Menu and waiter descriptions did not
reflect the entrees presented. One entree was returned; one had fresh ingredients that were thrown together (salad chopped with lobster and avocado served in a glass) another would take take too long to describe the variation.
Would not return nor recommend
It. Should have rated it poor !!

The food was absolutely amazing! Could have been one of the best meals we have ever eaten. From appetizers to dessert everything was wonderful!

Although Service was excellent and dessert was DELISH the meal was not worth the prices . Soup was nt even hot. Kentucky hot brown was underwhelming. You are definitely paying for the Bobby Flay name here but he forgot thst every service should be best it can be...disappointing

I love Bobby Flay's other restaurants, so I was looking forward to our brunch at Bar Americain. Our first course, deviled eggs with pickled shrimp remoulade, did not disappoint. It was, however, the star of the meal. I had ordered the fish tacos, which were dry as dust. They didn't come with lime or lemon, so I had to ask for that, in an attempt to add some level of juice or moisture. The platter did come with a little dish of chipotle-type sauce that neither I nor my dining companion cared for, so I ate them dry. My friend had a salad, which she did say she enjoyed.

Based on the cost and the ambience of the room, as well as that it is from Bobby Flay, I was expecting a higher standard.

Food was amazing! Service was horrible. Took them forever to pick up our plates once when we were done even though the waiters walked by 3-4 times looking straight at them even after we pushed them aside & water was a rare thing to come by...

Beautiful place. I love the lighting. The attention was good. Not so crazy about the dinner. I was expecting maybe much more from Bobby. I came from Miami to celebrate my daughter's birthday in NYC. It has become a tradition to come for her birthday... I did my homework in Yelp and found this place. I see Bobby's show and I do love his cooking style. Unfortunately I was expecting a larger list of selection. I asked for a ribeye steak which i found pretty dry. My daughter asked for fried chicken which was ok... prices are not bad for the location. I love the atmosphere. Quality local crowd. I might come back for wine and appetizers.

Went here on a trip to NY, it is very close to Time Square and Broadway, so the location is great. I got the sampler of lobster, crab and shrimp for an app. They were all WONDERFUL. For dinner I got the eggplant pasta, the pasta was VERY al dente/almost under cooked. It was just ok, not much eggplant at all. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Service was good, I would go back and try something else for dinner.

My lamb chops had to be refired. The bread is never warm. The drinks and overall food are pretty amazing. The manager r front of house guy is perfection BUT NOT SURE I'LL GO BACK. I'm single female n black. Travel a lot for business n leisure. Lived in nyc n often go to high end restaurants. Both times I've been alone here I've been seated at the same table next to servers' counter in the back. While everyone is courteous there's a vibe that feels unwelcoming, a tone that feels condescending. It's just uncomfortable.

It's hard to go wrong with a Bobby Flay restaurant and Café Americain is no exception. I tend to be considered by most to be a "foodie" and an international one at that. This experience, a birthday celebration with friends who traveled into NYC was an experience of a lifetime. By far, the very best lamb porterhouse that I have ever eaten. It would be hard to imagine a more attentive and qualified server than Lucas (if you go; ask for Lucas - he will make the evening truly memorable) and Simon (our Sommelier) found a beautiful 2002 Barolo that paired with the lamb like nobody's business. Closing the evening with a very nice 40-year Fladgate paired with the cheese plate and the apple crepes made the occasion feel very much like "An American in Paris" experience.

Love Bar Americain.....have dined there many times. Always a great experience. Only this time the waiter was inattentive, mixed up drink orders and was insistent on his opinions when he should have just honored our requests.

Our go to always! Every meal never dissapoints. Start with onion soup, any entree, martini and finish with expresso and profiterole, no mistake. Our last dinner we had the lamb and mussels and fries, always amazing! Consistently incredible.

The meals were creative, spectacularly conceived and prepared. Great service, pre theatre, apps, meal, desert. One desert was Awol and some confusion on the bill, cheerfully remedied. Three bar items on the menu were not in stock. Should not be difficult to keep booze in stock. Great experience, despite the nicks, many return visits expected

Bobby Flay's reputation is warranted…there were two menu items we ordered that were absolutely sublime and inspiring. The deviled eggs appetizer has dwindled from 5 halves to 3, but the entree portions were ample. The cornbread in the breadbasket was outstanding, but the other rolls were surprisingly ordinary for such a high end restaurant. I recommend the skate, if you like fish; the sauce is memorable.

