Banana Cafe Ratings and Reviews
We went here for a bachelorette party dinner and had such a great time! They put us in a window table which made us feel like we were hanging with people on the street. It was so great! The food was delicious also, as were the desserts! Would definitely recommend banana cafe to anyone.
We had a wonderful dinner at Banana Cafe. The Escargot appetizers were so tasty as were the a Duck Potstickers. The Seafood Risotto was loaded with seafood and the sauce was fantastic. The seafood crepe was also great. We finished the meal with a great Apple Tartin.
Loved everything about our visit. All meal choices we had ordered were so fresh. The freshest fish and chips I have ever had! Loved the mushroom ravioli. Beet risotto...wonderful! Only thing I would have changed is having the lobster mac and cheese come out hotter than what was served. This was our first visit and will now be a staple when we have the time to dine out.
We reserved via Open table and got a confirmation. When we got to the restaurant they told us they didn't have our name. Then they found the reservation but still made us wait 20min before seating us. When the check came they had added 20% tip when the menu stated 18%.
It was ok but not worth the trouble.
I used to love this place. It was very authentic French with an island influence and a great wine list. But when they moved several years ago to the larger building next door for a 2-story space to double the tourists, they lost the ability to store wine, lost the ambience, and altered their menu to a few classic French standbys not conducive to tropical ingredients or the climate. They traded authenticity for easy to prepare dishes and American staples. Most diners opted for a hamburger or Mac and cheese, not even aware of its French roots. Our red wine was chilled because of the high humidity and assumingly poor wine storage, a far cry from the once wonderful wine list.
Many will enjoy the generic menu that was well prepared and friendly service. I was disappointed that the restaurant still boasted its authentic French cuisine and wine. But things change.
Paris brasserie in Key West worth a visit! Server was friendly and knowledgeable about menu. Menu features locally sourced seafood dishes along with traditional French fare. Wine list complements menu, and Imark-up is reasonable and not over-priced as so many restaurants in tourist towns tend to be. Offers roof-top dining.
Banana Cafe is one of my favorite stops in Key West. French inspired menu, wide selection, broad price range, fresh ingredients, good service and a great location on the quiet side of Duval Street. All of this adds up to a great value, consistently good food and great atmosphere in the hectic pace of Key West during season. Does not matter whether it is breakfast, lunch , or dinner the Banana Cafe will not disappoint!
I had been here a couple of years ago and looked forward to coming back this past week. I ordered french onion soup and the waiter mistakenly brought me tomato almond soup and was nasty when I sent it back. He also said that my blue eyed husband "cannot be italian! There are no blue eyed Italians." Just gross.
Not sure why one would use Maine Lobster
When there is fresh Florida lobster here.
The lobster was tough and only 3 or four small pieces in the Mac and cheese.
Very little seasoning. The French bread was closer to American white bread.
My sister had a seafood crepe that was weird...Like seafood soup poured into a crepe bowel. It was not folded over or even rolled. It was placed in a bowl and the seafood poured on top. The crepe around the edge of the bowl was excellent but under the soup was soggy.
The chef may want to rethink his creative approach to both..
Great little place for casual dinner - right on Duval. We had been here several times before for breakfast during a previous visit to Key West, but this was out first time for dinner. Entrees were yellowtail and a salad with shrimp/scallops and both were very good. They serve a pretty respectable key lime pie as well.
The food was good, not great, but was overwhelmed by decidedly indifferent service from our particular server. She forgot to bring the asked for glass of wine then acted like it was something I asked for later. Didn't bring the type of vegetable I asked for; never brought the ketchup our daughter requested for her mediocre fries and veggie burger. Very happy to have free range chicken though, and other servers may well care more. Wouldn't go out of our way to try again, but in that we are in town for a month each year, won't actively avoid it either.
I was a solo diner and treated as if neither I, nor my business mattered. There were hardly any people in the restaurant, yet my waiter did not ask me a single question in greeting (how are you, etc.), never mentioned the specials, came by to check on my only once, had to be asked to bring a dessert menu, and forgot that I ordered coffee. If I could give less than one star for service, I would. Poor choice for a birthday celebration.
We have been here several times over the past 10 years and have always enjoyed breakfast/brunch; the savory crepes are always my favorite. I love the Norwegian crepe with the caramelized onions, smoked salmon, and cream cheese. We are also delighted they decided to have a dinner menu and we never miss this great place when we drive down from Tampa. I highly recommend the stuffed pork chop, but everything from the salads to the sides is excellent. Anyone traveling to Key West has to try Banana Cafe!!!
