About
A classic, a favorite, outstanding as always. This place is full of old charm and hip ambience where every dish is a hit, not to mention killer martinis!
I had a really great time here I was sat down fairly fast and the waitress was excellent in explaining us the menu and what's good. I loved the food here to it was on point of what I was expecting. I would recommend this place to anyone and my friends and family if I could give more stars here I would. Cant waitnto come back to the NY next time and come back here to eat. Thank you.
Comida espectacular, lugar super agradable y original, servicio de Mustapha excepcional 100% recomendable..
Food was very sub-par for the price. I however appreciate the outstanding service and beautiful atmosphere. It looked straight out of paris.
Our last meal out (3/13) before the freeze on eating out. Crowded but not as usual. Food okay, not up to Balthazar’s standards. Service the same: disappointing.
My biggest complaint was the food. As a first time diner to Balthazar. This restaurant was highly for its food. I found not to be worth the money. My wife’s onion soup was very salty and missing any depth in flavor. My salad nicoise was greens we’re not fresh and found components to be lumped together. The seared ahi tuna was cooked med rare the way I asked. The dressing tasted more of blended oil than anything else. My chicken paillard was to thin and dry the sauce had no seasoning or flavor. The frisée on my chicken was old, rubbery not cut properly. My wife had a burger that was bitter with char. Just because it was well done doesn’t mean it has to be burnt. The fries were soggy, under done and salty. We also had coffee and it tasted of the residue when the coffee is not cleaned properly. The waitress was very good and attentive The offering of freshly cracked pepper was great.
Had an early morning breakfast, a rare moment when this place is delightfully quiet if thats what you are looking for, great food, ambience, and service.
What a fun vibe! Incredible service! The duck special was wonderful. You can’t miss the steak frites!
My birthday celebration was simply perfect! We sat in a corner of the restaurant with a fabulous view of the room and received exemplary service!
It was hard to choose but I ordered the scrambled eggs in pastry. It was delicious.
The waiter got my order wrong. But he amended it quickly and professionally. Not only that. He packed the order and gave it to me free of charge. I didn’t care for the freebie but absolutely appreciated the gesture.
We just didn't enjoy our experience. Our wad extremely busy to the point that he forgot to put in part of order. When we reminded him of this, he said he forgot to enter it, then quickly moved on without any apology. The mussels were great, but it was so loud in the restaurant we just Wanted to leave and go someplace else for dessert and drinks.
Every bit worth the price. It's quite a relaxing atmosphere despite it's fame. Intimate.
Everything great
Balthazar has seen its best days. It is now a place full of tourists and uninteresing people, with a lot of noise. Success has these things...
Food is consistently amazing! Service is top notch.
The service was great. It did take us a while to get some water and order the food. The food overall was okay, nothing really stood out. Very loud
Wonderful food!
Anniversary.
Balthazar is a classic and an excellent representative of French culinary tradition in NYC.
It’s always worth it
Every time we come to NYC we book a table here
The food was incredible. Everything was delicious and made with intent. I can't wait to visit again.
The setting was a bit too crowded and packed but otherwise perfect!
My daughter & I ate a traditional French breakfast of waffles with fresh fruit and "eggs any way" which included eggs, bacon, toast (and more that I don't remember), and we both got the hot chocolate. Additionally, we got the tartine and a chocolate croissant to share. Everything was presented beautifully and was delicious. Service was great. I wish we had the time to eat here again during our trip.
Why can’t all restaurants be this good? Food is typical French bistro but top notch in every way. I don’t think you can a bad meal there no matter what you order. Service is outstanding and they are BUSY but somehow they get it all done and with a smile. And it’s cozy, sophisticated and fun. I can’t wait to return.
Always enjoy visiting Balthazar. Excellent combination of Franch/Parisian atmosphere and excellent cuisine. Our two couple friends and my husband and i had a wonderful evening together. Thank you.
Unfailingly excellent service
I was greeted warmly. The waitress was sweet and offered advice on menu as well as came around often enough. She was also apologetic when a drink ( espresso martini) was made very wrong and someone came over with 2 new fresh ones made to perfection. I ordered the Eggs benedict and my friend the steak and both dishes were lovely.
The only downfall * and I did not take away stars...that is a learning opportunity is the man who filled our water kept grabbing the bottle by the neck and top where the water pours from. That is a big no no.
Other than that everything else made up for it and I enjoyed my visit.
In any sense one of those fantastic restaurants that you would like to have around in your own town. I envy all New Yorkers for this magic place. We adore it every tine we are in NYC. No exception to the rule:-).
Favorite brunch restaurant in NYC. Quaint and cozy ambiance matched with always dependable excellent food and service make this our go-to restaurant for a memorable dining experience. Have been patronizing the NYC Balthazar for many years and have always had a great experience. Although it is always busy, one never feels rushed for a "table turn" like other NYC restaurants do. They allow you to enjoy your meal at a relaxing pace.
If you can get a reservation you will enjoy an epic dinning experience.
This was the best brunch my daughter and I have ever experienced! The food, the atmosphere, the energy... It was expensive, but we felt well worth the experience.
Excelente pero muy muy ruidoso
It's a fun restaurant with an energetic exciting feeling. The food is a bit overpriced for what it is, but it is very tasty and presented well. It also feels a bit like you are eating in Paris when you are in New York City.
Fun iconic place. You are paying for well executed steak, frites, and environment.
NYC Staple. Food could use a little more twist, but if someone is looking for a solid, straight forward meal, with a NYC vibe this is a very good option!
Terribly slow service, forgotten drinks, chasing down the check... at 9:30am, with a restaurant 2/3 full...
Our server Loraine was amazing!! She literally made our dining experience
Loud and energetic, a diverse crowd of locals and tourists on a busy but not packed early Thursday dinner. By 7:30, packed and VERY loud. Superb oysters: fresh and very cold, good mix of East and West coast available. Famously delicious and classic French onion soup. Earthy fresh snails in garlic parsley butter, pushed too deep in shells for extraction with two pronged “tuning” fork; toothpicks did the trick. Chairs not very comfortable; they’d like you out in 90 minutes so they can turn your table. Whole roast chicken quite pricey, well seasoned w green herbs under skin, moist, delish pan sauce, but skin not crisped. Steak tartare very fresh, a little boring. Skip the red shrimp risotto, which was more like a Hawaiian stir fry than a creamy risotto. Desserts were just ok, tasty but lacking delicacy, finesse. Go during off hours, stick to the classics!!
They could have made a little effort at plating the food. My petite steak was just that with some shoestring fries shoveled on the side
This was an amazing meal with amazing service to match. Classic French ambiance.
