I’ve been to Bar 190 several times and I was really disappointed in both the service and food this time. We had to repeatedly try to catch the attention of our waitress and ended up having to use the waitress serving the tables adjacent. The food came out cold and undercooked and we had to send it back, much to the disgust of the waitress who didn’t want to serve us anyway.
I had two other bookings here in the next few weeks, all of which I have now cancelled. The bar is quite pricey, something I haven't minded in the past because the food, service and ambiance have made it worthwhile.
Such a shame that a member of staff can ruin a popular venue.
Not having dined here for some time, my friend and I were only too happy to return for a pre-Promenade concert meal. Having accidentally booked a table in the bar, we had no trouble in getting a table in the restaurant where the greeting was most welcoming - as was the service.
This venue is a gem and exudes quality and good service from the moment you enter until the moment you leave. It is a pity that I cannot patronise it more during the main London concert and opera season which takes place at the Royal Festival Hall, Covent Garden and the Barbican.
Dining before a show at the Albert Hall. Always a good atmosphere and simple but tasty bar menu
Staff are good but the service was a little bit slow. Music was very loud but overall we liked it
It is a nice place in terms of design and location, although organisation and service was not the best. According to the prices, the better service was expected.
Our table was booked for 6.30, although it was not ready when we arrived, despite us even being late and warning the reception in advance about us running late for 15 minutes.
At arrival greeting was very poor and we were made to wait before our table gets prepared.
It seemed that there was a lack of waiters, as it took extremely long to take our order as well as prepare it. Moreover, the order was take incorrectly and some items were missing.
This is a nice bar for a drink. The food is pretty terrible. We stopped here for a quick bite before a concert at the Royal Albert Hall. Will go back for a drink someday but would never eat here again.
We had booked for the pre- Theatre menu and inspire if having about booking reference the waiter was very odd hand about confirming and reconfirming. It took 45 minutes from the time we arrived for our starter to arrive . The family next to us we're having the same problem I. Spite of arriving 15 minutes before us. When their main course arrived it was cold and had to be sent back.. we had to chase our main course 3 times and ended up with less than 10 minutes to eat it. At best our dishes were tepid.
The only excuse was that the kitchen was swamped. When you advertise a pre- Theatre menu and there is only 1 theatre near by you know your schedule.
Seriously disappointing and over priced for what it was. A birthday treat that was a major disappointment. .
Decent enough food but the wait was rather long, and the waiter could have been a tad friendlier.
Very accommodating. We were 7 and when the bar was a bit noisy for our more senior set, they graciously allowed us to move to the library. Lovely evening
I booked having read the menus on the Open table app, which suggested that there is a pre theatre menu here. BE AWARE - THERE IS NO SUCH THING. The menus shown relate to the sister restaurant, and you'll be unceremoniously shown into the bar rather than the restaurant, with a certain amount of distain for getting it wrong. As I saw when I read other reviews, I was not the first to do this, and I'm sure I won't be the last - my view is that the whole layout of the Bar 190 entry on Open Table is somewhat disingenuous.
And the food we did get? I had mackerel - I received one fillet (ie half a small mackerel), a few boiled potatoes, some onion and some salad - for £14!! The bar itself is ok, with some history, but only has two brands of beer (lager) and no cider. If you're looking for pricy wine and/or spirits you'll be fine!
We booked a table for 6, pre-concert at the Royal Albert Hall. They were over booked so they shoved us, without an apology, in the bar to eat off our laps.
We had friends who had traveled a long way for this event.
We will never go back.
We dined here before an event and the Royal Albert Hall, excellent location. Staff friendly but extremely professional. Food cooked to perfection. Cocktails exciting and different. We were fortunate to sit in Cinderella’s Carriage which was great.
Pre Albert Hall gig drinks and bar food. Great fast service to the table. As cool as ever!
Fabulous place for a pre-theatre dinner close to the Royal Albert Hall
Firstly, this app shows a full menu for bar 190 but that menu is actually for next doors restaurant which is also part of the gore hotel. We asked to go next door but apparently they were fully booked, so ended up having bar food on a tiny table. The food was average and took awhile. It was cold in there, most people left there coats on. The service wasn’t great and the bar lady had to keep looking at the menu to make the drinks. The guy behind the bar however was very good and much more professional. I don’t mind paying out for drinks as I do love a good gin but Even this was steep for me. We had 4 drinks, a cheese board and a burger chips, £115ish
Great evening out at Bar 190
An amazing little find. Not a huge bar but it is very beautiful inside, very quirky and historic looking so, good if you like that sort of thing! Had some bar 'snacks' which, were very tasty and the drinks were very good and well presented. It is on the expensive side but we were happy paying as it was a special occasion plus the place has a quiet and relaxing ambience ... was great to be able to speak to each other without having to shout over any other noise. The bartender was also very welcoming and helpful. Looking forward to going back.
