I love this restaurant, so not a whole lot will keep me from returning... HOWEVER, they have one waitress who is just awkward.
She waits on my friend and I every time we come in, yet she acts as though she has never seen us before. She always questions me at least once when I tell her my spice level, even though I am very clear what I am asking for.
Yesterday, my check was $13 and change, and I gave her a $20 and she asked if I needed change. One of my biggest pet peeves because I used to wait tables and always assumed the person would want change unless they said not to. So she came back with a $5 bill and a $1 bill and two dimes. Luckily I had some more singles in my wallet - but our service didn't warrant a $5 tip on a $13 bill.
We didn't get offered refills on our drinks. And she completely forgot to bring back my friend's check with the credit card.
I wish we could get a different waitress when we go there for lunch because the food is incredible but the waitress makes it just an awkward experience.
The chef’s special was outstanding - duck street noodles! Cannot wait to go back!
This place was wonderful! We stopped in due to Cincinnati Restaurant week and we will be back. Food was so good and the service was top notch. Our waitress Dana was so friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely have raved about it since our dinner!
Cincinnati restaurant choices were excellent. Panang curry at spice level four was wonderful; my wife had signature pad Thai with egg lattice and it was exquisite
Good food and very friendly staff. Food is not too spicy, don't worry if spicy scares you off. Atmosphere is nice and cozy.
We have dined at Banana Leaf for nearly 10 years. The food and service is always second to none. The entrees are create and the food always has extremely fresh ingredients.
Secondarily, it is one of the very few places that my children eat at and complete their meals. :)
The best Thai food ever ! A must go destination for Thai !
Catherine was a fantastic , enthusiastic new Server... a great addition to the staff. I will say my family loves the entire experience provided at Banana Leaf Modern Thai.. the continued seasonal options continue to delight. The current Street Noodle dish with shrimp & fried egg on top is a winner!
Horrible experience being embarrassed by server, will not be returning.
The restaurant was not ready when we got there but they totally made up for it. The tropical tea is amazing, the edamame was incredible and the red curry was delicious. They even customized my red curry (no bamboo, extra peppers). This place is totally worth it!
My boss & I went for business & although it’s small there was just enough noise we felt we could talk openly without people listening to our conversation. It was my first time trying Red Curry & so glad I did-it was great! I always get Chicken pad Thai so it was nice to try something different-I can’t wait to go back!
My husband and I decided to go to Banana Leaf restaurant for our Anniversary dinner, we have eaten at Banana Leaf previously and we have enjoyed our dinners. We both did enjoyed our dinners until it was time for deserts. I had been e mailed an offer to receive a free desert for our anniversary, and that helped me make the decision on where we would celebrate our anniversary. When it came time to order our desert, I told the waitress that I had the offer, and she told me to pull up on my phone and she said she would come back and push a button. I had starred the offer so I could find it easy, which I did. So I pulled up the offer and when I pulled it up it disappeared, and at the time I didn't know what happen and I started looking thru my email I it was gone, it disappeared, Gone! It was so upsetting because I didn't know where it went to. After we retuned home I could not stop thinking about it and I think I finally know what happen to the offer. The waitress said she needed to push a button. When I pulled the offer up I was trying to make it a little larger and I think I touch the promo code and it sent it to our check for the free desert, but because I couldn't show it to the waitress we didn't get our free desert, which was a bad ending to our anniversary dinner. Very disappointing!
I'm handicapped & steps are a challenge for me, I'm giving low marks for handicap accessibility. Otherwise, te meal & service are excellent.
I had never heard of Banana Leaf. Found it on Google and made reservations for a business lunch. I am guessing that they are still working on interior design, as there is some sign of disorder, but still with plenty to attract your attention. Fortunately, I gauge restaurants less by the window treatments, more by everything else. Everything else was OVER-THE-TOP fantastic! The two servers very VERY personable and eager to answer questions, make suggestions, anything to please our small party. The Tropical Iced Tea was arguably the best iced tea that I have ever had! This review is getting too long...the food was AMAZING! All three of us are looking for a reason to go back.
Banana leaf had no idea about my confirmed reservation.
It was so embarrassing. You guys now have the audacity to ask for a review. It's a shame!
We chose this as a friends’ date night. Our group of 6 had mixed reviews. The service was the worst part. There seemed to be only one waitress and she tried her best but everything was delayed. We had to wait excessively long for drinks and she forgot the extra plate so people were sharing one plate. Also the scallop dish was only 3 small scallops with 3 teaspoons of rice for $30. Not a great value.
