What Insiders Are Saying
The incredible People Watching available at Balthazar makes scrunching into a tiny table and overpaying for brunch totally worth it. Say whatever you want about this place, you can’t take away the fact that the kitchen gets it done.
As always, food and service were outstanding, especially our server Booker!
AN EXCELLENT RESTAURANT WITH GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE ( MY WAITER DESERVES A SPECIAL MENTION) BUT PERSONALLY BETWEEN 8 AND 9:30 I FOUND IT ALL TOO NOISY. I WAS SEATED AT A BACK BANQUETTE AND EVEN THEN I SIMPLY FOUND IT FAR TO 'ENERGETIC'. IF THAT'S WHAT YOU LIKE, IT'S 100%. IF NOT, GO EARLY.
The biggest disappointment..expected so much more from this place.Food was horrible, this place needs major improvements and renovations.Sooo Overrated.
Vacation. Good food
Fantastic food and atmosphere!
I use oxygen, and we were placed in the back corner of the restaurant by two whispering girls, even though I had made a reservation the previous day, and there were only a dozen or so people present. Gave a very bad impression with girls acting like they were in the high school lunch room doing the seating.
We Love to visit Balthazar when we visit soho... it is special!
Omg the best restaurant I’ve been to for the first time! I definitely recommend and will be coming back again. The food is absolutely amazing 😍
AMAZING!! Great food, great place, excellent service!!
Felt like I was in Paris — awesome food, ambience, and service! Would go back in a heartbeat.
Our favorite restaurant in Soho and one of top 5 in whole Manhattan. Anytime we visit NY, we make sure to dine here. Our guests are always impressed, with service, excellent high quality food and selection of wine. Atmosphere is adult, but fun and elegant. We are already now looking forward our next visit.
From the moment we sat down, we were promptly greeted by our server and drink order along with water preference were immediately taken. Bread was brought out, which was absolutely delicious. Our server was well versed with the menu, and made great recommendations. From the oysters, salad, steak fritte, to the profiteroles for deser...all were a delight. Was a nice experience and glad we chose the restaurant while in soho for the weekend.
Dining at Balthazar is like a mini trip to Paris. The restaurant is beautiful, the ambience is authentic, exciting and lively, and the food is delicious. The classic French dishes are the best, and the desserts are heavenly.
a New York staple, never dissapoints. a good meal does not have to break the bank, all dishes are yummy.
I am a big Balthazar fan from way back. They have everything figured out. It is the food I want to eat, consistently prepared well, and thoughtful attention to details (the butter is room temperature, an extra bottle of water is left at the table). They understand hospitality - from checking in at the host station, to servers, bussers, and a manager who is continuously walking the room. I have been enjoying Balthazar since college (and also loved Schiller's!) . Now I come with my teenage son and husband. One day I hope to bring my grandchildren. Keep it up and please stick around.
Dined there many times before for dinner though hadn't been in years. My date enjoyed her duck, but my steak (which I've had in the past) was fatty and tough and have had much better at lower-priced establishments. The escargot was also a bit more rubbery than usual as well. Even the desert was a bit dry. Honestly felt as if I was just given older food. I understand it was a busy Saturday night but the waiter was also barely attentive (which I figured out at the end of my meal was probably because we were his last tables of the night as a new one was introduced right before I requested our bill). Perhaps it was just an off night, and I'll usually give an establishment an "off" night, but I'm definitely thinking it may be a while at best as the whole experience I would've expected for a third of the price.
The best service I have experienced. The servers and manager were amazing.
Absolutely amazing as always! ❤️From the moment you walk in the doors til the moment you leave, everything is wonderful, from the service, to the drinks to the food and dessert’
Our 2nd visit in 3 months, never disappoints!! Food, service, EXCELLENT👏🏻👏🏻 what impressed us most was our server from 3 months ago remembered us and even came to our table to say HI!!! We’ve been to many restaurants and have returned as well, but we hardly got that SWEET reception!!! We are already planning for our next visit.
Muy ruidoso, las mesas demasiado juntas y los vinos eran demasiado caros. Además no tiene guardarropía.
An excellent dining at a totally french atmosphere.
The service and food here are exquisite. But if you are looking for a quiet chic little French Cafe, this is not it. It is a great New York tradition and well worth a visit. But just know in advance it is very crowded and loud.
Terrible! Very overpriced. Most unimpressed I have been after a meal in a long time.
Food is no good anymore
Service is really bad
Great breakfast venue. Reasonably expensive but very good nevertheless.
Brunch with friends
Delicious food and wine, from first to last, with friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive service. Ambiance is indeed "energetic" at this lower French Cafe-themed Manhattan establishment where tourists, locals, and Wall Street types can mix naturally as human beings enjoying the NYC experience to the fullest. If you generally dine out on a budget, Balthazar is a bit of a splurge, but as such, well worth it.
Balthazar is Balthazar always crowded always noisy BUT it’s special and the food is always delicious. On the surface ...It really hasn’t changed much over the years but the quality has gone down and the cost has gone up. But that’s NYC.
We had lunch at noon.
A next time we will make a later reservation .
The fans constantly blowing made this a quite chilly experience. As more diners arrived the meatre de kept trying to squeeze them in to a table next to us and they kept asking to move as there were lots of empty tables in the restaurant which was unsettling. The waitress was lovely the food was fine. We went for breakfast but will stick to American diners from now on.
I recommend Balthazar to all of my friends and their friends:)
I have been to Balthazars several times the last 5 years, when I was visiting NYC - it´s in many ways a legendary place, but the price range is simply much too high for "bistro-food".
Dinner with daughter who was in town. I’ve dined at Balthazar before and it was been good. This time, the mussels were uneven in freshness and some of the French fries over cooked. I consider this a one-off to a very good restaurant. Terrific staff.
As always perfect French bistro food, and the staff is always lovely and accommodating. Thank you
I have been coming to Balthazar for decades...it has always been outstanding with great service, good recommendations and stellar food. Be forewarned that it is often very busy and even if you reserve a table in advance, you may still end up waiting about 15 minutes or so. Other than this minor issue, our waiter was wonderful, the ambiance is great (although a tad noisy) and the selection great and portions perhaps too generous. Highly recommend.
After a meal here one can see how this place has stood the test of time; great restaurant with great service and delicious food.
Lindo ambiente mucho ruido mucha gente. Lo único es que las mesas estan muy apretadas. Felizmente ciudad cosmopolita todos hablando diferentes idiomas
Onion soup was really yummy ✨ also good service .
Food was good but not the best breakfast I have had but the service & staff were all fantastic, engaging, friendly & helpful. I will be back.
