This was our first time to this restaurant. At first, the front desk had 5 people huddled together was off putting as it felt we were interupting them. For example the dispensing of our coats was awkward. Perhaps fewer people around the front desk would help.
But we were there for the food and that did not disappoint! We had pumpkin soup and French onion soup for appetizers. Both were wonderful.
My husband’s main course was tenderloin steak, which we do not order a lot when out, but the sauce cooked exactly as requested. Wonderful and tender! I had the lamb chops - cooked exactly as requested and beautiful. Shared a Side of Brussels sprouts lovely and my husband loved the cauliflower.
Definitely a meal to remember would recommend this restaurant.
Our servers were great and attentive.

Been customer for last 12 years -sad they are closing doors in January . It has been our NYC home when in town to visit our son. We have hosted many dinners and brunches here. Seafood tastings and platters are fun and tasty to share . Beignets and hot chips incredible choice for non seafood eaters. Shrimp and grits, pot pie, fried chicken all great. Desserts inventive and good. Exceptional drinks especially Bloody Mary. Service and management staff are lovely -sad to see this NYC treasure close .

We had a wonderful dinner at Bar Americain. Our 15-year old son, a notoriously picky eater, proclaimed the fries the best he'd ever had - then the steak the best he'd ever had - then the steak sauce, etc. The seafood dishes were excellent. And appreciated the "happy birthday" on the dessert!

Bar Americain was the restaurant my wife and kids picked before visiting the city for their first time. It did not disappoint. The Lamb Chops and Deviled Eggs were absolutely fantastic. We were early for our reservation and the Bartender was delightful while we waited.

Went here post-theater for my mom's early birthday dinner on a Saturday evening. When we arrived it wasn't crowded at all (5:15 res) but picked up quickly. Still an easy place to have a conversation. We split a steak, the fried chicken, a side of Brussels sprouts and the creme brulee for dessert. Spicy sauce under the chicken was really good, chicken itself was a little bit dry, steak was cooked to a perfect rare and was very tasty, Brussels and brulee both very good. Service was quick, polite and knowledgable. All in all with tip our bill came to about $170 with two glasses of wine, about what I expected and we both left full and satisfied. Don't know if I'd go again but it was a good experience overall. (Gato is a better Flay restaurant).

Service was extremely slow/absent minded, notwithstanding lots of service personnel wandering around. Waiter forgot two of our orders. Had to ask for the check several times. Food was just OK and really overpriced for what it was.

Service is very good. The food in my opinion was rather blah! I ordered 1 dozen oysters which were very good for our table of three. I had steak tartare for my appetizer, which was rather bland. For my entree I had the filet mignon, which again was nothing to write home about. My guests for their entrees had the lobster sandwich, again bland, and
My other guest had his signature burger which he said was tasteless. Atmosphere is very nice, but in my honest opinion, not worth the money. We expected more from the food
Networks golden boy!

Friendly service. Loved hanger steak, red snapper and most of all shrimp and grits. Food was flavorful and came out temperature hot! Peanut pie for dessert was the only negative.

I have been watching Bobby Flay shows for a long time and wanted to try his food. The appetizer and dessert were great - the fried chicken and biscuits were okay. I am from the south and they just weren't as good as what I was raised on. My friend had the cedar planked salmon and loved it.

Menu and waiter descriptions did not
reflect the entrees presented. One entree was returned; one had fresh ingredients that were thrown together (salad chopped with lobster and avocado served in a glass) another would take take too long to describe the variation.
Would not return nor recommend
It. Should have rated it poor !!

Staff was amazing they pulled off an awesome secret surprise for me without letting the cat out of the bag...a friend flying in from Australia. Food was excellent I had Mussels, Mom had the filet we all shared souffle and creme brulé. I am a huge Bobby Flay fan and I had to see at least one of his restuarants on my trip to NYC.. Next time I want to go on the beat BF set. Thank you from Florida!!!