Nice high vaulted ceilings, and the staff was friendly, but ours was not attentive enough - we finally flagged down another waiter to have a drink refilled.

This restaurant is closing in January. It is a shame, because the big open space is special, and Bobby Flay's patented spicy, interesting sauces and inventive dishes will be missed.

My husband and shared shrimp and grits, that was delicious....then he had the sea bass with the green beans and I had the mussels in green chili sauce, and everything was cooked so wonderfully, generous portions, amazing flavors. we then shared a masterpiece: the blackberry souffle: light, fragrant, beautiful. it was just amazing. small downsides: uncomfortable seating, dirty restrooms...

Have been to Bobby Flay's restaurants Gato and Mesa and this one is definely lowest on food quality, service and noise. The apps Crab cocktail and pumpkin soup were very good but main (pasta) was fine but nothing special. Cocktails were good but glass of red wine recommended by waiter as his "favorite" was horrible. He also never came by to ask how the wine was even tho it was not a full house by any means. This was our one big dinner out and was expecting more...

We were so disappointed!!! It was supposed to be the ending of a perfect day. We were celebrating our Daughter's birthday with a Broadway show, and a day in NYC. It was an awesome day until we came here.

Our daughter always wanted to eat at a Bobby Flay restaurant so we thought this would be the place. Sadly it was bad from beginning to end!!

To start our waiter did a better impersonation of the Phatom, than the one we see on Broadway. Our drinks were never refilled the entire dinner. Other staff brought out our food and our waiter never stopped by to ask how everything came out.

The food was beyond below par!! Seriously, we could have dealt with bad service if the food had been awesome, but not even close. We got the thin crust pizza as an appetizer. Really greasy, and tasted cold. We also got the fresh cut chips. I had seen them sitting under the heat lamp the entire time we were there, so not very fresh cut. My wife and one daughter got the pasta with eggplant. This was laughable, the portion was so small and we counted maybe three tiny pieces of eggplant, plus zero taste. My other daughter got the fried chicken. When she went to cut it, all the breading fell off and again tasted very bland. I got one of their steaks. I will say it was probably the only edible thing we ordered.

Bobby Flay is clearly trying to cash in on the unsuspecting theater crowd. He should be ashamed!!! We never mind paying a lot of money for a good meal, but never felt more ripped off after eating here!!!!

Lastly, the ombivonce is horrible. The restaraunt decor is as bland as the food!!

Do yourself a huge favor and DON'T go here. We overlooked the other bad reviews because we figured a Bobby Flay restaurant couldn't be that bad....well we were very wrong!! Don't make the same mistake!!!!

Hands down the worst service I've had in a long time. The food was okay. My chicken wasn't cooked through, our server never came back to check on us. The bus staff cleared our dishes and realized I had not touched the chicken. By this point it was too late to get something new. Our sever never returned. We got a new server who provided our check. The manager came over after we paid and didn't offer to help or offer understanding why our sever left.... waste of money!

I have to admit, I expected to be disappointed by a celebrity chef's restaurant. But Bar American was fantastic.

The shrimp and grits were other worldly and the steaks we all had were perfect. Cauliflower and goat cheese gratin -- fabulous.

Perhaps most surprising... a bottle of Marcassin pinot noir that was very fairly priced. Not that Bar Americain is inexpensive, but by NYC standards it is very decent value.

My daughter and I were in NYC and since she loves Food Network and Bobby Flay we decided to eat at his restaurant Bar Americain. We arrived earlier than our reservation and had no problem getting a seat. The place was pretty empty. The food was ok, but not great especially considering the price. I’ll give props to the chips and blue cheese appetizer—it was good! However, for my 12 year old daughter and I to have water, two entrees (chicken and vegetable pasta) and appetizer our bill was $78! If it would have been out of this world good (like my pasta dish at Eataly) it would have been worth it. Instead, I’m a little disappointed and embarrassed I spent that much on a meal.
