This was my second time at Baltic. Really nice food but service was lacking. We were seated in the upper level and not in the main area, and we had to ask for bread (no one came with the selection tray like they did for other tables) and we had a long wait between starters and main courses.
Very impressed by the pre-theatre menu - delicious food, huge portions and very good value. Friendly service, too. Our only complaint was that the restaurant was rather chilly, though we were the first to arrive at 5:30 pm - by the time we left at 7pm it was full and a bit warmer.
Four of us met for Sunday lunch. Our greeting was warm and friendly. We were shown to a good table in a well lit part of the restaurant. We selected from the Sunday lunch special menu which had a good selection of starters and main courses. We chose a fairly inexpensive white wine. The first courses arrived and were tasty and looked good. The pace of the meal was excellent; we were not left waiting for long periods nor were we rushed. This was appreciated as we had much to talk about and catch up on. The wine was perfectly acceptable and complemented our food well. For once the restaurant was not busy and the noise level allowed us to converse easily. Overall it was a very pleasant lunch in a bright airy room with good food.
Good restaurant with good food and service and a nice vibe.
Excellent range of vodkas.
Perfect food for a cold / wet Friday night. The hot honey vodka is worth a trip in itself. Staff very attentive and knowledgeable and beautifully friendly. Have already recommend to friends for Christmas parties. Looking forward to coming back soon.
Superb service and food. Could not
fault it. Would definitely recommend and certainly will be returning!
Baltic gets better and better.
Eight of us celebrated my partner's birthday there last week and had an excellent evening.
It offers excellent value. The staff are friendly. What more can one ask for?
I go to the Baltic quite a lot for just drinks or food & it never disappoints! On this occasion I went with one other to the restaurant. The waiting staff were attentive & not intrusive. We were recommended cocktails for Hallowe'en & they were delicious. The food as usual was gorgeous paired with a dry crisp white wine. Followed by glasses of port & shots of warm honey vodka instead of desert. Happy to recommend this restaurant.
I didn’t expect Polish food to have such sophistication. Baltic provides authentic food, with style and flavour. Service is excellent and the atmosphere is eclectic. I had the chicken liver to start and the salt beef as a mani. Amazing food.
Delicious, friendly staff and great atmosphere!
We have eaten here on several occasions and always enjoyed the experience and the food. On this occasion we were meeting a Canadian friend for supper, someone who has not eaten Polish food before. We arrived a little early and were shown to a table for 4 people, although there were only 3 of us. This is always a good sign, some places seat 3 on a le for 2 and add a chair at the end.
We were asked if we wanted drinks, and ordered fizz and water, the drinks arrived promptly. Shortly after we were brought bread, an excellent selection of 4 different kinds, all were very good. A waitress asked if we were ready to order and was happy to go away when we answered that we were not. We needed a bit of time to explain what some of the dishes were to our friend.
After 10 minutes waitress returned and took our order. Starters were Latka, one with gravad lax, one with black pudding and apple and one with mushrooms. All were declared to be good. Mains were cod, and 2 steamed salt beef. The accompanying beetroot were excellent and we shared 2 lots of fries. All this was accompanied by a bottle of French country red, at a very reasonable price.
As is usually the case in Poland, the meals were hearty and good, but did not leave room for a dessert for one of us. Two shared a chocolate tart, which disappeared quickly, so must have been OK.
My only complaint about the Baltic is the noise level, with high ceilings and hard surfaces a full restaurant can make conversations for us elderly folk a mite tricky, but we managed. After supper we retired to the much quieter bar area for a few drinks and an extended chat.
We must like the place as we are back again in late November.
Really enjoyed our meal. Excellent selection of drinks and delicious food. Look forward to going again
Delicious food and friendly service. Would certainly recommend.
Great food, great service, great vodka. One of my favourite places to go.
Beef is not good in beef tartar
All dishes are very average
we always enjoy eating at the Baltic and at Ognisko but were very suprised that the resturant was empty on a Friday lunch time - we were there for nearly 2 hours as it was very pleasant but there were only two other diners in a large space.
Having said that our waiter was delightful and very professional and the food as always delicious.
