Wonderful - thanks Balthazar!
Hi, we had a party of 6 and our seating was really crowded. This is my 3rd time to this great restaurant and of course the food is fantastic. Would not recommend for a romantic night out... noisy and tables very close together.
Terrific server. Excellent food. Only complain is that tables are very close together and clamor can be a little much. Definitely will go back though.
Brunch was fantastic. Great place to visit while in NYC.
The name itself is enough...so, yes no matter what I would certainly recommend to another friend.
My trip to Balthazar was everything I wanted and more. I was able to sip coffee out of a much (which is a dream come true for any coffee lover, like myself) while snacking on delicious French pastries. My avocado toast was phenomenal. The food was expensive, but worth it for the unique experience. I can't wait to enjoy brunch at Balthazar again, but it will need to be for a special occasion.
Overpriced and feels extremely touristy. Love the interior, but wish it was a little more low-key with better quality of food.
Fun, good bustling vibe, excellent service, very good classic french food
Everything was great until the very end when I genuinely thought service had been added to our bill, but as we were leaving an irate older waitress chased us outside and screamed about not leaving service charges. I tried to explain that it was a genuine mistake and showed her the receipt, but I had mistaken tax for tip, this didn’t help and she demanded a large tip, at least twice the tax amount, which I paid to save further embarrassment and to calm her down as we were in a public place, this is not how I expect employees of such a prestigious establishment to behave or handle a genuine error and it has left a bad taste in my mouth, a little manners and respect go a long way.
It was a fantastic dinner, with amazing deriving and food.
*Just* worth it for the price. I had really been looking forward to visiting Balthazar and was honestly a little underwhelmed. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. Our server was as attentive as he could be, and the busser/backwaiter helping him was really helpful. Lovely atmosphere, great wine selection.
Exellent Food and Service ! Price level adequate for the location
We had brunch and too expensive for what we got.
Bacon and muffin from egg benedict avarage.
Orange juice very bitter and not good taste.
Too touristy overall and poor quality food.
Varying degrees of good when it comes to the food. Steak tartare was excellent, steak au poivre and Niçoise salad were good, but not remarkable compared to others we’ve had. Snails were so difficult to extract, most were felt in the shell. The service was fine. Atmosphere was such a mixed bag of families, dates, tourists that it was a jumble (dining at 8-10 pm.) I expect it would be a hit or miss depending on the evening and who happens to be seated near you. Overall, probably best for a small to medium group with reasonable expectations about the experience.
Save your money - do not go!
Balthazar is nothing more than a tourist trap, joining other NYC establishments that hit fame/notoriety outside of NYC and now is not worth a local's time or money. The entire experience left both empty stomachs and wallets with undercooked/poorly prepared food at fine dining prices.
2 out of 3 meals - meats were undercooked...for Chicken, that's scary. When advised the sous-waiter (could not find waiter), he shrugged and didn't care.
Waiter was absent the entire meal. Tried to order more drinks before main course arrived, no waiter, tried through sous-waiter, never passed on the information.
Overall, the experience was massively disappointing and expensive. The Food / Service does NOT merit the costs - omit this NYC institution from your list of "must-sees" as its time has come and gone.
THE iconic French restaurant in SOHO with so much foot traffic, that it is a wonder how anyone gets a table without reserving through OpenTable. The food is phenomenally rich, arrives in a timely manner, and the wait staff is old-school professional. However the restuarant itself is quite packed with a lot of noise due to the all the hungry patrons. The menu is also compact so that customers are not overwhelmed by choices and the ingredients can remain fresh. Overall, i really enjoyed the eggs Norwegian (smoked salmon is amazing) and the escargot was not overly powered with garlic. I find the choice of bread at the start to be a bit bland even with butter (perhaps sea salt sprinkle will help).
Balthazar is a solid choice for any brunch or lunch occasion and is highly family friendly. The iconic bowl of coffee is also quite French and unique. Definitely will repeat in the near future!
Balthazar was an incredible experience and a must see when in New York
One of my fave NYC cool, chic, hip, grown up places- consistently good for 20 years- never a miss
Food was outstanding but the service is not as friendly as their sister restaurant, Pastis. Very expensive; I’d only consider dining here again on a special occasion and for the money, I’d rather dine in a quieter environment.
great food and service in a very nice atmosphere. excellent preparation and presentation of our meals. unique dishes.fantastic wine list. great selections of desserts.great pacing of the meal with no rushing at all and adequate breaks between courses. we never felt like we were being rushed out the door despite it being very busy.
Great food and atmosphere! Service is outstanding. French food and the pommes frites are amazing! Make sure you save room for dessert!
Lovely as always, the setting, atmosphere, the food and service
Excelente la comida y la atención . No es barato, pero vale la pena la experiencia
Fabulous experience! Perfect ambience, great food and a wonderful service. Couldn’t be better!
First day back in NYC for a while ... 20th wedding Anniversary so hitting some old haunts. Wonderful brunch, Great food, excellent service from “michael” . ... ! We will be back !
Quick and efficient breakfast
Accoglienza e servizio al top, abbiamo ordinato la carne che é arrivata bruciata anche se buona. Il prezzo non al livello di cosa si é mangiato
Old fashioned French bistro. Value for money.
The food was excellent. We shared the burger and eggs benedict. Drinks were crazy expensive. I would suggest skipping the booze here.
While our table was near a very pleasant window, it was also next to a drawer with utensils and close to one diner. It was in constant use and continually annoyed that diner. The service was a touch scarce and sometimes slightly gruff.
My husband and I frequent here because it is always exceptional, in every facet. We love it here and I highly recommend it. My choices this evening were the warm goat cheese tart, Coq au Vin, and the pavlova. Accompanied by an old fashion and finished with a tawny port. Delish!
Dinner was delicious and the service was excellent! Perfect for our belated Valentine dinner.
Heck and a half! The food was so good it sent a chill down my spine like the Xanax Is just hitting. I couldn’t believe how succulent a chicken thigh can be. If I was getting executed I’d get my last meal from Balthazar
Great lively place to go for dinner. Good food and the atmosphere is energetic. Our second time there and we have really enjoyed both our visits.
Always a must while visiting Ny. Congratulations!!
We were seated right away. Hostesses were very kind. We ordered fries that never arrived. Possible the waitstaff not super organized. But nice place nice people, lively crowd.
Fantastic food and service, great bread basket. Would definitely return!
Fun time celebrating a family birthday. Place was buzzing, food was solid (although a bit pricey), but service was a little slow.
Excellent service and the food was exceptional. It was a wonderful celebration evening!
