Banana Cafe Ratings and Reviews
We wanted a reasonably priced rooftop restaurant close to our hotel for our last night on vacation in Key West with our son and daughter-in-law, and Banana Cafe fit the bill perfectly. Our waiter was helpful and the food was excellent. Would highly recommend.
Don't be put off by the name. This is a suprising good French cafe on the quieter end of Duval St. Ate outdoors on the balcony. Nice choice of French dishes and some American. French onion soup, served a little too cool, was still excellent and the seafood crepe was awesome. Overall a very enjoyable dinner that was priced just right. Only criticism was the service was a little slow but did not ruin the overall experience.
Had an unpleasant experience. We had two little children and they agreed to do grill cheese for them which was nice but not needed. We just didn’t want to pay $78 per child for the four course prix fixe menu. We did order one chicken entry from that selection trying to make things easier for the kitchen. We then were charged a full $78 for our 3 year old even though she only had the chicken from the prix fixe and no other courses unless they counted a simple crepe and ice cream kid’s dessert! New Year’s Eve notwithstanding, it was very early when we went and we were their first guests. They could have handled this far better and communicated their plan in advance. To us this was fairly predatory. The waitress tried to explain that they did so given the grill cheese was added, but they charged us for that as well! They also didn’t disclose their corkage fee to us, merely charging us instead. Corkage fees are fine and expected but their pricing practices overall on 12/31 were very disappointing. It wasn’t worth ruining New Year’s Eve to argue with them vs leaving and trying to forget them. We are saying good bye to this place after many years and special meals. No longer a special place for us and just another price gouging tourist trap.
We went here for a bachelorette party dinner and had such a great time! They put us in a window table which made us feel like we were hanging with people on the street. It was so great! The food was delicious also, as were the desserts! Would definitely recommend banana cafe to anyone.
We had a wonderful dinner at Banana Cafe. The Escargot appetizers were so tasty as were the a Duck Potstickers. The Seafood Risotto was loaded with seafood and the sauce was fantastic. The seafood crepe was also great. We finished the meal with a great Apple Tartin.
Loved everything about our visit. All meal choices we had ordered were so fresh. The freshest fish and chips I have ever had! Loved the mushroom ravioli. Beet risotto...wonderful! Only thing I would have changed is having the lobster mac and cheese come out hotter than what was served. This was our first visit and will now be a staple when we have the time to dine out.
We reserved via Open table and got a confirmation. When we got to the restaurant they told us they didn't have our name. Then they found the reservation but still made us wait 20min before seating us. When the check came they had added 20% tip when the menu stated 18%.
It was ok but not worth the trouble.
I used to love this place. It was very authentic French with an island influence and a great wine list. But when they moved several years ago to the larger building next door for a 2-story space to double the tourists, they lost the ability to store wine, lost the ambience, and altered their menu to a few classic French standbys not conducive to tropical ingredients or the climate. They traded authenticity for easy to prepare dishes and American staples. Most diners opted for a hamburger or Mac and cheese, not even aware of its French roots. Our red wine was chilled because of the high humidity and assumingly poor wine storage, a far cry from the once wonderful wine list.
Many will enjoy the generic menu that was well prepared and friendly service. I was disappointed that the restaurant still boasted its authentic French cuisine and wine. But things change.
Paris brasserie in Key West worth a visit! Server was friendly and knowledgeable about menu. Menu features locally sourced seafood dishes along with traditional French fare. Wine list complements menu, and Imark-up is reasonable and not over-priced as so many restaurants in tourist towns tend to be. Offers roof-top dining.
