Been coming here since it opened and loved it. Out last dinner here was a disappointment. Service was good but place looked dirty. Food was greasy and lacked flavor that I remember.
I would put the quality of the food a step below our local Chinese takeout.
In fact, we would have been ordering takeout from our favorite Chinese takeout. It would have been better and would have been about 60 dollars cheaper.
It’ll be a long time, if ever, that we go back.
Came here on the last night of a week vacation after having plenty of wonderful restaurants to compare it to. The food was good, but nothing AMAZING which made me feel like the food was slightly overpriced. The service was not great. Our waiter came over a minute after we sat down, brought popcorn (which was a nice touch), and speaking quickly asked to take our food and drink order. When we said we needed a few minutes as we had not reviewed the menu he insisted we order some things at the moment so we ordered three dishes and a mojito pitcher. The mojito pitcher as a full pitcher of ice, with some mojito in it and what tasted like no alcohol. A complete waste of money as three people maybe got 5 sips each of the pitcher thanks to all the ice. The best part was that our waiter just put the pitcher on the table with our glasses and walked away without offering to pour it. We had to ask twice for water refills. And when it came time to get our bill, we didn’t see our waiter for 20 minutes after our plates were cleared and had to flag down another waiter to get the bill for us. Overall a disappointing experience that did not meet my expectations.
Service was horrible. non of the meals came out at the same time
Bao has the best edamame ever with truffle oil and salt. The sushi rolls are great as is the salmon and black rice. The put of cotton candy with your check is always a treat.
We went for lunch to celebrate my son's 16th birthday. The restaurant had only one table occupied. There were flies all over as they had the windows open. My son ordered sea bass and it tasted nothing like sea bass. The fish did not have the large flakes of fish. The taste was EXTREMELY fishy for sea bass. Additionally the meat was hard.
The BBQ beef was very salty, and the passion fruit sake had a lump of passion fruit gel on top of the sake carafe. Once you had the first taste of the overpowered sake, the rest was just regular sake.
My wife had the salmon and that was OK. I guess is it difficult to mess up a salmon.
The waiter was nice but he was wearing a very dirty black polo shirt and very dirty black khaki pants. Not a good experience or image for a restaurant on Las Olas Blvd.
Just a overall great place food, service, environment
Dined here with my wife for a special occasion. Recommended by concierge at The Westin. Had an 8:00 reservation and we were promptly sat at 8:05 or so. The hostess was kind enough to set us up at one of the outside tables per our opentable request.
The service is where my review takes a negative turn. Attending to one row of tables outside we’re 3-4 different servers - we had no idea who our server was for the first 5-7 minutes of sitting down. Thankfully the gentleman we got was on his game and advised us to order appetizers first (thank god we did because the plates were large and we didn’t end up needing entrees) about 4 different runners came to our table with dishes that weren’t ours and we were not brought silverware until apps came out. The food is definitely the best part- we got the spicy tuna rice, ribs, and pork dumplings to share + Godzilla roll. All were fantastic.
Only advice would be to structure your wait staff in a better manner and reference table #s when bringing food out.
The food was very good, but the service was totally unacceptable. We had a party of eight and the entrees just trickled to our table. One showed up, five minutes later two more showed up, five more minutes and three more showed up. Everyone was completely finished with their meals before the last two people In the party even received their sushi roll entrees. While the waiter was apologetic, nothing was said to us by the manager or comped on our bill.
Uninspired cuisine and staff. Basic item on the menu not available. Dirty. No ambiance to speak of despite a wonderful location . This place gave us the creeps. We left before the main course and found another restaurant down the street.
Was my first time eating sushi and I loved it!! The service was really good. Our waitress was super nice and honest and that made us feel really comfortable. The place itself is beautiful and I would go back without thinking it twice!
One of the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. Had a party of over 10, took 30 mins just to get WATER, while we watched the waitress laugh and just talk back n forth with nothing in her hands. A PARTY THAT LARGE REQUIRES SOME TYPE OF ATTENTION. Worked over 10 years in over customer and restaurant industry and would never knock on anyone’s performance but this Service was horrible because I know people work for their tips
. Waitress came back to check up once ever upon a moon despise being “manager”. When spoke to upper management, eyes were rolled and not one complaint was taken serious due to the fact they were closing soon. So TIP: NOT GREAT FOR FAST/SLOW OR GOOD SERVICE.
Bao has delicious Asian fusion food, and the classics as well. They have the best edamame from anywhere we have gone too with truffle oil and sea salt, and served warm. The Lobster roll was amazing as is the grilled bokchoy. Service is great and we especially enjoy the wisp of cotton candy when they bring the check.
The food was good. The server was attentive.
They had cool fire light that burnt out just as the dinner crowd came in, so outside seating by the water was rather dark.
They automatically added the tip on a party of 5 (4 adults and 1 child) which i thought was odd.
Excellent food and service, sitting on the canal in the moonlight😃
Overpriced food and service was lacking. Chicken wings not good and takes 40mins to receive. Bus boi spilled soy sauce on shoes. Overall service was bad-server would ask how we are doing from 10ft away instead of coming up to table.
For a party of 12, they were able to accommodate us in the back room right next to the bathrooms, passing the kitchen where all the runners and serve staff like to yell back and forth to each other. On the plus side, it was as if we had a private room aside from the people passing through to use the bathrooms. Our server was very nice and polite. My family from teenager to geriatric enjoyed the food which was pleasant since the occasion was multiple birthdays celebration. My only suggestion since it’s called BAO, maybe have some more choices in Baos??