Wonderful restaurant. Really enjoyed our lunch there before going to the Royal Albert Hall. However, they had not received our booking made on the Open Table website and they laid on the dining room just for us and called in the chef to attend our order. Bar 190 does not do three course lunches, only bar snacks. We had booked a table for lunch with open table, unaware that there would be no set menus. The maitre Paul, solved the situation by calling in the chef , just for us. We were a party of seven people. The menu was different from the set menu that appeared on open table website. All in all the day ended well, but I shall think twice before I book through Open table website as I was only able to solve the situation with the marvelous help of Bar 190 maitre.
Lovely place to chill and have a glass or two of bubbly. Excellent service from the bar
My favorite bar in London to pop in for a get together with friends.
Excellent cocktails, excellent service. The bar menu was delicious, but very overpriced for the quantity!
Booked a table here pre Albert Hall event as it's one of the few places which is very close indeed and has a menu (tapas / snacks) which is good for a quick meal when you have limited time. Given this I was very pleasantly surprised, and must go back when we have more time. Décor and ambiance was great, food was good (if a little pricy but hey this is Kensington!). Cocktail menu looked great but I was driving (arg!).
Although i had booked Bar 190 for dinner before Cirque du Soleil at RHA it is Bistro 190 next door that actually serves dinner !
Doh but surely i am not the first person to make this mistake ?!
Regardless the waiter was extremely helpful & understanding and actually served us dinner in Bar 190 !
Would definitely go back !
Very nice ambience and classy venue for pre Albert Hall event.
Can be busy so arrive on time (or earlier) if you have booked a table in the bar or it might disappear/be re-assigned.
AVOID THIS PLACE!
This was the WORST experience in my 15 years of dining in London. I booked through OpenTable, which I usually do: got there only to find you don't get a table but a "space" at the bar. OK, not too bad we thought. Then we found out that it was bar snacks only - the staff were busy, but they were rude, food took an HOUR to get to us, was tiny, we had to borrow condiments from another group AND we got ripped off - over charged by at least £20 - we had to rush off as we had to get to a theatre booking. Food was at best average but when you get charged £60+ for 5 strips of chicken and welsh rarebit (2 tiny pieces of toast) and 3 drinks, you know you've been had! I would give it minus 5 stars if I could. And that's not even starting on the music - supposedly a Rolling Stones hangout (yes, in 1968) - but the music was very very loud and very very out of keeping with the bar, the time of year (and I like everything music wise, so I don't think it was me!). It was crowded (well, it was a bar) - but people didn't hang around, and now you know why. Do yourself a favour and don't go there - you can get sneered at for less money and more food elsewhere.
We had tickets to a concert at the Royal Albert Hall and where struggling to find a local place to grab a bite to eat before the show.
What a great find. We actually booked Bar 190 but ended up in the restaurant. The food was excellent and great value. To top it all the service was top class.
It was a great way to start the evening.
The bar has a very nice atmosphere and extremely efficient and friendly staff. There is a good, diverse range of bar food and cocktails are expertly mixed and delicious.
The quality of the starters and main courses is excellent, desserts are rather disappointing by comparison. It is very good place as a one off. The menu choice is small and only seems to change every two months. So it is not at all to be recommended for regular visits, at the most once every two months. This aspect is a marked deterioration compared to past years. The service continues to be friendly and efficient.
Pre-prom at Albert Hall. Perfect for quiet drink and snack and loos far superior to RAH's. Always come here pre-concert. Food always surprisingly good for a bar and wine/cocktails fine too. Surprisingly quiet at 7:00pm but worth booking in case there's a crowd. Staff always seem a bit lost and hanging around at the bar chatting but you get what you ask for.
Unfortunately Bar 190 were unaware of our lunch booking so we were lucky to get a seat. We had assumed it to be a restaurant but it was in fact the hotel's bar area so not really suitable for a meal, as the tables were low. Food was good, but the experience overall, an interesting one!
Everything was right, just the right sizes taste and price. Took my wife there for her birthday and it worked out perfectly.
Popped along to the Gore Hotel's Bar 190 for a pre-theatre lunch with family members last Saturday. This bar is a perfect location if you're going to anything on at The Albert Halll, and The Gore is a welcome change from the austere interiors of modern day white and concrete hotels, which echo so much that you have to shout to make yourself heard to someone sitting right next to you. I normally end up in this bar post theatre, so it was interesting to see it in daylight, which turned out to be equally delightful, with comfy chairs and a great ambience that was enjoyed by all of us with an age range from 23-90! Food/snack menu on offer in the bar is perfect and varied, and the bar staff are really helpful and pleasant. I look forward to my next visit.
We booked this bar for New Years Eve as we were staying nearby, when we turned up the staff were very helpful but the bar was empty and didn't seem set up for a busy New Years Evening, the waitress assured us the bar was fully booked for the evening.
We ordered food which arrived promptly and was lovely, but from then on the whole place seemed to slow down, no one was arriving and the lively music the barman had put on was dying out too, we decided at 11.45pm to leave as the bar was totally dead. It would have been nice to have some sort of count down or build up to New year approaching. It was a real shame as had it been a bit more busier or livelier we would have stayed and spent more money on the fabulous cocktails. All the staff and especially the Spanish Barman were superb but there was absolutely no atmosphere at all.
