What Insiders Are Saying
The incredible People Watching available at Balthazar makes scrunching into a tiny table and overpaying for brunch totally worth it. Say whatever you want about this place, you can’t take away the fact that the kitchen gets it done.
A New Yorker restaurant like no other
A nice touch of french but New York down dip
Tipical and charming ambience
Great staff from the time you walk I the door. Very good food and a vibrant restaurant. Will definitely go back when in town.
Was ok and expensive
My granddaughter and I have come most years to Balthazar’s in July to celebrate her birthday. We haven’t been for a few years.
The last time we came, there was no attendant in the Ladies room. It was SO messy!! Great this year to see an attendant back! Aside from that everything was wonderful, and such a lovely tradition!
Best place for breakfast in NYC. Super special place. We come every time we are here.
Loved it! Food & service were perfect!
Balthazar is always a solid choice for a great meal in Soho. The food was delicious and the service was good.
I would have preferred to have some more lunch type options on a Monday brunch menu. It was a bit of a surprise to me that there were no options until 12noon on a Monday. Otherwise it was amazing!
A must stop every time I am in New York. You can never go wrong with Steak and Fries at Balthazar. The service is impeccable and they are also attentive! Last night I had some escargot and I accidentally flicked garlic sauce on my dress. I used my napkin and dipped it my glass of water and tried to rub it off. Half a second later a woman helping out came with a glass of water and a cloth. That is just wonderful service and a testament to their attentiveness.
We've dined at Balthazar several times, and have always enjoyed the experience.
It’s hard to reconcile the delicious food with the completely disinterested service. Balthazar used to be extraordinary, now they’re just one of many.
It was okay...watery salad and little table space. Good waiter ... little else of note.
Fantastic food & service! Loved the atmosphere. We will definitely return the next time we are in New York.
We had brunch and it’s just an enjoyable place in Soho.
Overall the place is alright. I was disappointed considering it's one of the most well-known restaurants in the city. Given the reputation and price points of the food, I expected the meal to be amazing but it was okay at best. There are a lot of other restaurants I would recommend over this one. Definitely won't go back.
Good service and ambience. But noisy but lively. Pricey side.
Very good food. Remind them to put less wine in moule frites
Great time with friends. Service was fabulous. Moules Frites especially yummy.
Love visiting Balthazar every time I'm in the city!
Nice nice nice nice nice
Hair in our food; restaurant clearly double booked itself, so service was sub par compared to the usual. The manager took the dish with the cook’s hair off the bill, but it’s still disappointing, as we loved coming in often, but will most likely stop for a while.
We were thrilled with the quality of service and the entire experience at Balthazar. We can’t wait to go again.
Amazing service and food. Split the chicken with shrimp appetizer and 2 incredible desserts. Pricey but good for a special occasion, in this case celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday.
Reservamos por la celebración de un cumpleaños, sin embargo nunca llevaron el pastel ni vela ni nada
Been quite a few years since I had lunch here, and dinner here did not disappoint. It's great to see that it's still the lively and delicious spot. We arrived early on a Friday night but were warmly greeted and promptly seated. French onion soup was quoted as "best in the city" by 1 reviewer and although husband had it night before, he ordered it again! And it was fantastic! Wonderful broth and lots of cheese. Steak pouveiree with frittes were wonderful as was my branzino. wine list offers great selection. Peach tart finished off a fabulous dinner. Will happily return here.
I would recommend more out of nostalgia. Has become too expensive. $28 for a small plate of pasta isn’t “value for money”
Too noisy and the food is not bad but too expensive for the quality. The waiter was nice though
In NY on holiday
I loved this place! The food was excellent but our service was fantastic! She made our dining experience excellent. My daughter and I said we would dine here again everyday to have the service!
Muy buena, nos atendieron muy bien
Very noisy, short space at the table and short menu.
Great! Whenever in ny , go there
We loved the branzino
Food is always reliable. Delicious, but not earth shatteringly wonderful. But highly enjoyable with gracious waitstaff.
I had a lovely time at the bar
Loved every minute of this dining experience. Had to change our reservation three times and each time we made a change our request was handled with the utmost generosity and professionalism. Service was exceptional, and our meals were delicious. Hope to get back there on our next trip to NYC.
The worst service with waiters that have only arrogance to offer as they mess up every single order. We had friends visiting from outside the city and were appalled at the service level. Stay away. Only hype.
Too expensive for what you get - steak with French fries??!! Come on - I expected something more gourmet to go with the steak! Too noisy.
Way overpriced for below average food. Disappointed in an over-hyped tourist trap.
Top notch food and service. The whole chicken for two was amazing!