Although Service was excellent and dessert was DELISH the meal was not worth the prices . Soup was nt even hot. Kentucky hot brown was underwhelming. You are definitely paying for the Bobby Flay name here but he forgot thst every service should be best it can be...disappointing

I love Bobby Flay's other restaurants, so I was looking forward to our brunch at Bar Americain. Our first course, deviled eggs with pickled shrimp remoulade, did not disappoint. It was, however, the star of the meal. I had ordered the fish tacos, which were dry as dust. They didn't come with lime or lemon, so I had to ask for that, in an attempt to add some level of juice or moisture. The platter did come with a little dish of chipotle-type sauce that neither I nor my dining companion cared for, so I ate them dry. My friend had a salad, which she did say she enjoyed.

Based on the cost and the ambience of the room, as well as that it is from Bobby Flay, I was expecting a higher standard.

Food was amazing! Service was horrible. Took them forever to pick up our plates once when we were done even though the waiters walked by 3-4 times looking straight at them even after we pushed them aside & water was a rare thing to come by...

Beautiful place. I love the lighting. The attention was good. Not so crazy about the dinner. I was expecting maybe much more from Bobby. I came from Miami to celebrate my daughter's birthday in NYC. It has become a tradition to come for her birthday... I did my homework in Yelp and found this place. I see Bobby's show and I do love his cooking style. Unfortunately I was expecting a larger list of selection. I asked for a ribeye steak which i found pretty dry. My daughter asked for fried chicken which was ok... prices are not bad for the location. I love the atmosphere. Quality local crowd. I might come back for wine and appetizers.

Went here on a trip to NY, it is very close to Time Square and Broadway, so the location is great. I got the sampler of lobster, crab and shrimp for an app. They were all WONDERFUL. For dinner I got the eggplant pasta, the pasta was VERY al dente/almost under cooked. It was just ok, not much eggplant at all. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Service was good, I would go back and try something else for dinner.

Our experience and meal was utterly disappointing. The service was very poor. The food was subpar. The best item that I tasted were the fries. They were possibly the best that I have ever tried. I had the Cioppino. Most of the seafood was cold. It was the worst I’ve ever had. I’m not a New Yorker. We were there celebrating a friends birthday. We all love Bobby Flay! It pains me to write this. We dined at Milos, Patsy’s and Keens Chophouse while in New York. They all were fabulous! We had hoped your restaurant would be one of an unforgettable experience as we found the others to be. We all agree, we want to forget dining at your restaurant ...So disappointing. The most positive thing that I may add is your restaurant is beautiful! Bobby, i can’t help but feel that your folks aren’t representing you well.

My lamb chops had to be refired. The bread is never warm. The drinks and overall food are pretty amazing. The manager r front of house guy is perfection BUT NOT SURE I'LL GO BACK. I'm single female n black. Travel a lot for business n leisure. Lived in nyc n often go to high end restaurants. Both times I've been alone here I've been seated at the same table next to servers' counter in the back. While everyone is courteous there's a vibe that feels unwelcoming, a tone that feels condescending. It's just uncomfortable.

It's hard to go wrong with a Bobby Flay restaurant and Café Americain is no exception. I tend to be considered by most to be a "foodie" and an international one at that. This experience, a birthday celebration with friends who traveled into NYC was an experience of a lifetime. By far, the very best lamb porterhouse that I have ever eaten. It would be hard to imagine a more attentive and qualified server than Lucas (if you go; ask for Lucas - he will make the evening truly memorable) and Simon (our Sommelier) found a beautiful 2002 Barolo that paired with the lamb like nobody's business. Closing the evening with a very nice 40-year Fladgate paired with the cheese plate and the apple crepes made the occasion feel very much like "An American in Paris" experience.

The meals were creative, spectacularly conceived and prepared. Great service, pre theatre, apps, meal, desert. One desert was Awol and some confusion on the bill, cheerfully remedied. Three bar items on the menu were not in stock. Should not be difficult to keep booze in stock. Great experience, despite the nicks, many return visits expected
