Bannock is cool, confident and unapologetically Canadian. Serving the best in Canadian comfort food, Bannock is part grab & go counter, part coffee shop, and part dine-in restaurant. Centrally located at the corner of Queen and Bay in the Hudson’s Bay flagship store, Bannock offers a warm and inviting space for all-day dining and weekend brunch.
Bannock's honest approach to food is rooted in familiar, wholesome ingredients that are reflective of Canada's rich regional and cultural diversity. Dynamic and playful dishes like the decadent Duck Poutine Pizza and the iconic Arcadian Court Chicken Pot Pie are rounded out by a variety of other classic comfort dishes. The cocktail list is fun and cheeky, while the approachable wine and beer list have a clear Canadian focus.

Bannock Ratings and Reviews
The food was very good; however, unfortunately the service was slow. Our server was very nice, and was trying his best, but he was clearly too busy and it resulted in a lot of waiting. We also found the tables spaced far too close together - we almost left because it was so crowded. If you don't like being in loud, crowded spaces, I would avoid it unless you're going at off-hours (we arrived at 7pm).
We had the most amazing young man doing the service. His smile remarkable and we really appreciated not being pressed for drinks. Making a reservation in advance was the best as we were assigned a table a little away from all the noise. Being from Quebec I can vouch for the poutine as being the best I have tested in Ontario. The Acadian pot pie was very tasty, creamy and a good portion size. I will return if I ever have the occasion.
Came with family after the service at the cenotaph. Had a reservation and were seated quickly. Ordered the soup of the day and other regular items from the menu as we waited to watch several other tables seated and served well before we even had anything but water. I indicated the delay to the supervisor but had no response. Eventually was able to "catch the eye" of our server who said the soup was being held back so everything could come together. No break for one as he had soup and another course. The apology was accepted but then surprised at the last choice. Having eaten, we were made aware of the fact we could tip 18%, 20% or 25%!
Very disappointed at the hostess - I made my reservation on-line for 1:15 PM with a request for a table either along windows or wall. We arrived at 1:05 PM the hostess was noticed. At 1:25 PM people arrived later than us were seated while we were still waiting. I approached the hostess who finally took us in but she gave us a table right in the middle.....while there were many empty tables along the windows & walls. I reminded her my request at reservation. She looked unwillingly but seated us along a wall.
Fortunately, our waiter was great & we were pleased at our foods.
From the moment I stepped inside I was impressed. The service was near impeccable- friendly and efficient and not at all intrusive. The food was delicious. I had an upscale version of a childhood favourite, fried bologna and eggs. Very tasty, perfect portion size and well priced. I also appreciated the availability of their non-alcoholic brunch cocktails.
I really enjoyed my meal - it was a dish I've had before - but my husband did not enjoy his at all. This seems to be a trend every time we visit - it can be hit or miss. Nonetheless, the wait staff was (and is usually) very good and the restaurant is fairly child-friendly so I will probably go back.
The server was careful to ask about dietary restrictions, which turned out to be extremely useful since things I thought were vegetarian were not (but were made vegetarian upon request). NB I've dined here several times and can heartily recommend the Caesar salad and the vegetable Cobb salad - both of which I try to reproduce at home.
We had a very very positive experience at Bannock. It was the first time our boys (4&2) hadn't been to the city and we finished the day there for dinner. Although they don't have a kids menu the boys found something they really enjoyed and my wife and I had tones to choose from and very much enjoyed what we had. Serving staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Overall a great experience.
Our meal was all right, but the bannock was too salty and the pizza crust was hard to cut. The tables for two are too close together -- difficult to get in and out -- and the restaurant is really noisy. Our server listed the specials at top speed and seemed pretty bored with life. The menu is appealing and the restaurant looks inviting from the outside, but based on yesterday's experience I wouldn't recommend it.
The food was great, service not bad, ambiance left a bit to be desired. I couldn't get over the ridiculous price of wine. $19 for 9 oz of basic pinot grigio is crazy and should be reserved for fine dining restaurants - which this is not. Even their house wine was $16 for 9 oz.
The food at Bannock is touted as Canadian comfort food so I wasn't sure what to expect but from soup to entree to dessert the dishes were creative, tasty and pleasantly surprising. Service was prompt and attentive. Seating and tables were comfortable even for a tall guy like me. We were so comfortable that in addition to eating we spent about 4 hours catching up and felt totally at ease
Attentive service from a young Welsh waitress who accommodated my companion's multiple allergies. Tourtiere was generous and tasty, though another time I would supplement it with a salad since the ring of vegetables surrounding it was more decoration than a serving. Always reliable O&B. A great Toronto institution.
Great food and excellent service! We came to Bannock for thanksgiving, being on holiday from England we were intrigued to try an authentic Canadian thanksgiving meal and we were not disappointed. Despite having to wait for our table, this did not effect our dining experience at Bannock.
Our waiter was brilliant, friendly and attentive, we could not recommend this place enough.
