Everything was wonderful except the restaurant temp was chilly. Seems about 10 degrees warmer than outside so on a really cold evening like the one when we were there, I think it was below 60. Next time I will be better prepared because I definitely will go back; the food, cocktails and service are outstanding.
Threw a surprise party for my friend - AMAZING service. They helped us to execute it perfectly. Food was amazing and tailored to our food preferences. 10 for 10 would recommend.
The food was ok .. but the service was not good . No character no conversation , no no enthusiasm,
It was a good place. Not phenomenal, but worth going for drinks. They try and get a little fancy on the food so the flavors can get tough to absorb. Drinks are great, wine list very decent. Seats are not comfortable. We had a good time and the place is super nice looking. I'd do a drinks happy hour there for sure. Probably not a dinner again.
Great food and cocktails
The people who run this place are phenomenally nice- and the food 💯. We will return.
We thought everything is excellently prepared and special. Our waiter was friendly and welcoming. We loved our dinner. And the cocktails are delicious.
Incredible from start to finish.
One of my favorite dinners in the city. The food and drinks are outstanding. Do not miss this!
Excellent happy hour cocktails. However the food was grossly overpriced, inadequate in almost every way. For example $21 hamburger came out on a small plate with garnish of one tiny pickle. Hey citrus salad for $18 consisted of mandarin orange with Michaele on a small plate. So, go there for the cocktails don’t expect very good food and it certainly overpriced compared to other venues.
We came in for cocktails in the late afternoon. We sat at the bar and had a great time. The cocktails were exceptional.
really tasty food - unusual recipes with great flavor - scallops we outstandings
This was one of the worst eating experiences I've ever had in my 30 years in San Francisco, certainly at this price range. First off, they got the order wrong so that our party didn't get our food at the same time. The chickory salad was completely over doused in an extremely vinegary dressing. We also got the hamburger, which was bland and tough and didn't come with any sides. I was not able to finish it. Finally we got a crab custard, which had very poor tasting crab and the custard was crumbly not smooth. That went unfinished as well. This was supposed to be special birthday dinner for my mother visiting out of town and turned into a huge embarrassment.
I would only recommend this place for a drink and a quick bite. We came for dinner, and while the ambiance was very nice and the service was on point, they had run out of oysters and both fish dishes on the menu. The menu is not large, and our reservations were at 8am. So disappointing.
The prices shocked us.
Having read Thad’s entertaining and knowledgeable spirits book I became a convert and made the obligatory pilgrimage to SF (all the way from Boston) to imbibe everything he had mentioned on his book.
My expectations might have been too high. To start with, our table was right under a burned out bulb which made a dim place even dimmer.
The server gave me a vague ‘we can stir you in the right direction’ when asked about the spirits mentioned in Thad’s buying trip. And as far as his recommendations for pairing drinks with food, “ anything went with everything”.
So off we were on our own to an uncertain race. Calvados & Armagnac I’ve always had at the end of a meal, so it was Agave for me & H.G. Wells for my companion. We chose charcuterie to go with them.
The six slices of the sage salame must have been cut with a surgical mandolin, making them thinner than a communion wafer. The moutarde for the chicken liver blended with the wooden board and was invisible given the darkness we were under. We found it accidentaly when reaching for the bread, but by then when we had already finished the pate.
Grilled mackerel was outstanding and would have loved to have had some cold sake with it, instead of whiskey. My friend ordered the burger which apparently did not hold a candle to Zuni’s.
Desserts were an afterthought. We had already gorged earlier that afternoon on chocolate at Dandelion’s so we were puzzled by encountering them again on this menu.
A Tarte Tatin would have been perfect with a shot of Calvados, but it was not in the menu, showing Bar Agricole obliviousness to the harmony between the right food and drink.
Been to Bar Agricole before and had a very pleasant experience..that was two years ago. When visiting friends in SF again, I naturally decided to book a table for a birthday dinner. In being constructive as possible, the visit this November redefined the extent to why I would return. We got there at 8PM and were seated at one of the booth tables by the bar. Though it was a weekend evening, most of the space was empty and it wouldn't have been a table anyone would have loved sitting at but turned out to be perfect as we were able to get up and ask for water refills and the bartender to send someone to the table. We never had a dedicated server and every person that approached us was different. We ordered cocktails when we sat down and even though there were just three people sitting at the bar, the drinks took almost 20 minutes to arrive--we thought the order might not have been sent to the bar computer to be made. Their cocktails are very good! One lady took our food order and we didn't see her again. Another gent brought out the food and walked away as we were asking for more water. When we were finished eating, we asked the bartender if we could order dessert and she found someone else to send over. We booked on OpenTable and asked for the birthday for our friend to be recognized in anyway, which unfortunately didn't happen. Midway through dessert we finished our cocktails and wanted to order another one, but we couldn't find anyone. Everyone seemed to be in the back of the restaurant or elsewhere. Just as we were about to finish dessert, another person placed a check on the table while asking if we'd like anything else...we didn't ask for the check and would have ordered that second round of drinks but felt we'd have a better time elsewhere, so we paid and left. The entire experience felt like we walked into someone else's home and asked them to make us dinner. We will return but in the future, but just stick to coming here for drinks and only sit at the bar.
Dinner was lovely, but a rather loud group was seated next to us in the middle of dinner which dramatically changed our experience.