Food was delicious, and our "waiter" Max, gave perfect service! He knew each dish in detail that I asked about and was very good about knowing when to check in. The cost is a little more than we intended for a casual evening, but it was delicious!
Many visits to Banana Leaf and this time showed that over several years the quality of my favorite dish Panang Curry was as excellent as it was the first time I had it. The other dish we ordered was a chef's special (Scallops on Forbidden Rise) was equally excellent. Wonderful place for dinner or lunch.
There was no point to make reservation since we had to wait about ten minutes to be seated when the restaurant was almost empty. We had a service dog, and an employee wad trying to contact their owner to ask either to let our group dine in or not. The owner couldn't be reached. The customer with a service dog may want to reconsider selecting the restaurant.
It was a surprise to see tip already included in the bill for a group of five.
It was a great time! The ambiance was great and server was very informative and kind. Slightly pricey but everything was wonderful.
We had the sampler platter plus red curry and pad Thai Goong! Awesome
Quiet date night with great service. Amazing food and drinks.
An outstanding Thai restaurant. The food is of excellent quality and taste. It is presented in a delightful way. Good service always.
Both of our meals were delicious and the spring rolls were amazing. The sauce with the spring rolls was so good that I kept it to have on rice.
Great meal, service and overall date night. Was disappointed that my wife and I were sat in a room with another couple side by side. Our date night overlapped into their conversation and vise versa. Yes they were both 2 tops but in the 90 minutes we were there the remaining empty 4 tops were never seated. Could have been more intimate with space between couples. We will return regardless! EAT THE CURRY!
This is a hidden gem. They rotate their specials and they are very interesting and different. The four of us all enjoyed our meals very much. I have been here several times and will definitely come back. They do have outside seating for when the weather permits and I would like to try that
We absolutely love Banana Leaf! We’ve tried many options from the menu and have not been disappointed. Each time, we are impressed with the food and service. Definitely our favorite spot in Mason!
We had an excellent meal at the Banana Leaf. Both of us tried new dishes and really liked them! The waiter was very attentive and the atmosphere made it easy to talk over dinner. Overall, a very good experience as always at the Banana Leaf.
Food is always amazing.
Ambience and service are great as well
chicken was overcooked once and undercooked the second time. Restaurant still wanted to charge for the dish.
Fabulous Thai food. The Young Cocconut Curry and the Green Curry are awesome.
Chef Pom and his team continue to delight my family with seasonal variety, great flavors, and exceptional service. Feels like family.
First time here and exceeded our expectations. Great food, great music playlist, and great service! We will be back.
This restaurant is a gem. Food is prepared with attention to taste and appearance. Service was fantastic, Tasha was very attentive, informative, friendly. We usually don’t eat out on New Years Eve, but we had a lovely night with great meals! Thanks!
We have been enjoying Banana Leaf since they opened. Since then, I relocted to Chicago (home to excellent food options) and I still make a point to return to Banana Leaf when I'm back in Ohio. I LOVE their curry, and whatever the special is, it's always sure to please. My son and his g/f are vegetarian, and the options are plentiful (and the tofu is great!). I also suggest the tofu tower and summer roll as apps.
I understand they've switched up their hours to improve service. And our waitress was phenomenal -friendly, knowledgable and attentive. We had a great dinner last weekend. The only thing I would say was a bit of negative is it was chilly. But the venue is a historic old house (great views of the Christmas tree across the street - very festive) and the celings are very high. It was also extremely cold, so it would certainly not prevent me from going, but I would take a sweater, wrap or scarf.
Overall, we really enjoyed Banana Leaf and will be returning. However, the service is super slow. Not the place if you are in a hurry. Food quality make up for waiters that don't bring water promptly or refill with ice.
Beautiful restaurant with great service. The food was very good. Overall, highly recommend.
Our waitress was great. The private rooms upstairs are perfect for a small group, especially if you have kids.
Chef uses only the freshest ingredients. He is creative and his meals are both beautiful and delicious. Will definitely return.
The food wasn't hot
It is over priced
We usually have a fantastic experience at Banana Leaf but Saturday was not as good. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks, then over an hour for our dinner- for 2 people. I got the Thai beef special which was luke-warm with zero spice. My husband loved his meal though and the French press coffee was delish. I think they needed more kitchen staff on a Saturday around the holidays.