The chairs outside have nails that rip your clothes. I have two holes in my pants because of these nails. Upon notification, the waitress did nothing but move the chair. I had to sit on a chair that had the exact same problem. No apologies or compensation. This is bad customer service.
Made birthday reservations week or more ahead. No one made any acknowledgement of it or of the reservation itself. Long story short very boring meal for what was planned to be an extravagant birthday dinner. Will not be celebrating near here again
Service was poor. After we were seated, we waited 45 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Waiter never came back over to check on us or apologize for the wait. When we were finally able to “flag” him down, he came back 15 minutes later with the wrong drinks. Dinner came faster than the drink order, thankfully, but we did not feel like a priority to our server after having to “flag” him down numerous times or ask another server to call him.
Perfect combo of great food, great service, beautiful canal ambiance and fair prices.
terrible service, didnt even have 5 tops, wrong place for a business meal. Plus they forgot to return my card.
Beautiful outdoor seating, delicious food. Service was great until the end when he got a little in the weeds. Great night for my boyfriend and I. Thanks!
Another wonderful dinner at Bao. The ediname with truffle oil is scrumptious. We had the Salmon main course with wild rice and stir fried vegetables, healthy and delicious, with a side of bokchoy. The drinks and service were terrific.
Good place to eat, the wait was not long, and my party had fun
Outstanding...beautiful setting on the water with great food.
felt rushed out of the restaurant and fish was bad.
We came here to celebrate my husbands bday. We sat outside by the canal! Nice ambiance. We had a very good experience e..
Complimentary Kimchee butter popcorn was good!
I had a cucumbertini and dirty martini- great!
We ordered the grilled octopus and crab Rangoon (real crab and not ready cream. Cheese - both delicious!!!!
And we split the Korean BBQ which was very good as well.
The night ended with a complimentary cotton candy ( I'm not much for sweets) but it was a nice touch! Enjoyed this place and plan to return! Good service as well!
This place is a gem. The food and drinks were on point and very good. Our waiter Ken was attentive and very professional!!! Although the hostesses were RATCHET- I would definitely go there again!!!
This restaurant was terrible! Do not eat there! It tastes like a PF Changs but double the cost. The waitress was inattentive and had to ask the other staff to get her several times.
I had a reservation for my Birthday, they called me prior to reservation to confirm, which I like! Food was good and service too. The server was always coming to see how was everything
Short and sweet.
I've been here 3 times before. Food is very good, small plates so you can order a bunch and share.
Outside is a bit hot and not much breeze-tight canal.
All was pretty good but they don't serve coffee. Machine was broken - still.
Doesn't seem like they care very much for the dining experience when the excuse is our coffee maker is still broken.
Food is amazing !!
Just ok food, slightly better than pei wei.
Good good good good
Bao has an exciting and different menu of Asian fusion dishes. We have consistently gotten good food and service. This time we had the lobster roll, the edename with truffle oil, and the seafood fried rice. All were excellent. And the cotton candy for the finale with the check is always a welcome treat.
It always makes me nervous to walk into an empty restaurant at 7pm. Given some good reviews, we decided to give this place a try. Some of the menu items were great (Salt and Pepper Prawns, Pork Dumplings) and some were not (Rock Shrimp Tempura) but overall not a bad meal and reasonably priced. I was surprised that for an Asian restaurant they do not have brewed iced tea, only fountain.
This was a quiet retreat with waterside dining. The service and food proved to be excellent with a sushi roll that was a work of art, Korean beef for my husband and nice cocktails. We were surprised to be alone at 8pm on a Thursday, but it was a perfect dining experience.
OMG this was a disaster!
walked in and immediately got attitude from the hostess.. after waiting at an empty hostess stand for a few minutes.
she sat us at a table and we waited for 15 mins and no one came to serve us ??? so i asked a server passing us for our server and got attitude again...???
then a server ran to get the hostess and they stated loudly arguing in the open area in front of the customers the vibe was totally blown at this time..
then the bartender came over and said he would be out server ??? and it went downhill again from there.. there was so much tension from the employees i just wanted to leave but my girlfriend didn't want to go.
then a huge altercation broke out between the bartender, server and hostess and the hostess walked out.
needless to say the night was a disaster, the food was OK nothing special at all. prices a bit high and what a waste of time!
I never write bad reviews and i had to write this!
o yea, the bartender apologized because he saw my distaste and took off a drink from the bill.. i need 10 more drinks to get through that night! hahahah
Had a drink and some appetizers at the bar. The bar tender was very attentive. The General Tsao's chicken was good. The Chinese Ribs were overly sweet and had too much sauce on them. Dinner was very good. Again our waiter was very good. The pulled pork egg rolls were very tasty. Lastly we had the beef bulgogi which topped off a very enjoyable evening. Lastly the cotton candy at the end was a nice touch.
We were sat in a back room with no atmosphere of any kind. The staff member who eventually came to greet us after 5 minutes was the guy that was on his phone and sitting 3 tables down from us when we arrived. I know we were your only guests back there in that area but come on we had to wait until you were finished on your phone and then had no time to tell me what beers you had. Told me he was getting water while I could read the menu which I had to get my wife to translate as he was walking away while saying that.
We got up and promptly left without ordering.
Pity as I had heard great things about the place.
Won't be back.
