to do the big "secret birthday surprise," the server ruined it then tried to charge them for it. They were both very bummed. No biggie, but they worked really hard to make it nice for me.
Bar Americain is one of the most consistently good restaurants in NYC. I always enjoy my time there mainly because of the atmosphere as the restaurant is well designed and it never feels crowded. The ceiling is high, the area is spacious and it's never noisy which makes for an excellent setting for a get-together or a date. Also the food is great and there is a smart variety of dishes to choose from because the dishes offered cater to everyone's taste. Finally, the service is very good however some dishes feel overpriced ($15 for 1.5 deviled eggs?).
I personally keep going back because of the raw fish selection which are some of the best seafood amuse-bouche I've ever tasted. This evening I opted for the moule et frites which were sublime.
Visiting family in the city and decided to try one of our favorite chefs restaurant from the food network channel. Everything was great. I am still craving another serving of the salmon dinner I had. The waiter we had was professional, knowledgeable and entertaining. Can't wait to go back.