Baltic is a regular haunt for me. The standard is uniformly high, with excellent but unobtrusive service, an interesting menu and high quality food. I eat there every few months, always look forward to it, and happily recommend it to others.
Unfortunately the main portion of rosti my husband ordered was small and had a rubber like texture.
I do not know what oil the fishcakes were cooked in but it had a unpleasant after taste
We love the friendly relaxed atmosphere and the Baltic style cooking (especially the black sausage). The staff are exceptional. Location perfect across the road from Southwark tube.
Never tried Polish food before but I loved it! Fantastic space to dine in, food was tasty and the customer service was amazing!
Excellent house infused vodkas and home made pierogi.
Really enjoyed the dinner menu. A good range of north European dishes that were tasty and well presented. We enjoyed cocktails before eating and had a great evening. Service was helpful and attentive. It was our first visit but we will certainly return.
Delicious food and a bit different from the norm. Our waiter was fantastically friendly and helpful. We were a largish group of chatty women having an extended catch-up. When they needed the table back to prepare for evening service, we were deftly transferred to a table in the bar area. It’s a big space and felt a tiny bit chilly but that’s a minor quibble.
Great location went prior to performance at The Old Victoria Theatre. Great food and wonderful happy friendly staff and service
The food and service were excellent. Wine good so thank you.
Had a great evening with 7 friends. Enjoyed a drink in the bar area first and then went to our table. Staff were relaxed over timing which was good.
I'd always wanted to visit Baltic and I'm delighted to report it was worth the wait. If you are a fan of the savoury foods of Eastern Europe, you will be in raptures over their pickles and vodkas. Horseradish vodka! The perfect complement to herring blinis. There's a mouthwatering choice of dishes to choose from here, covering regions that include Georgia and Poland, as well as the cuisines of places like Estonia and Finland - noted for their use of dill and sour cream. Heavenly food that's fresh and so clean! All served by highly efficient staff who don't hover or fawn over you. Lovely airy dining room designed to perfection. I will definitely be returning.
Lovely food well served. Only complaint is that the room can get a bit noisy.
Excellent food and service and one of the best Dry Martinis in London.
It was as nearly everywhere in London a nice experience. Food was tasty and service helpful.
But also noisy as in many restaurants in Öondon
Absolutely incredible. Beautiful setting, friendly and attentive service, delicious food (particularly the dumplings). We will return.
We are a big fan of Ognisko and Baltic is just as good. Our guests from the Singapore really enjoyed the food. Excellent as it was something new to them.
Such a great find! Really super food and service, with an excellent pre-theatre set menu.
We always enjoy the Baltic and will certainly return in the future. Their vodka martini is one of the best in the city.
I have visited the Baltic a number of times and have really enjoyed the experience. My favourite dish is the roast cod, but it comes with a carrot purée and I hate carrots. So I asked for this to be swapped with something that didn’t contain carrots. I have done this successfully in the past. However when my main course arrived, it contained the carrot purée?
It’s not rocket science.
I was with as friend and didn’t want to make a fuss, although I was furious and ultimately paid a lot for a piece of cod which is the only thing I ate.
The dishes remain true to their roots - the black pudding with apples was particularly tasty, and reminded me of my grandmother's cooking. The fish was OK but nothing special; in a way the Hungarian spiced vegetables could have been given greater prominence with another protein. Same for the chocolate tart (I was expecting something closer to Sachertorte. Sour cherries would improve it immensely). Very good, but not outstanding. For that, it would need to be more radically Eastern European, or more radical in its flavour combination.
Lovely food although service was little bit surly on this occassion. Good size portions and tasty.
Great ambience, authentic tasting food, service was good too. The only criticism was the small number of Baltic or Eastern European wines on the menu (none by the glass, few by the bottle). Overall happy to recommend!
Great selection of vodkas and cocktails. Food was excellent and the staff were attentive and helpful.
What a gem. Baltic has a lot of style, which I can find off-putting because it might suggest a lack of substance - not in this case. The food has been consistently good on our several visits (it may even be improving), and it works all the way down the menu. On this occasion, we were next to a celebratory table and asked to move to a quieter one: the staff were swift to help, and gracious with it. One of those places that makes you glad you live in London.