The food was great. Super healthy and very flavorful. The staff was really attentive.
Very pricey. Had a date night. Two cocktails, an app and split an entire: $145
I love going to Bar Agricole for a delicious cocktail and a couple bites. It can get pretty pricey for a full dinner but it's one of the nicest restaurants in the neighborhood and often easy to grab a last minute seat or a place at the bar. Service can be on the slow side, which is why I tend to head to the bar. The menu changes very frequently with seasonal delights.
Great vibe, amazing outdoor space (walked past, but sat inside since the outdoor space was booked for an event). Great charcuterie, interesting and delish cocktails.
That chicory salad is like non other - we order it just to have some greens with our food and we all agreed it is probably the best salad we ever had! All courses were delish (charcuterie, burgers, various apps), but that salad was a standout.
We ate fish and burgers and everyone felt sick after that. and we paid +500 for 5 pepole.
A place with a good feel - nice vibe and quiet enough to chat comfortably - good quality food and wait staff with a personality.
Really great food and service. We had Seth design a meal for us for my dad’s birthday and he did an amazing job. Thank you!
the outdoor seating area had just enough warmth from the heat lamps to be pleasant and comfortable. there were two guitarists accompanying us softly through dinner which made the whole experience even better. our drinks were tasty and the food was good. we had the halibut appetizer which was flavorful though perhaps a few too many flavors. the charcuterie plate had fantastic salami and a divine mini pot of pate. the chicken pate and thin slices of what appeared to be just fat were not very flavorful. one server was fantastic and the other who took over was too frequent at the table. all in all, bar agricole felt like most downtown restaurants...trying too hard. i enjoy great meals but my favorite style of eating skews towards a less fussy type of place.
We were having a going away party for a coworker and are somewhat of a rowdy bunch. Our server was super attentive and dealt with our group making requests from all directions. I can't say thank you enough for helping us send off someone very dear to us! The food, drinks, and service were phenomenal. I think we basically ordered one of everything off the menu and we weren't disappointed.
Very cool decor, trendy staff and clientele. Food was good but looked better on the menu. The standard of the food wasn’t good enough for what the price tag promised. Disappointing
The food was good overall. The half chicken was delicious. The cookies were yummy too. Buuuuut, the menu was quite overpriced.
Over priced and over salted food. Not worth it with so many better restaurants in SF
The restaurant was understaffed, empty, and the food was really mediocre. Safe to say Bar Agricole has fallen - and I wonder how much longer it will be able to stay open.
If we could have stayed there, we would have. We sat at the ‘chefs table’ of bar seats and it was magical. Craig is not only a master at his craft but he’s a chief experience maker. As a fellow hospitality professional, I understand the balance. If we weren’t here a short few days , we’d be here all the time. 11/10 stumble upon experience.
Stellar cocktail execution by Craig Lane as usual! Second to none.
Very nice dinner. Great service. Phenomenal bartender.
My party of 4 was surprise that we were so disappointed. We enjoy dining at all level of the SF restaurant spectrum and came in feeling quite open minded. However the execution simply was well below reasonable.
-Highlights: nice space and ambiance, several of the starters such as the Acme bread and the fish fritters were quite tasty. Inventive sounding menu with some seemingly promising combinations, but...
Areas for improvement:
-While friendly and well-intentioned the service was inattentive (one guest finished her drink and was never asked if she would like another, another's request to remove an ingredient due to a dietary restriction was missed and the dish had to be remade) and did not seem well versed in their wine list and how to pair (the Burgundy suggested for my burger sounded promising but was far to light and thin)
-Given the reputation they promote regarding their cocktail program, we were left underwhelmed after trying four separate cocktails
-When the wine recommendation and one cocktail were questioned, the server and bartender agreed they were a poor pairing (wine) and too sour (cocktail)...so...???
-Interesting menu however we all felt that at this price point, even for SF, the portion size was very inadequate and value quite poor. The noodles in the pasta dish, for example, could only be described as crumbly.
-A cheese plate: Fantastic cheeses on offer here, but why only two kinds of cheese? Would have loved to see this expanded.
-For over $80/head, there are plenty of other establishments that will deliver on service, quality, and satisfaction. I hope the team at Bar Agricole smooth out these bumps for future guests.
I went for a milestone birthday for my mom and The Service was horrible. The drinks took forever. Our server kept forgetting our order. Menu was too small At one point, she said there was an entree not on the menu, came out an d got the bill ant it was 4X menu price. UNACCEPTABLE! We should have been told this. To top it off i told them THREE time that it was a special birthday, one to host, twice to waitress. They said the would bring out deasert with a candle then and then kitchen brought out the pie and some ice cream. I had to go ask them and they said “oh yea, we ran out of candles”....THEN DONT OFFER. We had to sing happy birthday in the uber instead. Im just dissappointed as i used to love the food and service at bar agricole and its just gone down so much.
Great food and ambiance. It was a cold night and we asked to sit inside. We were told no despite the fact that we had reservations. When we used the restroom inside there were plenty of seats.
Unusual menu and delicious! Excellent cocktails. Delightful server.
Amazing service!! Inside is gorgeous and it is secluded from the street which makes it feel super cozy. The chefs selection charcuterie was delicious. I would definitely order the burger, it was the best thing on the table! Can’t wait to come back next time I’m in San Francisco!
