This was my first visit and I really loved it. We were 5 ladies and the service was excellent. Professional and friendly. I had the lobster spaghetti which I would highly recommend. I thought the wines were overpriced. We ate from the a la Carte menu but the set menu was very good and I would have selected this if in a tight budget. I can’t wait to visit again
Excellent food, especially garlic prawns as a starter. Also recommend the Duck Pie. Good portions and very tasty. Wine starts around £30 a bottle, so alcohol can be a bit on the expensive side. It is always busy and has a great atmosphere, but when full it can be hard to hear guests across the table. Service was excellent.
They need to change their napkins as all the fluff came off onto our clothes, and as we had dreed up for the occasion that was a shame.
Went to the Balthazar in NYC in November and really enjoyed it, so we thought we would try the one in London while we were there. It lived up to our expectations. Almost an exact duplicate of the NYC restaurant. Lively atmosphere, excellent service and great food.
Second visit to Balthazar, London. Met three friends from school-been up to 38 years since we’d met. Delicious food. My only criticism is that a £66 bottle of champagne wasn’t chilled enough to drink on service and the waiter’s “solution” was to put it in the ice bucket ☹️. Not a solution as had to wait 15 mins for a drink!
Everything was very good except the aircon was not working so that the restaurant was uncomfortably hot. I think some sort of allowance from the bill should have been made as a gesture
excellent evening for our friend's 70th.Food, service really good.Even though the air conditioning was not working, it didnt detract from a good evening.
Unfortunately really hot day and restaurant had aircon issues, it was very very hot in the restaurant!
However staff was wonderful and the food was delicious as always.
From beginning to end this restaurant has it down to a fine art , extremely professional staff , wonderful maitre de , we had mum in her wheelchair and the staff were so accommodating and helpful , the food was incredible , a wonderful experience, 10/10
Everything very good except the veal for the Wiener Schnitzel was a little bit chewy, unlike on my previous visit. Delicious rhubarb soufflé, good coffee, friendly staff. Very convenient location for Royal Opera House.
Excellent food and service, both sea food and meat based dishes are high quality.
Very noisy though.
Great food, amazing service and overall great place next to Covent Garden market.
Very nice place!
We came with our children. They enjoyed a lot the evening.
Good atmosphere that reminds the old French brasseries!
The food was very nice.
Went here for my girlfriend's Birthday, the staff were really friendly and accommodating as she has a few food allergies , would totally recommend and go here again
Perfect venue for our pre-theatre meal, the food was very good the service we had was five star, the waitress could not have any anymore to make our visit more pleasurable. This place will be coming a regular venue.
very nice place, very welcomed, Special place to be for a tourist as we were
it was difficult to hear my friend due to the tables being so close and the next door table had a very loud person shouting throughout our meal. Weekends are not good especially if the weather is great but to try the restaurant during the week. Service was very good.
Fantástico , siempre que voy a Londres reservamos y nos llevamos un gran recuerdo! Brunch genial !!! Totalmente recomendado
Lovely atmosphere and food. Great service with plenty of staff around who all acknowledged you in passing. Went for brunch and had eggs benedict. It was cooked to perfection and we both enjoyed it. A bit pricey but worth it.
There were a few hiccups and my poached eggs were a little underdone (runny white) but the rest of the food was delicious, the service was excellent and they apologised for the mistakes (brought the wrong dish) and I'd go back. The surprise meringue for my sister's birthday was a beautiful touch.
Balthazar has a loud buzzing atmosphere, not enjoyable for me personally but could be appealing to some. The food was good but not value for money and nothing particularly stood out. The service was very good. The decor is exactly the same as the NY establishment so if you’ve been there and enjoyed it for the interiors this won’t disappoint.
Lovely vibe but the tables are too close together and it is overpriced.
Beautiful setting - just like an authentic Parisien brassiere but unfortunately the food didn’t match up to the decor. It was ok but definitely lacklustre.....
Whilst adequate, the food had the sense of not having had much loving care applied to it. Looked ok, but bit bland, bit mass-produced, nothing special. And it was quite expensive. Staff were excellent, though.
Just brilliant ! Delicious meal - best fish pie in a long time - so welcoming and outstanding service - it’s going to be our regular haunt for a pre theatre /opera /ballet dinner !
Buzzy ambience, nice atmosphere , good service and great food. Service is slightly more attentive at the central tables. Serving staff is confident and natural with good sense of humour. I would highly recommend to try the Duck Confit from the lunch menu and the Rhubarb Souffle with vanilla anglaise which was just incredible and unique! Finally, I found most of the brunch items overpriced compared to the lunch menu but definitely tasty.
Three of our party of five for brunch were early and our table wasn't ready so we went to the bar for a drink. Bar staff were great by the way. Whilst at the bar we saw another of our party arrive and she was shown directly to the table. We waited expecting someone to come and get us, they didn't. Then we asked a passing staff member about our table. She looked completely exasperated with us and said she would find out but went off to do something else first. She did not come back so we went to find the table ourselves. No one offered to take our coats. The Eggs Florentine didn't have enough Hollandaise for our taste but we all agreed our food was okay but nothing special. The acoustics were terrible. We sat at a round table and only the person sitting immediate next to you could be heard. I and another guest had been wanting to try Balthazar for some time, being very fond of the one in New York, so our expectations were high; we were very disappointed and all agreed it wasn't really worth another visit.
Having been to Balthazar in New York at Christmas we had high expectations of the London branch, and we were not disappointed. The food and service were impeccable, and they finished the meal with a special "cafe gourmand" because the booking was for a special occasion. Balthazar is a wonderful restaurant, everything is absolutely on point. I would happily go again and highly recommend it.
I had an amazing time it was everything I was hoping it would be, I had an afternoon tea with my friends for my 50th Birthday, I will definitely be back highly recommended thank you !!
Visited for lunch with a friend. No air-con and it was stifling hot. We both ordered steak; mine was fine but my friends was tough and chewy so she left the rest as it was off-putting. Waiter apologised and we were told the steak would not be charged for but when we received the bill it was charged for. I wanted to inform the manager but there were two birthday groups either side of our table and my friend didn’t want to ruin the ambience for the birthday groups by raising a complaint. It was actually my friends birthday too so the tough steak was particularly disappointing.
Amazing service and atmosphere, really good food and fast service
Great Saturday brunch with friends. Definitely get the burrata. 😊
Great bistro atmosphere, service patchy but pleasant staff. Excellent beef stroganoff and salmon.
Food was great but service was so slow on a weekday lunch time which is surprising considering the number of people who were there for a business lunch. At almost every step we had to call our waiter rather than then coming to us. Not ideal if you have a limited amount of time but apart from that, great place!
Service was not welcoming, just a bit cool for a meal costing nearly £200. Nothing specifically wrong, just not very special. Good regular top up of tap water given. Provided a candle for birthday which we appreciated. We were glad we hadn’t dressed up as this was casual, but expensive dining. We don’t expect to return or recommend. Sorry.
Tourist driven. This was a real disappointment unfortunately. When booking I was asked if it was for an occasion & it was noted as an anniversary. When we arrived the host wasn't particularly welcoming & we seemed a formality instead of hospitality. Not mention throughout was made of the occasion we booked for. The service was slow at times with wait times of over 10 minutes to receive our drinks. the table next to us with the same waiter that was seated after us received their drinks & bread before us & the waiter again like the host was seemed as if we were just another table of pre-theatre dinning. The food was fine but nothing to shout about. overall I was expecting more quality on the service side for what you pay. The Ivy market grill is priced similarly yet the experiences are extremely far apart. I don't by any means expect preferential service for an occasion but I also don't expect to have sub standard service with even a smile from any of the staff & plates being dropped every 20 minutes
Reasonable food. Good service. Overpriced wine list
Usually a splendid place for a meal at any time of the day however on our latest visit the service was sadly very erratic and brusque. It was in Easter week and busy but this is no excuse for poor service in such a usually excellent establishment. We will return and hope things have improved.
I booked this for a business meeting but the service really was very poor and actually made it very difficult to conduct the meeting. We waited around 30 minutes to order and then after we'd finished it took quite a while for the food to be cleared up. No one asked if we wanted coffee so I had to seek that out and we were served coffee with plates still on the table. I had to ask for the bill three times to get it and then when we arrived two more times to actually pay it. This has completely put me off for next time
Great atmosphere , lovely staff...perfect for pre theatre. Been before & will certainly go again!
What a find! Met a friend here for breakfast. Great ambience, service and food-quality. Lovely building and décor. Easily 5 stars.
